I'm sure this has been done before, but would those who are currently in an EM residency or who have matched to an EM residency be willing respond to a poll of Step 1 scores?

I'm getting nervous about my {slightly} sub-mean score. I know that I can pull it up with a good Step 2; but I am wondering what the reality is as far as the score of those who have sucessfully gotten to where I want to go!

Thanks for your help!

I didn't take the USMLE, just the DO version (COMLEX):

Step I: 607 (93%ile)
Step II: 699 (99%ile)

I didn't do step 2 in time for my ERAS.

To the OP... a Step I score close to the mean is fine for EM.

My class had tons of people going for EM, and the Step scores ranged from below 200 to the upper 220s (just from the several people whom I spoke with during my OR elective)... They ALL matched. One guy was a very average student who did not break 200 and he matched at one of the more competitive UC schools.

Good luck!

Good board scores help alot, but are not the "be all - end all" for EM. EM programs put alot of weight on LOR's, confidence, and personality of candidates, b/c the field requires great abilities to interact with every other speciality and personality type. If your scores are lower, you will be SOL for certain programs b/c like it or not they screen using board scores. You can still match however, just make an intellegent list and get the inside scoop on who is competetive and who is less.

FYI- never base this decision on who is most competetive for Medicine and Surgery as there is sometimes an inverse relationship.

I was cleaning out my filing cabinet the other day and guess what I found?

Anyway step2 and 3 >230. I couldn't find step 1 but my recollection is that I did better on step 1
