depending on whether your program requires taking step 3 by a certain time period, you could use this money to register for Step 3 and for UsmleWorld. Should get you close to the $1000.

What year are you? If you're going to be studying for boards soon, MKSAP (CD version) and the Medstudy text were very helpful. Otherwise, you could blow some of the money on memberships to professional societies.

I'll defer to the Cards people on good cards books. If you' interested in Pulm/Crit Care, Murrary and Nadel and the Tobin vent books are classics. The Hall Crit care book was pretty good as well.

The ICU book by marino - can be had for 68 dollars on amazon

I would hold off on fellowship books until you land it. It would be disappointing to change your mind and end up in GI with a shelf full of Cardio books wouldn't it?

I suppose you could always get Harrison's or Cecils as a hardcore text (but if you're not going to read it, it would just be a waste). MKSAP series are crazy expensive but you should ask upper levels about MKSAP vs Medstudy as I have no clue which would be better. I've heard good things about both. How about stethescopes or other things you could use on the floors? (though I can't imagine it would rack up to your allowable expenditure)

If you're involved in research early on, you could always use this money for traveling expenses if you present?? maybe?

another thing to consider is a conference. See if they'll let you spent the money to fly out and have a couple of days at a conference you'd enjoy.

but conferences is good option in 2nd year and 3 rd year i think...
they wnt allow in first year...also 2nd year they wl use some of the money for license application...

medstudy and mksap 15 is good option..

is washington manual for cards for electives good option?

how about tarascon critical care book?is it good?

any other pocket book which i missed or any good board review books

The latest version of MKSAP comes out it a few months. The next version won't come out for 3 more years, so if you buy it now, this version will still be current when you take boards. I was going to recommend one of those electronic stethoscopes, but it looks like you can't do that. The ICU book is definitely a good one. I also liked CMDT. You can also use the money for journal subscriptions.

Do you have access to UpToDate? That's where I'd spend the money. If you don't get $ for PDAs, what about PDA software? Epocrates Essentials is a great place to start.
