View Full Version : DAT scores/thoughts
WMich 06-24-2009, 07:40 AM I must mention that I am applying to matriculate after 3 years of undergrad, however I will have over 100 credit hours by this time. My overall GPA is 3.97 and science GPA is 4.0. I submitted my AADSAS application hours after the site opened on June 1st. I am curious about the chances of getting in to some top schools with my scores and gpa (and a "complete" application). I have applied to 18 schools (3rd years are so uncommon that I wanted to be safe). Here are my DAT score from 6/23/09:
PA: 20
RC: 23
QR: 16
BIO: 20
GC: 23
OC: 26
TS: 22
AA: 22
The only score that I am not happy with (obviously) is the QR, I think I fatigued towards the end and just didnt know some of the equations I needed. I would think that an applicant with a degree would be a "sure in" (if that even exists) but applying as a 3rd year throws a serious curveball. I am interested to hear some thought of others.
192LT192 06-24-2009, 07:47 AM these scores are beautiful. you are so in with your gpa/dat/early application. good job!!!!

Howard and Meharry might be problems. The religious school too if your not religious. Harvard if you didnt do research, and then some others without volunteering. Tufts if theres no shadowing. Baylor and SA if you arent from TX.
Otherwise, you're a shoe in in about 20 of the other 40 or so schools. Unless, of course, you were convicted for manslaughter or soemthing in the recent pass. Too many variables.
Stats alone, you're golden at most of the schools.
sfrice80 06-24-2009, 08:17 AM ha I think you're okay......again unless you've been convicted for manslaughter!
WMich 06-24-2009, 08:20 AM Neurobiology research, 200 + hours shadowing, 100 + hours volunteering (I have been completely dedicated to getting in after three years since day 1 of freshman year, so I have tried to bulk up my application in the "non-cognitive" areas as well) Thanks for the responses!
192LT192 06-24-2009, 08:41 AM youre like superman. who are you that you had all this time to do EVERYTHING? wow, youre going to get in! :)
vlct0ria 06-24-2009, 09:07 AM You know, all it takes is a quick forum browse to realize QR is not that important (a lot of people don't do well), your DAT scores are great, your EC's are great, and your GPA is amazing...what's the problem again??

He won't have a B.S. by matriculation.
failedmagician 06-24-2009, 09:19 AM Great job! Hopefully not having a bachelors won't hinder your app too much.

Guess I missed that...I saw the 3 years thing and I thought he said he was applying after 3 years of undergrad, which is what a lot of people do...I didn't realize he said "matriculate" instead! Well, regardless...to the OP- I think you have a pretty decent shot even without the degree.

Agreed, pretty decent shot of getting in somewhere. Maybe not your first choice. Wait a year and then it will likely be your first choice. That's not to say it won't happen though, we don't really know. Good luck!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about Texas schools unless you are from TX. They only accept about a dozen people from out of state (http://www.utsystem.edu/tmdsas/Final%20Statistics%20Report-%20EY08%20-%20Dental.pdf). Although your stats are outstanding, I still think it might be difficult to get into a TX school without a BS. I know you will get in somewhere though!!
nixon13 06-24-2009, 10:54 AM Kevin, you're such a disease.

Your scores are great (Obviously...since they're just like mine:laugh:). Congrats!!
Most dental schools say BS is not a requirement but they strongly encourage their applicants to get their degree. So, hmmm, hard to tell.
But since you have a good GPA, DAT, and an early application, I don't think lack of degree would affect you much. Nevertheless, you've done your best, and from this point on it's out of your control. Just sit back and see what happens!
Good Luck:thumbup:

If I were you, I get a Bachelor degree before enrolling. What will happen to you, if you cannot complete dental school (I wish it will not the case in future)? You will not have a degree, even if you apply for a different job. Nowadays,a bachelor degree does not worth that much, but it is still better than nothing! The choice is totally up to you (above is my opinion).

I don't see why he should have a problem completing Dental school, and if he does he could finish his bs then.
A BS is biology is pretty useless anyway.

Not everyone who gets into dental school comes out with a DDS degree. Ever heard of dropouts?
Although I don't think anyone should enter this field with the thought that he/she might some day get dropped out, but stuff happens!
brightsmiles9 06-24-2009, 09:07 PM Congrats!! and Great job!! Can you do a breakdown of what you used to prepare?
