Hey everyone,
I just took the DAT this morning and here are the scores.

PA 21
QR 16 ACK!
RC 20
BIO 20
GC 20
OC 18
TS 19
AA 19

This was my first time taking it and overall I am satisfied. I studied for about a month while working twice a week. I don't think I'll retake it unless I don't make it this cycle. I do have a pretty low calculated GPA (about 3.1) so I don't know how it'll all work out.

Quick thoughts
PA: I used crack dat pat to prepare for this section. I would say that the difficulty was about the same as crack dat pat. Angles were pretty hard. Cubes were easier than the program (no illusions).

QR: I did not prepare for this section and it really shows. Had about 2 trig questions and maybe about 3-4 probability questions. I would suggest to everyone to take more time to prepare for this section if you feel confident about your science. Don't think you'll do well on this section just because you scored well on kaplan.

RC: This was a surprise. English is my second language so I wasn't expecting much. I didn't prepare for this section either. I didn't know how to. And I'm not a reader at all. So for those of you who are worried about this section, there is no need to worry.. unless English is your second language:laugh:. You will have plenty time to read through all passages, no need to search and destroy from the get go. Oh btw I had the PIANO passage :o.

Bio: Bio section was indeed random. You pretty much have to know everything. Had a very few questions regarding 5 kingdoms and they were pretty obvious (Wish I had spent more time on something else). I used Destroyer, Barron's AP Biology, Cliffs AP Biology, Kaplan BB. I personally like Barron's over Cliffs. I thought it was easier to read.

GC: Definitely easier than DAT destroyer. I only went through destroyer about twice. Watched some tutorial videos (it's floating around somewhere if someone needs them) but you're going to need more than just those videos and destroyer b/c while destroyer does prepare you well for the calculations but not much on concepts.

OC: I thought I was going to do better on organic. But damn, I had about 5 NMR, IR type of problems which I didn't prepare for. So if you are not good at those, I suggest you start now.

I'll update this more later. Gonna take a nap. I will try to answer any specific questions through here or PM. Thanks everyone and good luck.

I found this site to be useful for biology review. (I found it last night LOL)

Ah I wish I was done too! What were your topscore scores? Or any other practice scores? What was so random about Bio?

Were the NMR/IR problems hard? Or did you just forget the basics?

good job man. I guess those NMR/IR questions hurt you in the end =/.

I'm hearing DAT angles are comparable to CDP. How were the keyholes and TFE, because most of them are just so obvious on CDP.

And whats with all these people getting the piano passage lately? What happened to the ethics passage... i think its due :(

Good job...I don't think you'll need to do a re-take for now. Just apply smart and see how it goes.

I know I take mine in a week. I really don't want Piano! English is my first language, but I have to admit, I just suck at reading to comprehend.

same here. July 1st right?
I think we're due for a good ethics passage ;) lol.

Hey, tdkyun, also just curious if you were scoring similar on cdp. Thanks

Only knowledge I had about NMR/IR was 1700 cm-1 meant carbonyl and the broad -OH peak around 3000. Also I knew a little bit about HNMR peaks (singlet, doublet, etc). So I really don't know if they were basics but I do remember some of the answer choices had methoxy groups and esters. But I don't think they were that hard.
I used topscore and achiever. I didn't like achiever. It had too many specific questions in my opinion. I think topscore was a bit easier than the actual dat but my scores were about the same I think (but never took it serious though).
Good luck. Post more questions if you got any.

DAT angles are just as hard as CDP. I never really timed myself on CDP, I just did a set of problems or two before I went to bed. But I had about 15 minutes left on the clock when I got through with all of the questions. If you can do angles on CDP under time pressure, you should be okay. Keyholes were a bit easier than CDP (should save you some time for others). TFE was about the same but with fewer obvious choices you can eliminate. Cubes were really easy. No illusions, just straight forward counting.

I'd say about 22-24 on cdp (didn't really do full tests, but I think it'll help)
Good luck!

first of all congrats, second how well do u think destroyer prepared u for orgo and chem
and how did u learn concepts

If you're short on time I suggest you stick with destroyer (I wouldn't recommend kaplan bb if you got one). If you aren't pressed for time try these videos. http://www.coursesaver.com/showthread.php?t=39

He is pretty good at explaining concepts but do use textbooks to fully understand concepts (which I didn't do). I highly suggest that you do the problems at end of each chapter, it'll help you remember better.
I had a question about photons, also something about energy (is it proportional to wavelength or frequency? something like that).
I think destroyer is pretty good for organic but not enough on gen chem concepts.
Good luck!

That is not bad. You did pretty decent especially if English is your second language. You did G Chem pretty good.

So is destroyer's ochem very similar to the DAT ochem portion? There just seems to be alot of nomenclature in it that it messes me up a lot. And weird questions like stuff about wavelength

Hey, I just looked at the problems. Format wise, this is it. It was very similar. And you can expect to see a few problems like 44,45,46 on gen chem where it doesn't require you to solve the problem but you have know how to setup to solve them.

Maybe one nomenclature question but very easy (alcohol on an alkane). DAT was easier than destroyer for sure. A few ranking acid questions, maybe one or two.

Have you been using the old destroyer or the new? The new has a few more spectro problems; it might have saved your griddle on those NMRs.

Congrats/sorry on the grades. LOL, I don't know what to say - if you're aiming for Stonybrook you have my sympathy, if you're aiming for pretty much anything else then you have my congratulations on a job well done.

barron's ap bio, cliffs ap bio, destroyer.

Can anyone suggest some schools to apply with my stats that I might have a chance of getting in? Of the schools I have applied to I think I might have a chance in baylor, UMKC, UT memphis (they all accept AR resident)
