View Full Version : MSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010
Spartan4210 03-10-2010, 12:40 PM Ok i was just notified about being deficient in 6 behavior sci requirement, I took honors classes at wayne state that def fit the profile of these classes. they were about the movement of people out the city of detroit due to race.A pretty basic sociology concept. I took three classes all of which i wrote down as behavior science. I emailed them back and still have not gotten a response, has anyone had an issue like this? Will they accept them if they look at the course description? Do i need to register for spring? I am kinda freaking out so any ideas on what they might do?

Relax a little bit. You can try calling them and asking if anyone is available to talk to about it. I am sure you will be fine once they see the course descriptions... What was the title of the courses?

Definitely call them. Also make sure they were from the college of social sciences at Wayne State and not integrated courses. Maybe they just over looked them.

I would call and you may need to take classes. They are actually quite picky. I knew someone who had their classes listed on for behavioral science and they were very picky about the course description. Both of their descriptions sounded like behavioral science, but MSUCOM did not accept them.
Cheshyre 03-14-2010, 10:50 PM Hey everybody. I just got placed on the guaranteed for 2011 waitlist, which, frankly, was a total shock to me. I hadn't heard anything from MSUCOM in forever and had pretty much given up.
Before I ask my questions, some stats for those still waiting (I think this is what I put on the application.. it's been a few months, so I might just be making some of these numbers up):
~3.17 sgpa, 3.38 cgpa from UMich, 35S, major in Cell/Molec. Bio. Something like ~600 hrs of hospital volunteer work in high school, only ~50 hours volunteering in college (at a soup kitchen), 160 hours shadowing in primary care, 80 hours hands-on clinical experience as an EMT student, ~5000 hours research, in state. Lots of hobbies - strong background in music, participated with musical groups in college, road cycling, cooking. A couple of leadership positions. Complete 12/2009 or 1/2010. I know - my stats are horribly lopsided.
Anyway - I hear from all directions that MSUCOM is supposed to be an amazing school with one of the best, if not the best, reputations in osteopathic medical education. However, I never see that statement backed up with any sort of explanation. I've been scouring the MSUCOM website but can't find much information that sets it apart from the other schools I'm interested in. Actually, by board exam rates and matriculation stats alone, MSUCOM is virtually identical to UMDNJ (tuition is much, much nicer though). Both UMDNJ and MSUCOM have preceptorships, which I'm interested in, and they both use a systems-based curriculum. The only difference I can see is that you don't have to travel much for UMDNJ's 3rd/4th year (which is good or bad, depending on what you want) and that MSUCOM has a schedule without a long period of break time (again, good or bad depending on your values). I'll reserve judgment on the facilities until I've actually visited the MSUCOM campus.

I would guess you were wait listed because you were complete fairly late. Once the class is full people are placed on one of the two waitlists.
The East Lansing site has no "oooo shiny" factor because it is in an old dorm. However, there are plenty of good facilities, labs, etc in it.
Cheshyre 03-15-2010, 06:55 AM Everglide -- Yeah, I talked to admissions and they said that after a certain point, to ensure that they don't overadmit, everybody goes on the waitlist regardless of their 'stellarness.'

sorry, but I didnt get whay you mean by everyone goes on the waitlist regardless of their stellarness? everyone? and then how do they separate waitlist from guranteed waitlist if they told you regardless of stellarness people are waitlisted? thanks for any further explanation, you talked to admission so you may know

After a certain point, nobody gets accepted without first going to one of the waitlists. If you want to talk about those, then yes, the strength of their application matters in determining which one they get placed into... I think.

thanks for the reply. it makes more sense now. In a way MSUCOM is trying to do both at once fill class as soon as possibile with qualified candidates, and have another list of qualified candidates in the line if someone drops. I heard that they will still accept people from the waitlist untill june.

One thing that I don't think anyone mentioned is MSUCOM receives the most grant money for research out of any of the other osteopathic schools... not that it directly applies to it's prestige.. but that is how MD programs are usually ranked.
The facilities at the new campuses at DMC and MUC are very nice, after all they are brand new.

Mhm. It's just interesting to me that MSUCOM has a sterling reputation, but nobody ever says why that is. I'll be visiting on the 26th to see the campus for myself.

oakland 03-16-2010, 09:13 AM Did everyone apply for scholarships? If so has MSU contacted you regarding them yet? i unfortunately missed the deadline Jan 15th to apply. I wonder how much each student can get in scholarships each year

You can email her to set up a tour at each of the campuses if you like.
I toured both of them and am going to the DMC site next year.

I did, I applied to two... and got rejected from both :(

I was under the impression most if not all of those scholarships were for current students anyway... maybe I'm incorrect on that.
jphwki82 03-16-2010, 12:06 PM Most of the scholarships were for current first year students, and or current students. There are a few scholarships that are for incoming students. You just need to read the criteria, and check those that apply to you. Oh, the OOS scholarship is due by september. The other two scholarships for incoming MS-1 were due on March 1st. So I am not sure if there is any scholarships left to apply for.
fitz0809 03-16-2010, 12:33 PM I was under the impression most if not all of those scholarships were for current students anyway... maybe I'm incorrect on that.
I was under this impression as well...
Are many people applying for outside/ independent scholarships?
p1acebo 03-16-2010, 01:29 PM I was under this impression as well...
Are many people applying for outside/ independent scholarships?
Many of them are for people who are already in med school... but the ones that are for "incoming first years" are all past their due dates. So I wouldn't worry about scholarships anymore if you were looking into them. Look into them next year.
I did, I applied to two... and got rejected from both :(
So far I think I've been turned down by 3 and probably many more to come. I do hope I get the out of state one at least.
donblackbelt300 03-17-2010, 12:05 PM Hello-
Could somebody shed some light for me? I believe the Macomb area looks really nice, even nicer than the Lansing area. There are many hospitals there so you are pretty guaranteed (I think) that you wouldn’t have to move for your 3rd and 4th years, especially nice if you have families or want to be settled. Also, there are pretty nice houses if you want to buy one compared to EL
It seems to me that most people jump for the East Lansing site first and then Detroit and then Macomb.
Could someone tell me why you chose EL over Macomb?
Is it because the video conferencing? I mean you get a good close up view like for OMM….Probably a better view watching boxing on TV then actually being at the arena.
Is it because there are more people at EL? I guess that is a + or – depending on how you think about it.
By the way does anyone know how many people try to get rotation sites around the Lansing Area (Ingham, and Sparrow) vs the number of available spots?
I wouldn’t have to worry about moving if I was at Macomb because there are rotation sites at POH, Henry Ford, Henry Ford Warren Campus, Mount Clemens, and Beaumont hospitals.
Thanks!
Everglide 03-17-2010, 12:27 PM I chose the East Lansing site because I love the East Lansing/MSU and Lansing area. Plus I have plenty of friends in the area from undergrad. Plus I am interested in getting involved with research.
I probably would have chosen the DMC site if the previously mentioned reasons were taken away from me, just because it's newer and you're much less likely to have to move if you wish to stay in the area for a base hospital.
I know Ingham Regional and Sparrow have been the most "competitive" to get into via the lottery however I am unsure the exact numbers on this. For what it's worth, I was told "most" people get their first choice. Personally I wouldn't bet a house on it in this market.
donblackbelt300 03-17-2010, 12:45 PM Thanks Everglide! That was helpful.

A lot of people choose East Lansing for the direct involvement of research through MSUCOM, but you can always get involved with independent research throw the surrounding hospitals if you are really gunning for the Macomb campus yet still want to do some research.
I am essentially doing this at the DMC campus at Detroit Receiving.
Everglide 03-17-2010, 04:40 PM I probably should have specified I'm interested in continuing research with a specific group at MSU. There's definitely plenty of good opportunities at all the sites.

From my understanding each site has hands-on OMT classes. It's one of the few classes that is not conferenced.
Kingstonhopeful 03-18-2010, 07:34 AM Hey does anyone if MSU COM is able to assist OOS students with any scholarships to offset the cost? Also are we eligible to apply for the Jan 15th deadline scholarships if we recently got an offer? Where do students at the DMC campus live? Do hospitals in the vicinity provide student housing? Finally, about what percent of MSU COM students match into allopathic residencies because the match list does not indicate between osteo/allo residences.
Thanks
Everglide 03-18-2010, 08:01 AM We were told on the tour day that about 20 people matched into allopathic residencies (the 08-09 match). The match list MSU gives out does not include any of the allo residencies on it.
If anyone happens to know where an Allopathic match list is, probably self-reported, I'd like to see it out of curiosity.

I am living in Berkley. If you want to live in the suburbs I would suggest Berkley, Royal Oak, Troy, Ferndale...
Some people are living south of Detroit but I don't know that area really at all.
There are a few good apartment places in Detroit... I don't know the names though.
I am not aware of hospitals having student housing... and have never heard of this.

I will be living at either the Millander Center or River Front apartments. There are plenty of apartment complexes in downtown and midtown detroit.
donblackbelt300 03-19-2010, 06:42 AM Is the cost of attendance going to be the same for the branch sites?
I know its the same tuition but is the personal expense etc going to be the same?
Also is there a facebook group for the Macomb site?
Thanks in advance!
wannabeaDO 03-19-2010, 07:53 AM Has anyone heard of a student paying another student to switch rotation sites at MSUCOM?
katwaa 03-19-2010, 09:33 AM Also is there a facebook group for the Macomb site?
Thanks in advance!
Yes there is,
http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=174559783567&ref=ts
Also I think personal expenses will be around the same for the Macomb site, housing prices seem very similar to East Lansing, and you also don't have to pay for parking at the Macomb site from what I understand.

I would have to say the prices would be cheaper around the Macomb site than the East Lansing campus

Yea as far as I am aware, that is the same.

It's about the same price for an apartment in macomb compared to EL depending on what you want. 1 br 500-700, 2 br 800-1100.. all depends on the amenities and 'newness' of the apartments.
enmeds 03-21-2010, 09:39 AM Hey everyone,
Does anyone know if we can still apply for the scholarships due on Jan15th? Also, does MSU COM help students who are OOS/international with the high tuition cost for out of state students?
Thanks

Jan 15th scholarships have already past according to Dr. Falls. There is the OOS scholarship that is due in sept, which was mentioned above. There will be scholarships available during our first year, but none of those are available to apply to yet.
Cheshyre 03-22-2010, 08:18 AM Does anybody know how the visit days are set up? Is it a group or individual format? Thanks in advance.
Everglide 03-22-2010, 08:33 AM The East Lansing visits are by group, my day had about 50-60 people. They called that group "large". The actual tour of the school is broken into smaller groups of 4-8 prospective students with 2-4 year one students.
I believe they encourage attendance to the tour day if you are on the wait list.

Insulinshock 03-25-2010, 11:45 AM Hey guys I hope your app process is going (as) smoothly (as it can)!
I don't mean this to come off as arrogant or anything so please do not take it this way. This is a genuine question of mine and I was hoping someone could answer it.
I am an instate student in Michigan, and I'm applying this upcoming cycle. One of the schools I'm seriously looking at is MSUCOM. However, my stats are quite a bit above their averages (3.85/ 33S). While this puts me in a good spot for MD schools, I also hold no reservations against DO schools and would be very happy if I got accepted here (i know some great doctors who went there). My question is whether or not they would waste an acceptance on someone with stats quite a few points higher than their average?
I would seriously consider attending this school, and I plan to let them know that, but I was just wondering if anyone has any insight on how the school would view this situation and how they would perceive my application.
Again, I'm not trying to come off as arrogant, this is just a question I have as I prepare for the upcoming application cycle. Thanks!
Cheshyre 03-25-2010, 11:52 AM Insulin -- It's fine. In recent years especially, there have been growing numbers of people eschewing MD to go DO.
For what it's worth, I have a 35S.

I have heard of a couple kids from my university with stats like that and are now students at MSU COM. Even though you have high stats it doesn't matter. They really look at extracurriculars and volunteering. They want to know whether you worked during college or not. Also they emphasize what you did during high school. At my visit they said they like to see students who volunteered during high school and not just during college because they were pre-med and it would look good. COM is all about service to the community so I would try to convey that in your essays. Your high stats will help for sure, but they look at the big picture. I have a friend with a lot higher mcat than me but they were rejected from MSU COM and CHM, whereas I was accepted to both and picked COM. I have been planning on the osteopathic route for several years now and didn't want to jump ship to MD. Key is to apply early and be sure to include everything little thing you have done on the secondary.
Start now and get together every single activity you have done since your freshman year of high school. Figure out the dates and hours for each activity. The secondary takes forever, but it is so important to get that acceptance.
enmeds 03-27-2010, 08:44 AM Does anyone know why MSU COM, a established school with a really good reputation, has the vast majority of students matching in DO residencies as opposed to a select few in MD residencies, when compared to other DO programs? Is it more of a student choice rationale or something else? Also at the DMC campus if one does not have a car and wants to live close to campus but in a secure area, is that an option? Where do students live in Detroit?
Thanks

The reason I was given is because there's a massive number of DO residencies in Michigan. If memory serves, I heard that 1/3rd of DOs in the US have done residencies in Michigan.
I have no idea if this is right or not, but take it however you will. I'm personally confident that there are multiple factors behind it.

I think the reason the students match to more DO residencies compared to other schools is that the majority of MSU COM students want to practice in Michigan and Michigan has more DO residency positions than any other state.
Yes there are plenty of options to live close to the DMC campus so that you are within walking distance. It is located in midtown Detroit and is fairly close to Wayne State, which is a secure area. If you have more questions about this you can message me.

Don't worry. I am pretty much your numbers twin and will be attending starting this summer... so no, good numbers are not a problem, probably rather encouraged ;)

Why are you concerned about the final when anatomy doesn't start for another three months? For that matter your first year of med school has not even started. Either way, im sure you could find the contact info of the professor for the class, and ask him. Sorry, not trying to being mean. Just wondering what the point of worrying about a final exam in a class, which you have not even started, will serve. Relax and enjoy the next three months, you will be studying and stressing plenty once med school starts.
jphwki82 03-28-2010, 10:42 AM As for your question on lecture notes, they record the lectures. So you will be able to have an audio recording of the lectures available online.

anyone go to Macomb campus. I wonder if we will study anatomy there over the summer if you are assigned there. How to find the good place to live in Macomb? Thanks.

Im not placed at the Macomb campus, but was originally. Anyways, you take the anatomy class in Macomb. The campus has a brand new anatomy lab, from what I heard from Katie Molina. As to finding apartments, try rent.com or craigslist. Also, roommates.com would help you find a future roommate or room to rent. Kingstonhopeful 04-05-2010, 07:21 PM Does anyone know if the tuition for years 3 and 4 is the same as years 1 and 2? It appears that tuition like for OOS is on the rise, after starting at MSUCOM, are you locked into that for 4 years or can it change? Finally, does MSUCOM have any sim man type human simulators for clinical skills?
Thanks

Found it on the Financial Aide website http://www.finaid.msu.edu/read/budcom.pdf , it breaks down everything for the 4 years of med school.

You'll have simulated patients (basically actors) during 1st year. Close to the end of 2nd year, you'll use something like SimMan to learn and get ACLS certified.
enmeds 04-06-2010, 10:15 AM So is the 30,000 and 69,000ish tuition figures quoted by MSUCOM for In state and OOS including that summer term (e.g summer, fall and spring) or just the fall and spring term?

2 post above yours is the tuition link on MSU's Fin Aide website, which breaks down four years.

Yeaup, that estimate includes summer, fall and spring for the first year.
The numbers change because second and fourth year are considered fall and spring only, which runs around 20,000 IS and 46,000 OOS.
Third year (sum/fall/sprg) is around 42,000 IS and 92,000 OOS.
MSU has a posting for MSU grad students looking for housing or have a room for rent too https://apartmentmatch.com.msu.edu/
Thank you a lot for your information.

Non-Loan options through MSU COM can be found at http://com.msu.edu/ss/scholarships.html. There is one OOS scholarship that is due in September. Other options would be the National Health Service Corps Scholarship, but you would be required to do your residency in Primary Care. If you want more options for specialties, there is always the Army, Navy or Air Force HPSP. HPSP covers costs of med school, you get a monthly stipend of 1900/mo, and a $20K signing bonus. In exchange, you pay back 1 yr Active Duty and 1 yr Inactive Reserve time per year of scholarship. Im doing the Air Force HPSP. So if you have questions, just PM me.

I didn't get the OOS scholarship. Associate dean told me they give out 8 per year, and they had 50 applicants for it this year.

I thought so too, but I did get email from them that I didn't get it. So I asked the associate dean how many are given out, and it seems like they made the selection for the year.

According to this: http://ap.com.msu.edu/clerkship/description.php
there are 20 weeks of elective rotations and 14 weeks of selectives. There is a list of all the options on that page. Not sure about any international students, I believe the class is usually >85% IS.
EDIT: The factsheet (http://com.msu.edu/pub-rel/Fact_Sheet/factsheet.html) says that the incoming 2009 class was 93% IS students

I don't know how many, but I know there are Canadian students. This year they might have close to 50 OOS students.
DanDan17 04-09-2010, 08:17 AM Hi, I am on the accepted waitlist and I called earlier in the week to find out if I was in the top 10. I was not. I was planning on calling back in the beginning of May to check again. My question is.... how much does the waitlist usually move from April-June. Is there a chance that the Top 10 will be completly different/refreshed in a month due to people accepting/declining offers? I am setting up my future plans as if I will not be accepted this year but I still REALLYYYY want to start this summer. Words of wisdom, advice, any help would be appreciated...........
Cheers
Everglide 04-09-2010, 08:28 AM The movement of the waitlist varies each year because it depends on accepted people withdrawing and people on the waitlist in front of you declining... so it's difficult to predict.
My advice would be to start thinking about your gap year just in case. However I wouldn't go signing a one-year lease or committing to something long-term in case you are accepted off the wait list.

From what I've read on last year and the year before's forum, approx 70% of accepted waitlist students are offered a spot in the current year class (not exactly sure how they got this number or how accurate it is..). I would assume the biggest waitlist movement is from mid- to end of May since May 16 (?) is the last day students can hold multiple acceptances. But like the above person said, it really depends on each year so you should definitely have a backup plan just in case.
enmeds 04-09-2010, 09:40 AM For those on the guaranteed waitlist or who have deffered acceptance for a year, are you required to pay the deposit to hold your spot?
Thanks

Anyone know anything about the Brittany Park Apartments close to Macomb site? I live in California and looking for an apartment at Macomb site. Thanks.
nossonif 04-12-2010, 07:54 AM From what I know, once they call us, we have 15 days to pay the first deposit. If they don't call us this year. We have to pay the deposit in September in order to save our spot.
So, is it true that we could call and ask if we are in the next 10 in line or not?

So, I just talked to MSUCOM office today and I am in the top 10 to get in and she said 5 people withdrew today so list is moving which is GREAT for all of us. However, unfortunately, they only have openings in Macomb site. I am from East Lansing and went to Michigan State. I am considering deferring it for one year assuming that I don't get into East Lansing site. Does anyone knows anything about the Macomb site. Is it as depressing as I think it is! ;)
Thanks,

I ended up choosing the DMC site after visiting all three. I really liked Maccomb and DMC better than EL... but it really depends on what you are looking for. Maccomb just opened up like a month ago and everything is brand new. You would also be closer to most of the 3rd and 4th year rotational sites.
I would suggest visiting at least before you defer.

I chose the Macomb site, and I actually never visited the campus. I wanted it because of the smaller class size, brand new building, and the area. My husband and I went down a few weekends ago to find a place to live and realllly liked the area. We are living in Chesterfield, about 10 miles east of the school and just really enjoyed all of the surrounding area. There is a nice big mall next to the school, Lake St.Clair is 1 mile from our place... it just seems like a nice place to spend the next 2 years.... maybe you will enjoy something different than EL for a bit. Remember though, that even if you defer, it doesn't mean you will get EL... I actually don't think you get a choice if you defer, they just place you I think.

I would say not to defer one year if your only reason is you might not get the site you want. I too did my undergrad work at MSU in East Lansing and I do love it there. However, I chose DMC for a number of reasons (I do research at Detroit Receiving for one, making some connections :P). I would say visit the sites and see what they are about, the advantages and disadvantages. Also, a few of my classmates and I plan on driving up to the EL a lot anyways for tailgates and such (all the good stuff). So I don't plan on missing out on much in the EL.

chinocochino 04-13-2010, 11:13 AM Can anybody confirm the academic calendar for incoming 1st year students? It seems that the summer break between first and second year is only about one month. (~July 28th to August 31st)
Conversely, the other Michigan medical schools like WSU and UM have roughly 2.5 months off! Is the workload just spread out more or is it just more work? Thanks.

I think and as far as I can tell from the calendars... we have no break at all, maybe a week at the most. I believe the workload is spread out and more and in addition we have OMM which WSU and UM do not. We also start about 2 months before the other schools in Michigan do.

Yeah there's about about a one month break between first and second year.
Some may have a differing opinion but this is mine:
MSUCOM has less vacation time than well... every school I have looked at (all Michigan schools, etc). Most schools have a longer Summer break between year one and year two with the purpose of either vacation or research.
I would say the workload is slightly larger because we have a few more classes (not just OMM) however the big factor is classes are much more spread out. Start Year 1 in June (opposed to August/Sept), Summer break late July (opposed to May/June), "end second year" aka start board study late May (opposed to late April/Early May).
The big perk of this is we don't have to do anatomy on top of the rest of Fall classes.
Cheshyre 04-13-2010, 11:48 AM MSUCOM has less vacation time...
When I talked with some current students, they said that as a result of this schedule, they had felt stressed only once in their 1st year, for less than a week.
They said that compared to MSU CHM, COM students are much less frazzled.

ahh I see it now. I swear I've looked at that schedule soo many times and was convinced we had no time off and that's what I prepared myself for. I'm excited now!
chinocochino 04-13-2010, 01:09 PM Wait, so you're saying that since MSUCOM has less vacation time (1 month roughly) they are less stressed than MSUCHM? Did current students tell you that the workload "seemed" more spread out than other med schools?
Of course, the only way to measure the difference would be to interview people that had gone to both med schools...impossible!

On a somewhat unrelated note, CHM has less vacation time than most MD schools. I think their year one ends in mid June.
I've heard varying opinions on whether they're actually more stressed or not.

I know of 4 people who live at the harbours.. they seem to think it's decent. it's about a 5-10 minute drive depending on traffic. a lot of students also live at lakeside village and northport.. and clinton place are also very nice. if you contact the office @ msucom-muc they should have a list of recommended apartments and information on them that all comes from current students.

I took the MCAT for the second time the very last time it was offered for the year, September 12, and I don't think I started my AACOMAS application until October and I still got in. I'm sure it's not advisable to do that, but I don't think July is too late if that's what works best for you.

Yeah basically same story here. I think I re-took the MCAT on Sept. 2nd, finished all my AMCAS secondaries before I started my AACOMAS secondaries, applied to MSU in January and got in. That is probably the exception, not the rule, since they have much earlier deadlines than most D.O. schools, but it obviously worked for katwaa and me :)

There has been movements, since I got in less than 2 weeks ago. That being said, East Lansing and Detroit site are now full and the chances of us getting in any of them is slim to none according to admission lady I talked to.

I was accepted in November (got an email). I received the Graduate Application and the Choice of Location forms within the few days via snail mail. I filled them out and mailed those back right away (with a nonrefundable deposit :(). I recieved an email in about a week confirming my location in EL. Based on the previous posts, there are no more spots in EL. Now, as people withdraw, people from the "Location WaitList" (or someone who was accepted awile ago but didn't get their first choice location) will be pulled off to take my spot... You are probably not going to get into EL today, but others might still withdraw... Congrats on getting accepted! I guess there is a Potluck scheduled I won't be attending...
klmnop 05-19-2010, 08:06 PM Seeing as it appears I would most likely have to be at the Macomb campus, can any of you take a stab at selling me on this location. Keep in mind I live under an hour from the site and I know how much the website and such is 'playing it up'.
Also, how does it work for year 3 and 4, if you are designated to specific sites for years 1 and 2.

I am going to Detroit campus but I would go to Macomb before EL too. I visited all three campuses.
I personally like the satellite campuses because the class size is only 50... You should get to know all of your classmates well, but big enough that there should be diversity.
The macomb facilities are brand new. I think they just opened like 3 months ago, so everything is state of the art.
Years 3 and 4 are clinical rotations and most of the rotation spots are in southeastern Michigan anyways so that is another plus.
I also like the area of the campus as well. Even though it is very close to Hall and by malls and other shopping/ entertainment, it is on Macomb Community College campus (separate enough so you don't have to mingle). It has nature areas around, I even saw some deer run by while I was visiting.
Last plus would be that it basically shares a parking lot with a Henry Ford hospital so you are very close if you want to do some shadowing or such.
I might have gone to Macomb if I didn't find a really good deal on a house near the Detroit campus.
klmnop 05-20-2010, 10:07 PM I am going to Detroit campus but I would go to Macomb before EL too.

Detroit is currently full... there is a waiting list to get into the campus but there should be a lot of movement in the next couple weeks. Good luck!

bradsh 06-11-2010, 05:26 PM Everyone should be aware that MSUCOM seems to be moving some classes entirely online with no physical lectures. If that's not your thing, don't come here. It's not clear yet how far they're going to go with it, but the second years just had their entire respiratory and dermatology sections online, and incoming second years currently have their entire pharmacology course online with no physical lectures.
It gives you some flexibility for learning on your own schedule, but some people really need physical lectures, and those people will suffer here.
With that in mind, it's best you choose a laptop to buy that you really enjoy looking at.
ofoshoukno 06-16-2010, 07:17 PM does anyone know if spots for East Lansing are still open?
kabirm 06-17-2010, 09:47 PM Does anybody want to switch with me- i'm at the dmc campus and looking for anyone situated on the east lansing campus. thank you so much- if you pm me i'll respond immediately. I already have great housing deals set up in detroit that i can assist you with.

I love online lectures. There were a couple classes that were online for my undergrad and I was able to pay attention a lot better then being their physically. But I know with others it's quite the opposite.
Anyways, will the recorded lectures be on the same time as the physical lectures? Since the group I meeting start right after lecture, I was curious if I would be able listen to lecture at home before the lab meeting.
klmnop 06-20-2010, 07:21 AM all my science classes in undergrad were recorded. with the amount of information that was given to us there was no way i could follow along and keep every minute detail if i only went to class. lecture video/audio is amazing to get every detail and i wouldn't have done well any other way.
thitchcock 10-19-2010, 04:06 PM Hi everyone, I am currently waiting for my AACOMAS app to get under review (waiting on one final transcript to be marked as received), and was wondering about how ,ong it takes at this time of yr for AACOMAS to transmit it to MSUCOM and how long it takes MSUCOM to make a decision after receiving your secondary? I read how some people got an answer in a week that they were accepted, but I didnt know if this also applies for OOS applicants?
thanks for your input
