I'm a student at a relatively good (top 50, but towards the end of the list) medical school and I was wondering if it would still be worth it to apply to top IM programs. I have done extensive research and published three first-author papers. What are your thoughts? Thanks for any advice!

Here's the thing. Applying to residency programs borders on free (you can apply to 30 programs for <$300). So why not? Assuming your Step 1 score isn't 180 or you don't have poor LORs and grades, you should be competitive.
