Did you have anything, such as letters, sent to the Georgia Campus or Main Campus? Because there a a number of us who got an email saying the undergrad letter is missing as well as our DO, even if we used Interfolio or VirtualEvals

This is for everyone that got the email from PCOM-GA about them not having your LORs. This is the response I got back today from them--

EMAIL
"Thank you for your email. Let us first thank you for your patience as
we transition to our new paperless system. Yesterday, quite a few email
notifications were sent out in error, some of which also contained
incorrect information. We are working diligently to correct the problem
and apologize for any inconvenience. We urge you to check back with us

I called PCOM Admissions a few moments ago. There is a glitch in their e-mail system. They are going through each application by hand to verify completeness including receipt of LORs. Another e-mail will be going out in a few days that is supposed to be accurate.

For now, hold the panic to a minimum.

My letter were all sent to PCOM in Philly which then sends them to Atlanta. After speaking to PCOM Philly Admissions I called PCOM Georgia and was told that in fact, my application was complete.

Orientation of the Class of 2013 begins today so us 2014 folks are not today's priority. No interview invitations have gone out yet.

For the supplemental-
I have read that GA-PCOM has gone paperless, however my e-mail tells me to print it out and mail it by snail mail... has everyone else received these instructions?

Also, did yall type your information onto the PDF, then print it... or print it then write in the info?

I printed it out, filled it out in ink and mailed it. My suppemental essays were typed and attached. The school said it looks fine and my application is complete. I am awaiting scores from my re-take of the MCAT on August 5th. The school said that they will not review my application until after September 8th when the MCAT scores are released. Nothing for me to do but wait and pray.

I am a first year at GA-PCOM and we just finished our orientation today. One data that was presented to us was the number of Georgia residents in my class and the previous classes. The number has been increasing from class to class but not by much. About half of my classmates are from Georgia. However, I don't think their emphasis is on where you're applying from. They're more interested to know if you're determined to practice in the southern states (especially GA) after graduation. I was an OOS applicant myself and I did fine. If you're a good fit to the school, they will gladly accept you whether you're an OOS applicant or not.

I basically used the same essays for both campuses but if you have some specific reasons to why you would want to attend the georgia campus, that would definitely help.

Just to let you all know, the average GPA (I believe the dean was referring to cumulative GPA) for my class was a 3.7 and the average MCAT score was 27-28 (I was surprised that our numbers were so high). I was below avg for both and I was an OOS applicant and I still got in.

Yeah, that is a pretty high GPA for an average, especially a somewhat brand new school/campus. I thought PCOM-PA was even around a 3.5.

Any resolution on the LOR thing?
My secondary app fee just cleared the bank earlier this week and my LOR (through interfolio) and secondaries were sent over two weeks ago, so I emailed admissions to see if I was complete. My PCOM-Philly is complete but they dont have my LOR for PCOM-GA, though they were sent at the same time by Interfolio. I emailed this fact back to admissions and also to Interfolio.
Has anyone had this resolved for them yet?

Yes, you do need to print on separate copies if you applied to the PA and GA campuses. They need separate versions since they're separate admission committees.

I was granted an interview last year and then put on the wait list. I never got off of it, so I'm applying again. It's a pretty small school. If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer them.

If you read the secondary that you receive from each school you will notice that they are slightly different from one another, since one application says to check off if you applied to the Philadelphia campus, and the other says to check off if you applied to the Georgia campus. Essentially they are different applications to "different schools," even though they are the same school but on different campuses. To make sure there are no mix-ups, you should print one copy from each school, check off the appropriate box, and send them separately along with the application fee ($50 I believe), even though they are sent to the same address. You don't want any chance of any mix-up. That's what I did. :)

Yes, I received two e-mails; one from the Philadelphia campus, one from the Georgia campus. I received them both on the same day and interestingly, both at the exact same time.

Has PCOM-GA started giving out invites for interviews yet?

I received an email from them a few weeks ago concerning my application. I emailed them to confirm that I was complete, they replied I was, and then a week later another email saying my application is complete and going under review. I haven't heard from them since. :confused:

I would resend everything you sent to the GA address to the PA address. I think you must of misread something. Everything I've been reading for the past few years has said to send materials to the PA campus.

No need to resend. I had a friend that this happened to (o.K. it was me) and I called PCOM in PA and they said it happens all the time. The wrong recipient justs sends it to the correct one. Breath easy.

i diagree. i'd resend your materials if you still have them available. youve been working years to get to this point in applications, why trust someone who is likely busy at the beginning of a new term to forward your stuff to the right place. fork over the extra couple bucks to re-mail your materials and sleep easy knowing all your stuff got to the right place.

I visited the GA campus today since I was in ATL for the wedding. Had a brief tour, liked what I saw, chatted with a woman from admissions (who said I would most likely get an interview after reviewing my file) and took off.

She sent me with some pamphlets about the school...in one of them, on how to be a competitive applicant it said they have a GPA cutoff of 3.3...anyone know if that is true, or strictly abided. I have a 3.27 overall and around 3.8 science.

I liked the school and have a lot of family in the area so I hope I still have a shot.

Oh...for current students, is it pretty obvious who texastriathlete is? Or are there other people who wander around in tshirts from triathalons in texas?

I never got a complete email...not sure if they do them or not. But they are in the process of switching their system over to paperless now. I would call or email and check.

I've called them about once a week for the past 3 weeks to make sure they have everything, especially since I applied to both campuses. Last week, the woman told me they hadn't received my LORs, then after I told her they were available through Virtual Eval, she looked it up and said "oh, there they are, ok". If you stay on top of them, you'll be sure not to end up at the bottom of the pile.

As of this afternoon, I'm complete. Can't wait for an interview invite..! :)/:scared:

When I called them the other day, they said that they legally cannot hold checks, so once they receive them, they have to cash them immediately. However, your application gets the slow treatment, lol. I would call just to make sure they have everything. I just found out that AACOMAS never updated my MCAT scores even though I had the AAMC send them over in July. So my applications everywhere for DO schools have been sitting. So much for getting them in early. But it's good to call (obviously for me) because you might find out you're missing something you shouldn't be.

There are people on this board who have gotten in with less than a 3.3 and a strong MCAT. I bet the mean GPA is 3.3 and the literature is simply misleading.

I was born and raised in South Florida (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale). I do understand they have a preference for those in the SE, but I also know they don't receive as many applicants as PCOM, so they probably get their invites out faster.

I lived in Atlanta from 1988 - 2006. My employer moved me to Jacksonville, Florida in 2006. I made it clear in my application that I was anxious to return "home" to Georgia.

It's a pretty general essay of why PCOM, why osteopathy, include healthcare related experiences, etc. They aren't specific questions like some other schools have.

I'm heading up tomorrow afternoon for my Tuesday interview...anyone else going to be there? How big of an interview group do they do? Any advice from current students?

the first group of interviews is tomorrow. the number of students varies from day to day, but you can expect between 5 and 10 I'd say. most days the interviews start at 12, but on the first tuesday of every month, they start at 11. No need to get there before 10:40ish because youll just get to hang out and meet the other interviewees until 11. 2 students will come out and give you guys about a 30 minute tour of the facilities, then they will sit and eat lunch with you guys and answer any questions you may have. After lunch, you will go back to the admissions area and begin interviewing.
As far as the interviews go, they are usually pretty laid back. Dont get yourself so worked up and nervous that you dont allow your personality to shine through since the purpose of the interview is to get to know you beyond the numbers. Dress professionally, turn on your charm and remember to be polite and respectful to everyone on campus...bad impressions can travels fast. I'll try and swing by before noon to say hello and answer any other questions you guys may have.

As for notification, everything I have read (I think it was in the interview feedback section) says they will get back to you within 2-4 weeks...hopefully closer to 2 though.

Me toooo. I've been complete for about 2 weeks and after calling them they were like, well, it can take up to 3 months to hear back. LECOM-Bradenton called me with an interview invite within an hour of receiving my MCAT scores. I'm still waiting to hear back from NOVA Southeastern as well. I would really like to hear back from both PCOM and NOVA soon because my interview at LECOM is October 30th, and if I get accepted, I'm only going to have until December to make a decision.

Now that is has been a few days...

The interview on the 6th went well in my opinion. I had already toured the campus with the head of recruiting a few weeks earlier so the tour wasnt any more informative. Both student tour guides were biomed students and though they are friends with a lot of the med students, I would have liked to have had med students giving the tour.

I personally like that it is just one building...no competing for parking with undergrads, no running around campus.

A few students were really friendly and came over to us with words of encouragement while on breaks from class. So thanks to you who did...

There were two interviewers who took students separately one-on-one, so I can only comment on my interviewer, Dr. Jenney.
I thought he was great...it was a very laid back interview. I felt good about it but its hard to read how those go.
His questions were very straightforward and conversational...tell me about yourself, why medicine, what specialty do you see yourself pursuing, what do you think is the future of medicine, etc.

I'm a first year at PCOM-GA and last year I received my acceptance letter about 2 weeks after my interview. I want to apologize for not getting on here more often to answer questions. And I don't think many of my classmates are SDNers so that doesn't help either. But you all have Jwalker and he is all you need. =D

Interview at PCOM-GA was by far the most relaxing one out of all of the schools I interviewed at last year. One advice I can give in regards to interviews is that you need to let the interviewers know that you truly want to attend this school!

I was complete 9/10 and I got my interview invite 9/24 (my interview is for Mon, 10/19). I wouldn't fret too much, they're behind this year with applications, trying to go paperless. I'm still waiting for Philly to respond but nothing so far. Good luck to you! :thumbup: :luck:

Do you have to specify which campus you are applying for? Are the secondaries the same for both? What's their minimum MCAT score and GPA?

1) Sort of, f you are sent both secondaries, one says PCOM and the other says PCOM - Georgia Campus. Although they are both sent to Philly when you're done, the headings on the secondaries are different, so they will go to different campuses. Also you have to indicate if you are applying to both schools.

2) Yes, the questions are the same. I basically wrote the same essay for both.

3) There really isn't a minimum. As long as you have over a 3.0 in science and overall and a decent MCAT (23+), you should be okay. Obviously the higher the numbers, the better, but DO schools look at the applicant as a whole. If your numbers are weak, but you have an otherwise compelling application (good ECs, LORs, volunteering, etc), you should be fine.

my mcat is on the lower side so i figured i'd have some trouble. Do you know how often they'll relook at applications, if at all? I'm wondering if i should start to lose hope. pcom was my number 1 hope.

I mailed my things to Philly a few days ago, but does it take them a little longer to process since it ultimately goes to GA? I didn't know if they just faxed them or something. Seems a little on the inefficient side to have it all sent up there unless people at the GA campus don't affect admissions decisions, which I highly doubt.

I, too, have been wondering about this. I have transcripts at five, yes FIVE, universities between my transferring around in undergrad and my dual enrollment during high school. I really do not fathom sending all five of them AGAIN, when AACOMAS should have forwarded them. Some of them are quite expensive. Do they really have you send separate copies?

Im in at both UNE and PCOM-GA and at this point we are leaning toward UNE...but not 100% yet

I really got a great impression of the school. I love the area and it seems to be the best fit for me. My interview was FANTASTIC, and it especially helps that one of the doctors was an English major DO (and loved the fact that I was going the same route). It seems that the students really love the faculty, which shows that you can develop strong relationships with them. I'm excited to see what comes through the mail next week.. :) :xf:

My wife and I will be there.

the first group of interviews is tomorrow. the number of students varies from day to day, but you can expect between 5 and 10 I'd say. most days the interviews start at 12, but on the first tuesday of every month, they start at 11. No need to get there before 10:40ish because youll just get to hang out and meet the other interviewees until 11. 2 students will come out and give you guys about a 30 minute tour of the facilities, then they will sit and eat lunch with you guys and answer any questions you may have. After lunch, you will go back to the admissions area and begin interviewing.
As far as the interviews go, they are usually pretty laid back. Dont get yourself so worked up and nervous that you dont allow your personality to shine through since the purpose of the interview is to get to know you beyond the numbers. Dress professionally, turn on your charm and remember to be polite and respectful to everyone on campus...bad impressions can travels fast. I'll try and swing by before noon to say hello and answer any other questions you guys may have.

Right now it is my only acceptance so right now it is #1. I have an interview at LECOM in November and have yet to hear back from my state MD programs (UAB and South AL) and a couple other DO schools so I won't decide until then. I like the newness of the facilities and most of the things I saw, so I definitely would not be disappointed attending the school if that is how it works out.

I just spoke to her on the phone, she said if I call her by this afternoon, she should be able to tell me the decision. But I was in the Monday group, so I'm not sure if they're looking at the Tuesday group today. Hopefully they are, better to know sooner than later! Good luck to you! :luck:

I was told in my interview that approximately 120 - 130 applicants are offered admission to fill a class of 80-86 and that 7 or 8 applicants are pulled from the wait list and offered admission sometime after April 15th and up to the day classes start.

Total interviewed each year varies from 220 - 250. So, each person interviewed has survived the cut of about 90% of the applicants (assuming 2,500 applicants) who are not interviewed and then has, statistically speaking a 50-50 shot of getting an offer of admission.

If you interviewed and were told that the school will continue to re-evaluate you, this is not necessarily a polite way of telling you no. Many applicants are re-examined and later in the cycle offered admission. This happens just after April 15th, for example, when a large deposit deadline passes and applicants with multiple acceptances decide to go elsewhere. They may have paid the $250 deposit due by December 15th but pass on the big deposit and therefore seats become available.

Almost all of my wife's family is 2.5 hours away from PCOM-GA and I have a couple family members in the area. I am from ME originally and almost all of my extended family is up there still. My hang ups are staying in the south and living near ATL.
I live on the gulf coast of FL now and miss the seasons and all of the outdoor activities I grew up with. I really dont care for big cities and feel like Suwanee is just outside ATL, are places like Bufurd a little more rural but still close enough to commute?
Also, in looking at a map I see the bottom of the AT is really only a few hours north of Suwanee. Ive been to the Mts of NC and TN and like them...no skiing but the hiking and mt biking is good.
What are the GA mts like? Can some current students and fellow outdoor enthusiats share their thoughts? Do the mts get snow in the winter? I know there is no skiing but I could always travel a few times a year to really ski and take a weekend trip to NC if needed.
I am really leaning toward UNE but it would probably be easier on my wife and make both are parents happier if we stayed down south.

I dont know about the number of letters but I think its always better to send more rather than the bare minimum.

The writers can send them directly to the school or you can use some of the letter delivery services like interfolio, which I think is easier on the letter writers and more convenient because you dont have to worry about them getting letters out to every school, or hounding them when you decide to add another school, they upload them and you can send them wherever you want.

Not sure about the MCAT scores, i found 26 on their website http://www.pcom.edu/Admissions/adm_FAQs/Adm_FAQs.html
and if you look up a couple posts they were told 25 at the open house on Friday night.

I'm originally from a town that's about 1 & 1/2 hours from PCOM. There are a few good places to hike, fish, etc that are not too far from the school. As far as snow, you have to travel a little further if you want to see anything worthwhile. Many areas in NE Georgia some years, but it's light if they do. I think there are a few ski resorts just over the border in NC

Don't torture your wife and make her move up north. No disrepsect intended for the northern folks. But, people from the North retire to the South for a reason - not the other way around.

I am biased. I admit it. I am going to a few more interviews myself but GA PCOM is a great school.

Going through my acceptance letter today I noticed I didnt have the New Student Enrollment form they ask to be sent in with the other paperwork. I spoke with Trena Gologan who said they weren't put in them and she emailed me the word doc...maybe it was just me but if anyone else needs it.

May want to also consider tuition into the equation, many folks just graduating are carrying loans in the high $200k range up (close to $300k) and up.

Follow up with them, express interest...send an email or make a phone call to trena gologan in admissions, ask her what your status is, express a reason you want to move to the state or have ties to the state or region. It can only help.

On October 20th I interviewed with a guy from Raleigh, NC. We both received e-mails from Trena the next day that we had been accepted. I won't out him by posting his name on a public forum but he is from NC and he got in.

How is the Suwanee area? I have not visited PCOM-GA yet, so I am trying learn about the area and the school itself. I failed to find information about rotation sites and the mission statement. PCOM GA is located in Gwinnett County. Gwinnett County is located Northeast of the City of Atlanta about 25 miles. The county seat is nearby Lawrenceville. About 5 or so miles from the school is the Mall of Georgia. The area is suburban with clean industries and several local colleges including a branch campus of the University of Georgia.

The are many homes, condos and apartments near the medical school campus.

As for rotations, at my interview were were given a lot of information to take home. You can do your rotations all over Georgia and there are sites in South Carolina, Alabama and Florida.

A 2nd year student emailed me the weekly schedule for 1st year students. There is a two week break over Christmas/New Years and Spring Break week in March. For this calendar (which was last year or the year before) the breaks were from Fri, Dec 18th (after 12 noon) to Mon Jan 4th and Spring Break was the week of 3/21-3/29. I think the academic calendar only shows the days that the offices are closed.

I called today and was told that they had everything except my committee letter... I thought that was strange since my school sends everything over virtualevals and I got the confirmation from virtualevals with Ga-PCOM listed...

Anyway she looked around a little bit and found it and then sent an email off to the Philly campus letting them know I was complete...

I'm glad I called... I may have been incomplete for several weeks if I hadn't...

I got one from my PharmD advisor as well as my undergrad advisor and a coworker. Hopefully, this will be enough. I am waiting to see if my friend who went to Pcom Ga will give me a letter. Anyway, I wish my app would hurrry up and get verified!

I just sent Trena an email to clarify this point. I know many professional students (PharmD, DMD,etc), such as myself, do not hold a bachelor's degree. I'll let everyone know what I hear back.

When I was addressing this issue with PCOM Admissions, I was told that they were always amazed every year at the enormous number of applicants who fail to complete this one, simple requirement and are not ever consider complete and then fail to make inquiry as to why and ultimately are not even considered for admission. Attention to detail is a required skill for physicians.

I just got off the phone with Marsha at the PCOM-PA Campus. She stated that a letter from a professional program advisor or Dean (Pharm.D, DMD, etc) was acceptable if a student has not earned a bachelor's degree.

She stated that the letter could be faxed to her office at (215) 871-6719. Hope this helps to clarify the above discussion.

Thats great, congrats...you make the third person to reinforce this about GA-PCOM. I visited for a tour and got the invite less than a week later and I remember another applicant having a similar story.

I met with Trena Golgan (trenago@pcom.edu) before my invite...she is the admissions coordinator.
I checked back and on 9/28 lawyerdoc posted about emailing Trena: I sent an e-mail to Trena G. politely making inquiry into where I stand. I then called and got her voice mail that said that she was out on a recruiting trip and to leave a message so I did. The next day I received the e-mail invite. Coincidence or does being proactive help? I don't know. I am so excited about the interview.

No clue what days they meet but I interviewed on 10/6 and my letter is dated 10/12...i emailed trena on 10/14 to see when they met and she responded by letting me know my acceptance was in the mail.

I interviewed on October 20th. The Admissions Committee met the next day. I was told that it meets every two weeks on Wednesday.

I emailed my interviewer the following day...I knew they were meeting soon and wanted to be sure that it got there before they met so I didnt send anything via USPS. I liked the email too because I was able to follow up with a few additional questions and then Dr. Jenney sent me a nice reply the following day.

My friend may be making the trip to Atlanta with me, do any of you students know if there is anywhere in the school he could sit and wait? I feel bad for making him driving aimlessly around Atlanta all afternoon...

I understand and completely tend to agree with you. I am just confused as to why they interviewed me and have not rejected me.

thats certainly not a rule...they like to say it is, but i know plenty of people who have 25 or less who are in my class and other classes. Of course it all depends on your file as a whole...if you are an underserved minority, or have a really high GPA, great EC's and LOR's, a likable personality, etc, the committee can look past a lower MCAT score. I will say the school gets more competitive every year which is evident by the stats of each incoming class and how each class has taken less time to fill up. Also, I know for a fact that there wasn't much wait list movement for the past cycle. But anyways, if you have 25 or below, its not a death sentence. As long as you get an interview, you've got a shot!

Perhaps you are correct in most cases. I must be in the .1% exception. I interviewed on October 20th and received an e-mail the next day that I was accepted.

My MCAT was a 21R. GPA 3.3 (science and overall). My life experience and success in my first career helped overcome a low MCAT. There are exceptions to every rule and perhaps I am an aberation to the norm. The "average" MCAT is just that, an average. By definition that means some are lower and some are higher. I would agree that the higher your MCAT score the better your chances.

I made sure that the Admissions Committee could see from my application that I was unique and exceptional in other ways. I made sure that my application stood out from the stack of applications on their desk. I had additional letters of recommendation sent in that pointed out qualities that went beyond the usual two professor letters.

If you only send in the "cookie cutter" two LORs and D.O. letters it is more difficult to get noticed for the unique person that you are.

I also was proactive in communicating with Admissions. I was careful to avoid being a pest but still communicate my sincere desire to attend the school.

My story, I hope, will give some hope to the applicant that has less than stellar MCAT score and/or GPA.

I truly believe that D.O. schools look beyond mere statistics and want to see holistic qualities that indicate success in medical school but also a caring physician motivated by a desire to help and not money.

Thanks! I've interviewed at 3 schools and I've been accepted to 2 of them. I really enjoyed my time at GA-PCOM and was really (and kind of unexpectedly) impressed with the school. It's my favorite school so far. I like the small size, the facilities, and I had a really great interview, but I'm a little worried since it's a newer place. I'm trying to make the decision now... anyone who has advice, it would be greatly appreciated, please PM me!

We agree. The interviewer(s) can be your greatest ally or your worst enemy at the Admissions Committee meeting. It seems to me that your whole life's accomplishments come down to a 20 or 30 minute interview. Don't kill yourself trying to figure it out. You can't.

Last year PCOM GA had 2,600 applications. The number may exceed 3,500 - 4,000 applications this year for 86 seats. Admissions folks have a tough job. They have to reject scores of otherwise very qualified applicants.

I do know one person who was accepted last year with a 20 MCAT; another with a 22. Most do have a 25 or higher as the class average is 26 or 27. I know another person with a 37 MCAT and a 3.8 GPA who didn't get accepted. She had no life other than studying. So factors other than MCAT and GPA must matter a great deal.

i'm in the same boat. I interviewed on 10/6 and got the we have not made a decision on you. I guess its like an informal waiting list. I was very confused at first because I thought the interview went great. I had Dr. Mitchell (spell check?) and the only question he really asked me was what kind of doctor I wanted to be. Besides that, all he talked about was how great the college i went to was and how great my application and LORs were. So getting that response confused me.

I feel that my mcat is my weakest part. I have a 23 and a 3.6 cum and 3.9 major. I'm retaking the mcat jan 29 so hopefully i can bring it up a notch and shuffle the score to them really quick.

For those accepted...since we're kind of "wait listed", we should try to get prepared for if we get accepted. Isn't there a big list of shots and vaccs you have to get? I think i saw one of the vaccs takes a few months to get? Do any of you have that list so I can go ahead and try to get all of those?

While it definitely wouldn't hurt to start on that now, assuming you are fairly confident about receiving an acceptance somewhere for the fall, my understanding is that schools tend to be somewhat forgiving about not having all three shots done the day orientation starts. I think as long as you've started the three rounds, you're okay. kcumb was decent. their facilities are all brand new and the campus is nice. Bad part is the campus is located in the more run down part of kansas city. And they accept mid 200 students every year...so its a huggge class. During my interview I felt the kcumb was there to make money...not to be a good school. Like the first hour of the interview was basically a sales pitch on how they are the greatest thing since sliced bread...and that gave me a bad feeling about the school. To sum it up...its the complete opposite of pcom-ga. So if you like pcom-ga (which I loved it) then you prob. wount like kcumb)

My student tour guide said he knew a lot of people who got in off of the waiting list. So I would assume that a decent amount of students get off of the waiting list there.

While it definitely wouldn't hurt to start on that now, assuming you are fairly confident about receiving an acceptance somewhere for the fall, my understanding is that schools tend to be somewhat forgiving about not having all three shots done the day orientation starts. I think as long as you've started the three rounds, you're okay. Does anyone know- is it technically a major requirement for clinicals more so than just starting classes (unless some schools have a ton of patient contact right away)?

True true. I know a lot of schools break you easy that first semester and you might have 3 or 4 patient encounters where you learn to do the H&P and all that, but even then from what I've heard, as long as you've started the vaccination you are okay. Don't hold me to it though!

This makes it sound like they do...though Im not sure if this is specifically the Philly campus or GA too. I would assume they are run in a similar manner. I remember hearing something about working in the community for various things during the first two years during my tour. Hopefully a current student can answer this from experience though.

I interviewed this past Tuesday. I really enjoyed my interview at PCOM... I was very surprised by how much time my interviewer spent reviewing my application before I got in there, this was so much more different than any other interview I've had.

I know I'll have to wait a few weeks to hear back, but I really had a great feeling after the interview.. I'll be doing an interview feedback at some point..

Do what a lot of us did. Send an e-mail to Trena. I'm guessing that because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Admissions Committee will meet next Wednesday. If you got accepted, Trena will tell you.

Honestly, I don't even remember getting a complete email. Call the admissions office and they will be able to give you an update. They can also tell you exactly which day you were considered complete (so you know roughly how much longer to wait for an interview invite).

I believe that's about how long it took for me to receive an email saying I was complete there. I would just e-mail them because it seems like people tend to find out things more efficiently that way- plus if for some reason a certain LOR got lost or something, you can fix it now rather than wait it out.

Yeah, I didnt get an app complete email from either PCOM campus and after several weeks of no word I called and found out I needed additional materials.

I believe PCOM GA sends an email telling you that you are complete.

PCOM does not as far as I know. I ended up calling them and they said I was complete.

I believe that everyone gets a secondary application for both PCOM locations. I know in the past the avg MCAT scores were 25/26, I am not sure about avg GPA, and I know that I had a bunch of questions/discussion about my extracurriculars and health-related experiences. The whole interview was very relaxed and enjoyable in my case, but I have had friends that came out of their interview almost in tears in the past (but they still got in)... Personally I am still waiting for a decision (interviewed 11/17), but I am still hopeful!

Everyone gets a secondary. The school looks at the whole person. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a "safe" range. Last year stats of matriculated students were in the range of 25-27 MCAT and probably a 3.3 or better GPA. I know of one person admitted with a 20 MCAT but the higher the better I'm sure. I also know one person rejected with a 37 MCAT. The lesson here is that stats don't tell the whole story - they are but one factor albeit an important one. I am guessing that the numbers will change upward as time goes by.

That said, there is no low end cutoff and averages may go up this year with a larger applicant pool. You are a bit late to be applying but not out of it yet. You didn't say but hopefully your AACOMAS application is verified. If you just submitted your primary to AACOMAS and are awaiting verification, that process could take six weeks or longer. That pushes you to the tail end of the application cycle when the seats are largely filled.

I was complete on 9/2, got the invite on 9/24, and interviewed on 10/6.

usually with email acconuts if you do you can use the "forgot my username" function to see if you even have a username. I don't even know how PCOM's email works... so I don't even know where to find that at.

I actually corresponded with her a little bit. She recommended I send in what I discussed with her in something more formal that could be added to my file. I'll get on that later this week I suppose.

So I called PCOM-GA today, and asked to see what the status of my application was, and they said the letters haven't been submitted yet !This came as a surprise to me, as I submitted my letters on September 22nd (almost 3 months ago) ! I e-mailed Trena again, and she is yet to get back to me.
I've already been accepted at another osteopathic med school in Florida, but I definitely want to hear from PCOM-GA, as I am a Georgia resident (i.e. close to home).

So I'll know my fate (hopefully) at Ga-PCOM a week from today... time is going by so slow...

He pretty much just said "you know that taking it over would make you more competitive, etc., etc." but stressed that what he was saying did not mean anything (i.e. accepted, rejected, wait-listed). He said "for all I know you could be accepted tomorrow." I wouldn't worry about it until you hear back, and then depending on the answer take it again if this is where you really want to be.

That is just Dr. Jenney's personality. He is very realistic, so don't read too much into that question. If you get in and you have him as your professor, he will be the same way. It's not a scare tactic or anything, he just likes you to think about the reality of things.

I interviewed with Dr. J back in Oct. and while he didnt ask me about the MCAT he did push me a bit about why I was leaving my current career for another. It cant hurt to follow up with a nice thank you card or email asserting your interest in the school.

I interviewed with him about a month ago. He questioned me about the MCAT and also told me to reconsider taking it again. I was ultimately put on hold. What was your MCAT, if you don't mind me asking?

I would go ahead and send the letters. I sent mine via Interfolio the day I mailed my secondary.

Don't worry about the MCAT talk....just know that it WILL come up. I think that's the one common thread in all the interview feedback. I was asked about it, but Dr. Gregory didn't spend too much time on it.

Def send them right away. I dont know that there is any penalty for sending them too soon. I sent all of my letters along with my primary and it didnt stop em from getting interviews. The sooner the better...then it gives you time if there is a problem. With PCOM there have been letters not accepted or requests for additional letters from advisors from your institution.

"I am a first year at GA-PCOM and we just finished our orientation today. One data that was presented to us was the number of Georgia residents in my class and the previous classes. The number has been increasing from class to class but not by much. About half of my classmates are from Georgia. However, I don't think their emphasis is on where you're applying from. They're more interested to know if you're determined to practice in the southern states (especially GA) after graduation. I was an OOS applicant myself and I did fine. If you're a good fit to the school, they will gladly accept you whether you're an OOS applicant or not.

I basically used the same essays for both campuses but if you have some specific reasons to why you would want to attend the georgia campus, that would definitely help.

Just to let you all know, the average GPA (I believe the dean was referring to cumulative GPA) for my class was a 3.7 and the average MCAT score was 27-28 (I was surprised that our numbers were so high). I was below avg for both and I was an OOS applicant and I still got in."

Who know what will be competitive for the Classes of 21014 and 2015. My stats were lower than these averages and I am OOS and was accepted.

At the "Meet the Dean" event a few months ago, the Dean told us their MCAT average was 25, not 27-28.

Why would a school report historic average that is lower than last years average? That doesn't make any sense if they are trying to attract competitive students. Anyways, when a school reports their MCAT average, they report the previous year. They don't say, well over the past 120 years of the existence of this school, we have averaged a 25 MCAT.

Regardless, the Dean of PCOM-GA said last year's class average was 25.

No clue, I got one of the first interview dates at GA but heard nothing ever from philly. I assumed it was because my apps for both schools were essentially identical except my GA app discussed my ties to the southeast and specifically GA. Be proactive and contact GA admissions and let them know you are interested in this campus.

I received a letter today from PCOM GA acknowledging receipt of my $250 deposit and advising me that: (1) $2,000 is due by April 15th; (2) that I have to have original transcripts of all prior college work sent to the college; (3) that on or about April 30th I will receive a "binder" with additional information regarding a criminal background check, etc. (stuff to be done before classes begin in mid August).

The four years of fun begins. :laugh:

Call Trena at PCOM Ga and ask. If you are not renting a car, you might consider taking the MARTA train from the airport to the Chamblee station and there catching a cab or the GCT (Gwinett County Transportation) bus to a stop near the school.

MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) serves Fulton and DeKalb Counties (essentially Atlanta) but does not go into Gwinnett County (NE of Atlanta) or Cobb County (NW of Atlanta) but does let you transfer to GCT at the Chamblee station. Might be cheaper that way.

All this aside, the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is SW of Atlanta in College Park. PCOM Ga is NE of Atlanta. Between the two is about 40 - 45 miles. You are better off renting a car. You don't need the public transportation hassle on interview day. Good luck at your interview

THANKS!!! I am so excited I can't even begin to describe it in words. I don't think I will pursue any other school at this point. It's too exhausting. Plus I love DCOM to pieces- they have welcomed me with open arms! I wish I could have you as a classmate as well, but at least I'll know we'll be colleagues to some degree! Congrats! Are you planning on joining us next fall or are you still waiting to hear from other schools?

I received a letter today from PCOM GA acknowledging receipt of my $250 deposit and advising me that: (1) $2,000 is due by April 15th; (2) that I have to have original transcripts of all prior college work sent to the college; (3) that on or about April 30th I will receive a "binder" with additional information regarding a criminal background check, etc. (stuff to be done before classes begin in mid August).

The four years of fun begins. :laugh:

Just sent my secondary application about 4 days ago. My MCAT score is a 23, but my overall GPA is a 3.51 and my science GPA is a little higher. I know that the average GA-PCOM score is about a 25 and that my MCAT score isn't that competitive, but is there anything I can do to help compensate for it?

Are you prepared to retake the MCAT in January? If you ARE prepared for a retake, that would probably be your best bet. If that is the case you may want to talk to Trena G. at PCOM-GA and ler her know of any plans to retake the MCAT in January. They may or may not accept the January score in place of your 23 (each school has a different policy on this, and they will let you know). If you ARE NOT prepared to retake the MCAT, it may be best to start studying for it again (personal opinion). A 23 is a difficult hurdle to overcome with an adcom, but not impossible. That would be the best advice I could give without any further details. Best of Luck!

You'll get in! I know people with stats lower than yours who got in there and other places. Just stay positive and blow them away when you're offered an interview. Belive in yourself, not SDN

What do you mean your letters are messed up? Has PCOM not recieved them yet? I also emailed Trena and have yet to hear back. Remember it is the holidays...so do not worry. My file is complete,.although i dont think I will hear anything back before the new yr.
