View Full Version : Too late to apply now?

I'm taking my test tomorrow and planning to apply after I get my scores. Assuming my scores come in early October, would it be too late to apply? I heard it takes about a month to get your primaries verified?

If I do wait for next year to apply, should I void my score tomorrow? I'm not confident in reaching my target score right now bu it would be disappointing at the same time not knowing how you did. I've already taken the mcat once (25O), and if I keep tomorrow's score and have to retake again, would a third mcat look really bad?

some people submitted their amcas prior to taking the MCAT, and applied to one school. after they got their mcat scores back, they added more schools depending on their score. this way, they didn't have to wait to get their amcas verified and then wait for secondaries.

i would suggest you designate one school on your amcas, submit it now, and when you get your score back, add more schools and get their secondaries in asap.

lots of people on this forum have already been invited for interviews, attended interviews, and gotten acceptances. not to scare you, but this is the reality and these people completed their applications in june/july.

tomorrow is the last day to take the mcat for this year's application cycle so i guess this wouldn't be late in terms of schools' deadlines for applications, but it would certainly set you back in terms of how early applicants are sending in their applications.

p.s. GOOD LUCK on your test tomorrow!!!!!

Yes, this time in the app. cycle is when it takes 4-6 weeks to get verified. Submitting your primary application right now is late in the cycle and it will hurt your chances of getting accepted.

Submitting in October and waiting weeks for verification is very late. You are past the deadline for some schools and brushing up against the deadline for a lot of others.

My advice is to save your money and wait til next year. You will have a much higher chance of succeeding if you submit early and it gives you the option of retaking the MCAT if you don't like your score.

Good luck on the MCAT!

thanks for the input. i'm also have doubts about reaching my target score. if i feel like i can't reach it tomorrow, should i void and take the test next year? i have already taken the mcat once and got a 25O. If i keep my score for the next one and don't like it, then I plan on taking it again for a third time. Would that be wise, or should I just void tomorrow's and take the test in January?

I want to know my score but am afraid of being disappointed and having to take the test again. Is taking the mcat three times really that bad?

I think anything over 3 times is frowned upon... but someone who's taken them three times and gotten interviews would be the best reference.

Why are you on here if you're taking the mcat tomorow? get rest!!
Good luck:luck::luck:

It would be WAY too late to apply in October. Technically, you can do it. In reality, it's a good way to sink your chances.

Anyway, good luck on the test! If you feel good about it, don't void.

if you don't think you can reach your target score, don't get your exam scored. it might be good to go in and take it just for experience and void at the end. you've already paid for it so you might as well take it :)

i've taken the test 3 times with a 29 on every test. i'm applying this year - i'll let you know if i get interviews. :luck:

i'm having some remorse after voiding that test today. it wasn't so bad and getting around a 30 seemed likely but my goal is a 35+. ahh.. the curiosity grows with each minute!

I know you'll do great on your interviews!

awww, yeah that's the risk in voiding, but i honestly think it's better to be safe than sorry, especially if you can delay your application a year and have more time to study for it and nail that 35+ - i know you can do it!
