I'm currently a 3rd year medical student in Europe but I would like to do my clinical rotations in the US during my 4th year. So I was wondering what are the requirements? Is Step 1 mandatory?
Thank you.
Thank you.

I'm going to Cornell/Hospital for Special Surgery at the end of the month. Most schools/hospitals have their own requirements - some require Step 1, some don't. These websites are a good starting point: http://www.aamc.org/students/medstudents/electives/start.htm http://www.medicstravel.co.uk/ Jonathan shreypete 10-05-2009, 08:12 AM Thanks. Actually, apparently we're allowed to do up to 12 weeks of rotations (but this is specific for California). I'm still not sure about the USMLE Step 1 requirement. Did you already take Step 1? agranulocytosis 10-05-2009, 08:49 AM There's this company that offers clerkships to international students called Americlerkships. I believe they offer malpractice insurance to students rotating through them. I've seen a few students here and there doing rotations and observerships through them but I haven't spoken to them regarding their experiences or anything. jtlc2345 10-05-2009, 01:59 PM Thanks. Yes I have taken Step 1 - however, Cornell doesn't require you to have taken Step 1 and I hadn't when I applied. Other places, for example Mount Sinai just require a letter from your school stating that your course is equivalent to the knowledge covered in Step 1 - it really depends where you go - if it is not clear on their website, then e-mail or call to make sure.
