Posted, but I'm not sure I understand what you were accused of here.

Hey, all. I am a pre-med student that is new to this forum. Currently, i'm freaking out about a stupid decision that i made and how it is going to affect my chances of getting into medschool.

Before attending a school sporting event i decided to have some drinks. I don't drink often, and those drinks caught up to me. On the way out of the event my friends and I were stopped by campus police, and the EMS on site was called over for evaluation. I was medically cleared and told to go home (living on campus, less than a block away).

I am over 21 years old. I was told by the police that no legal action would be taken, but that it would be reported to my institution. Judging from some institute standards i found online, it could land me a 3 out of 5 level sanction (meaning probation). I am tearing myself up about this, as it is quite possibly the stupidest thing i have ever done. It is completely uncharacteristic of me to be so irresponsible, and i'm very angry at myself for jeopardizing my future for something so silly as drinking.

One of the reason's that im so upset about it, is that i'm not exactly the strongest candidate out there. My GPA is on the low side (3.3, albeit at a notoriously rigorous school), but i have strong extra curriculars (president of campus organization, shadowing experience, long-term volunteering, etc.), and a somewhat unique story (not necessarily relevant here...). Also, it's fairly close to the time that I will be applying. I'm looking at 2011 matriculation.

Can anyone give me their thoughts? I'm making myself sick going over and over it in my mind...

A bit more info from the OP

Sorry for not being clearer in my original post. The accusation is a violation of the student conduct code on campus. There is a ranking of 5 levels of sanctions at my institution, 5 being the worst. According to the criteria, because the EMS were called over for evaluation, the sanction becomes a level 3 or 4, meaning that it will appear on my record that I am on probation. Also there are fines involved for alcohol evaluations and classes mandatory with the sanction.

Any opinion, advice, or insight you or anyone else could give me would be much appreciated. Like I said before, I'm so upset with myself for risking my future dream by doing some thing so stupid.

okay, with this information I can offer a bit of opinion. This will be a red flag of significance on your application. It will not by itself keep you from getting accepted but it will need to be addressed (not necessarily in your personal statement, but elsewhere in the application or in your letters) and you will need to convince the adcom that this was not typical behavior, etc.

You should try to get the offense reduced as much as possible and potentially seek legal counsel, but really, the most effective thing will be to ensure that you and those who write letters of support for you can clearly convince people that this event didn't reflect you.
