I am planning to apply here. I live in South Carolina and PC is a respected school in SC. They are not yet accredited but I'm assuming that they will be before graduation. I'm not exactly sure how that works. The Dean of the Pharmacy program is very well respected to, from what I've heard.

I have applied! We will have to wait til June to make sure they get pre-candidate status. But all looks good!

They don't start interviewing for awhile... not until January. Now we just have to wait.

I was told that PC had their pre-candidate visit and it went well. I was also told they would find out in January. I see others are applying so I may join that club. I like the South anyway much warmer. Anyone else interested go to www.presby.edu (http://www.presby.edu) and check it out.

Visited the open house this past weekend. Beautiful campus and very nice small town atmosphere. I eraned a lot about the program. They have a solid faculty with much experience. The Dean has started several schools before and the program is very student oriented. I liked what they have to offer and there were other potential applicants that were there. About 25-30 as a matter of fact. Many of us talked and it will be one of our top choices. They are not hung up on the PCAT but grades and the overall make-up of the student is important to them. I have heard other schools tell me that but they seem to mean it!

The school sounds a lot like SUCOP. If you want to go to school in a larger town check it out.

Hello, has anyone interviewed at Presbyterian college. How is the interview procedure, what kind of questions do they ask, what is the test about? Any information will be good. Thanks

hi, i interviewed there. it was a really nice campus in a small town. the staff is great and make you feel at ease. the interview process was not stressful at all. you will interview with a couple of faculty members, one at a time. the test is pretty much all common sense questions. The questions they asked me were all about my pharmacy work experience. no ethics questions or anything like that. basics, why pharmacy...why presbyterian college...etc. although it is a new school they are going to have an awesome program. i decided to go to my home state school , fully accredited, etc for $$ reasons. this school is pretty expensive but will be fully accredited eventually with no problem i think. im pretty sure they are trying to find the highest quality candidates for their first class. good luck!

I thought the interview was very laid back and allowed you room to "distinguish" yourself so-to-speak.

Oddly enough, unlike the interview experience from a member's previous post, I got a lot of ethical/situational based questions..."what would you do if you saw a nurse using the same size blood pressure cuff on everyone" (I thought this one was really out of left field but still interesting). Anyway, just be yourself and let them get a good sense of what you can bring to their program. Remember, they are new and will try to look for characteristics in their first class that will lay a solid foundation so make sure to think about your answers with that in mind.

I really liked the school and the whole interview process was one of the reasons I'm going there this Fall, so I wish you luck.

I also got into PC.. After going to the interview and campus tour I was really impressed with the school, faculty and program. They genuinly seemed intrested in what u had to say and all were odviously excited to be opening the school in 2010. Unlike other interviews where I felt that I could have been talking to the wall for all they cared. Ive chosen PC and am really excited:soexcited: to be the inaugural class 2014

I found out like less than a week after my interview, by phone and mail. My interview was in February. I agree rxgirl2014, they did seem interested, I feel like I was actually interviewing them..haha. Only downside is It's an expensive school, but I knew that before the interview..overall I feel It will be just as good as most established schools. Plus every established school was new at some point!..haha

Great place to go to school. Wonderful facilities, faculty really care and it may be a small town but our class has really become close and that makes it a lot of fun.

You need to check it out it is better than most of the other new schools I had seen and better than some of the established schools in this area!

Clinton is a small town, but it really allows you to focus on school. I am a current student, and I have never seen such a committed staff. I am also very impressed with the program, the staff, and the opportunities available to students and look forward to the rest of my career at PCSP.

Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy admits students based on academic criteria, as well as, the student’s ability to communicate, the student’s involvement in volunteer work, the student’s exploration of pharmacy as a profession, the student’s recommendation letters, and finally the student’s on site interview. Academically, the student is required to have a minimum pre-pharmacy GPA of 2.75 and a cumulative GPA of a 2.5 when other classes are added into the GPA. The PCAT is another academic requirement needed to be considered for admission at PCSP. At this time, there is no minimum score requirement for the PCAT, however, it is important to understand that each year students will be evaluated based on other students applying during that year, therefore, each year the average PCAT will change. The PCSP admissions staff truly looks for an individual that has a history of service to their community. At PCSP, there is a huge initiative to have every student involved in community service. The motto of Presbyterian College is “while we live, we serve”. In every aspect of the pharmacy school, this too is upheld. The admissions staff also looks for someone who has explored the profession of pharmacy. This can range from working in a pharmacy to interning, shadowing, or simply interviewing a pharmacist. This shows initiative on behalf of the student, to understand what pharmacy is all about. Finally, the admissions staff will review letters of recommendation, resumes, and essays submitted with the application for admittance to PCSP. If the student is selected for an interview, the student is asked to visit campus for an onsite interview. During this time, students will be able to interact with faculty and tour the facilities. If you are interested in applying to PCSP, please feel free to fill out an application at http://www.pharmacy.presby.edu or simply consult the website for further questions regarding the program. *Remember to always note deadlines before submitting applications. Applications for fall 2012 will be available in the summer months ahead.

The wait list will be pulled from based on the number of those students who decline their acceptance or withdraw later. Please be aware that students may change their mind on schools as they are informed of other acceptances. There is no way for our faculty to know how many spots will open up, but if you were wait listed don't be discouraged. This occurs with many students at many institutions. If you aren't accepted this year, do what you can to work on your GPA and PCAT scores in order to make yourself increasingly more competitive and simply reapply next year. Pharmacy school has been one of the best decisions of my life, and trust me if it had come down to it, I wouldn't ever hesitate to tell a future student to wait and reapply next year. It is worth the wait and promises a bright, interesting, and rewarding career in the future. I hope this helps!

In my experience since beginning pharmacy school at PCSP, i've seen many instances were acceptance wasn't based merely on one's PCAT score. The faculty tend to look for a well rounded individual who serves their community, has had experience working in a pharmacy, has a good GPA...etc. So, if your PCAT is the only thing you are worried about, don't be discouraged. Hope this helps!

The idea of this requirement is a student's desire to reach out and network with other pharmacy professionals. If you have not worked in a pharmacy yet and do not know a pharmacist, I recommend simply finding an independent pharmacy and going in an "interviewing" and talking with a pharmacist. Explain to them your interest in pharmacy and ask them about their experiences. This will build a relationship with that pharmacist and I'm sure they would be more than happy to help you out with the reference letter. This is a requirement of many institutions. Also, some pharmacology professors are pharmacists at universities. This is another avenue to explore. I hope this helps!

I'm a current student and the campus is not very large, but bigger than say just a community college or what not. It of course is a private institution, so it's not as large as say a state university. Keep in mind the pharmacy school is a few miles down the road from the main campus, but the college works hard to keep the two integrated. Also, all of the pharmacy professors are very active in research and are quite often published as well. As far as the interview process, on your interview day, you'll be given a tour of the pharmacy school, you'll meet faculty and you'll be given an interview based on a wide range of topics to assess your overall "character". Are there any other questions you would like answered?

Does PC have a research facility, where the students are allowed to do research ??? Or are there all the technology or instrumental devices provided for pharmacy students ??

There is a faculty research facility in the pharmacy school, in which at times, students are given the opportunity to work with the faculty in independent studies. At this point the faculty have top notch technology in DNA sequencing in particular. As for the students, PCSP has a unique feature that many pharmacy schools do not. The school has a few SimMen, which are fully working simulator "humans" that enable the students to work hands on with a "real patient" through therapy management classes and labs. Does this answer your questions?

I'm a current student, and I have been through the whole process. PCSP is more of a close-knit school than other pharmacy schools that I interviewed at. Though the faculty are involved in research and other pharmaceutical positions, they always have time for their students. The school is located in Clinton, SC. Clinton is a small community but gives you the opportunity to focus on studying. Spartanburg, Simpsonville, and Newberry are all pretty close if you need a little "escape from small town life". The school is a new facility and is beautiful. There are two main lecture halls, many recitation "smaller" classrooms, and there is also a student cafe' area. We also currently have three labs. One is a more of a typical lab that you may have seen in your pre-pharmacy studies, another is a community pharmacy setup in which you learn a lot of the medications that pharmacists see on a daily basis as well as dispensing techniques, and finally we have a hospital style lab in which you are given the opportunity to work with simulators that works just like a real patient in many ways and you are given the opportunity to work under IV hoods, learning how to formulate and properly handle IVs. I have really enjoyed the program so far. If you have any questions for me, I'd be glad to answer them.

Thanks for all the Feed back ~ pcspstudent

What kind of scenarios are ask in the group interaction activity ? and at the interview do they take pictures of the people who are being interviewed ??

Its just an activity to get to know each other and see how you interact. The scenarios are always different. It's no big deal at all, just simply be yourself. Also, yes they do take pictures, from the outside I know that may seem a little weird but in reality it's awesome what they do. On the first day of orientation a greater majority of the faculty already knew my name. They take the initiative to get to know the students ahead of time. You aren't just a "number" at PCSP. Do you have any other questions?

I interviewed and was accepted back in the fall, and like most others have said the interview is pretty laid back. The admissions committee just wants to get to know who you are. Be yourself, remember your manners, dress professionally, and you'll do fine.

I'm really excited about starting PCSP in the fall. I investigated all of the Pharm.D. programs in NC, SC, and GA. PC was the best fit for me, which is noteworthy considering I am finishing undergrad at one of the other schools in the region who have a college of pharmacy.

Best of luck to the current applicants; I hope you hear good news soon!

Yes I got accepted as well. They called me three days after my interview. It's funny because I was pretty sure I did horrible on the interview plus my gpa is on the borderline and my pcat score is well below a 50 but I still got accepted?? I thought it was going to be hard gettin into this school, given that they only accept 80 students.

Just curious, what are the stats of the people who got accepted?

In my class, the class of 2014, we have a great mix of those that had really high scores and those that were on the boarder line. The difference in this program and others, is that your test scores aren't the only thing that get you in. You must exhibit the characteristics of a pharmacist as well. The smartest pharmacist isn't always the best pharmacist, keep that in mind. Your personality and your interaction with patients goes a long way as well.

Yes they will let you know if you are accepted, being put on the wait list, or, yes, if you don't get in. Unfortunately, they can't accept everyone. You should hear something within a month. However, keep in mind that if you are put on the wait list, a letter will have to be mailed and arrive at your residence. I would say six weeks or so and then I'd call. One month may still be a little soon. I know it's killing you waiting. I've been right in your shoes before and it's not fun! :/ But best of wishes!

They will accept enough to occupy most of the seats, however, in most application processes there are a handful to numerous applicants in some cases that will not accept due to location, preferences, and other school offers. So, being put on the wait list doesn't mean you wont get in, but simply says that your acceptance is dependent on what those accepted decide. I wish you the best of luck though!

I suspect that PC is waiting to hear back from some of the students who have been offered admission to see if they are going to accept the offer; everyone has two weeks to think about it from the date that they are accepted before PC requires a final answer from them with a deposit.

Unfortunately, there are only 80 seats available, so they cannot offer seats to more than 80 people at one time. But there are a good portion of people who decline seats for various reasons in every program, so I would not be discouraged, especially if you have good stats and had a good interview.

Also, this is the "busy season" for pharmacy schools. Most of the interviews take place between January - March, and it is more competetive due to there being a significantly higher number of applicants relative to the number of seats remaining in each program.

Good luck, and I'm hoping you hear good news soon!

I agree completely! Also remember that not only are individuals still waiting to accept, there are also plenty of students that will take the$1000 deposit cut just to hold their spot and will later decide to go somewhere else. Thus, this will open up spots for those on the wait list. There is still hope! :) Best of luck to all of you that have recently interviewed and those of you who are still waiting.

We had three drop out, however, 2 were due to medical leave. Both classes, as a whole, however, have really been doing well. If you keep up with your studies the professors set you up to succeed. They give you everything you need, but the issue is usually when students get behind and don't keep up. The pace never slows down so you have to stay on top of things.

All of the students who left for medical reasons are allowed to return, pretty much no questions asked. The only thing that must be done is you must start "fresh" with the next class. For example, I am a P2 but say I got sick and had to leave during this spring semester...I would have to wait until the next classes spring semester to pick back up where I left off. So the timing thing is the only bad thing about it. They are very understanding...and as far as grades, the school really works to set up a system to let you know that you need to work harder. They don't just wait for you to fail out. I know you'll love the school. I know I do. Congratulations and welcome to the family! :)

Hey has anyone received an acceptance that interviewed in late February 2012 or later? After reading this forum I see that some people haven't heard anything and are in the same boat as I am. I must say that I leave my phone on loud every night hoping that I'll be woken up by an acceptance call from PC. sigh... STRESSFUL times!!

I got put on the alternate list today. Has this happened to anyone before here and what do you think of my chances of getting in are???

If you are on the waiting list, you still have a pretty good shot to get an acceptance letter down the road.

For example, I have a close friend who applied to physical therapy school this year: she received two rejections, one acceptance, and one waitlist spot. Oddly enough, the school to which she was accepted is the most "prestigious" of the four, but the school to which she was waitlisted is really her first choice. She was initially ranked #9 on the waiting list earlier this month, and she became discouraged because she felt like she would not gain admittance, but she received a letter over the weekend, and she is now #2 on the waiting list.

I'm not sure if your rank on the waiting list was disclosed to you or not, but the "take home" is that most schools usually delve pretty deeply into their waiting lists for various reasons.

I've also heard tales of students not showing up for orientation or class because the applicant chose to attend elsewhere and didn't have the courtesy to notify the school, and the school will typically contact students from their waiting list to fill that applicant's spot; I've heard of this happening at Campbell and it happened to a friend of mine who is now a P4 at SCCP in Columbia.

I just want to say to all of you that have been accepted, congratulations! I want to personally welcome you to our PCSP family. To those of you who are waiting, I know it's tough. I've been in your boat before, but let me just say in the end it's worth all the stress and worry. Best of luck to all of you. Again, if you have any questions at all, send me an email at pcspstudent@presby.edu

Please keep in mind that distributing and using interview questions is a violation of conduct at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy. All applicants who are invited for interviews are required to sign a waiver stating that they will not disclose questions to any other applicant. If the Admissions committee at PCSP is to become aware of this, the application will be thrown out. We want everyone to have equal opportunities when it comes to the interview. Thank you!
