View Full Version : How is the online kaplan course?
LebLlama 03-24-2010, 06:46 PM If you take the online version, can you do it at your own pace and look at the videos multiple times?
Or can you only view them once and are they only available at certain times depending on the schedule?

You can watch the videos as many times as you want. But you can only take the Kaplan Full Lengths once and some of the quizzes once if I remember correctly.
LebLlama 03-31-2010, 10:53 PM Do you feel it helped?
Im trying to decide between switching to theonline course or sticking with the real life course.
Bagh77 04-03-2010, 01:02 PM To tell you the truth, I felt the in class did not help, in fact it slowed me down. However, it honestly depends on you, can you study alone at home? Are you able to ignore distractions? If so, the online is a lot better. And also watch that guarantee, they have a lot of loopholes or fine print so that you don't get it, even the redo for the course, they say your allowed to retake the course for free but you have to tell them within 90 days... kind of stupid since you wouldn't really know if you have to take it again unless you apply to medical school and get rejected.. However this is only my opinion, I'm pretty sure many would disagree with me.

The guarantee isn't in case you don't get into medical school. It's for your MCAT score. You know that within 90 days, or you know, at least, if you are satisfied.
Bagh77 04-03-2010, 09:00 PM I know that, however I still don't understand why they don't make it any time after, the binding of 90 days is really annoying. Also, even if you get a 33 or a 32 or a 34 (all decent marks) you don't know whether or not your satisfied until you get accepted/rejected into med school. I'm satisfied with a 9 if i can get into med school with it. So your satisfaction with the score almost completely depends on whether you get in or not, otherwise why are you doing the MCAT? I do it to get into med school..

Getting into med school is not a result of your MCAT alone. If you get a 32-34 and that's what you were hoping for, then you have no reason to hold Kaplan culpable for your failures in the application process. You KNOW whether you are satisfied or not based on how your score improves or how well you felt that Kaplan prepared you, all of which you will know within 90 days of taking the class. If YOU are satisfied with a 9, then you are satisfied. You can't say that you are satisfied ONLY if you get into medical school.

A) Never said getting into med school is ONLY the result of the MCAT - I just might have the rest covered and only need to rely on the MCAT now..
B) I never said I failed because of Kaplan (I never said the MCAT was a failure for me, your just assuming random crap), nor did I say that I blame Kaplan for me not doing great on the MCAT
C) How would I know if Kaplan prepared me? I have nothing to compare it to.. If I've taken several classes then yes I can compare Kaplan to Princeton Review or studying on my own.. I don't know if Kaplan prepared me, I walked into the exam and felt like it was the worst test I have ever done, yet i did well.. Does that mean Kaplan succeeded? And regardless of what the score is, the reason people take the MCAT is to get into some form of medical graduate school, thus if I don't get into the school I want due to my MCAT grade, then obviously I am not satisfied with my MCAT - maybe that's how I think? I know many people who would support that ideology.
So please stop twisting my words and lower your Kaplan shield, I wasn't bashing the whole company and their system, I just said I don't like their money back garuntee and that the in-class portion of the course wasn't helpful FOR ME and was warning LebLlama of it.
JoshuaR 04-13-2010, 11:13 PM A: It doesn't matter. My point was that your score depended on many factors, and it is up to you what you think your score should be.
B: My use of the word "you" was meant in the very general sense. I had assumed you were giving advice in general. I could have substituted "one" for "you." Apologies that you took that wrong.
C: It still doesn't matter what the school thinks. If you get the score you wanted, you got the score you wanted.
LebLlama 04-18-2010, 12:14 PM Yeah I think I should switch to the online course. The real life might just slow me down. Just gotta make sure I do stick with it and study like a madman everyday.
LegitBoss4Life 04-19-2010, 12:14 PM Kaplan sucks. Save your money man. I made that mistake already and I'm out $1500. Their verbal strategy is horrendous and they present everything in a "textbook" format which makes the class worthless and drive you crazy trying to memorize unnecessary ****. They emphasize memorization, whereas, the MCAT is more application and critical thinking. I would look into Examkrackers or Berkeley Review first.

I feel like it helped. My score went up 12 points with Kaplan. I did use EK for verbal though. Kaplan verbal IMO was way too dense.
jayel 05-01-2010, 01:06 AM the online course is great. DO IT
UpBeatData 05-04-2010, 06:24 AM Hey everyone,
I'm trying to decide between the online course and in person. Can someone whose taken each tell me a bit about them?
I'm great a verbal, writing, and the biology....
But Physics, Chem, and Ochem are toughest for me.
How do you think Kaplan does in these areas?
thanks:rolleyes:
biochem415 06-02-2010, 02:22 PM Try the Kaplan Live it includes the lectures via the internet and all of the online materials. You can not use other resources and score well on Kaplan, the materials are tailored made to their erroneous books.
