Do you have to be board-certified in sleep to have your own lab, or it's possible to establish your own lab then contract with a sleep specialist to run the lab & read the studies, etc?

no and yes.

There are plenty of businessmen and sleep technicians (RRT's or RPSGT's) who own and/or manage sleep labs.

Thanks for the reply. Now my understanding is it's much better to have your lab accredited for insurance & reimbursement purposes. would you need to have a certified sleep specialist working for your lab to get the accredited status?

Many insurance companies will require the lab to have a board certified sleep specialist. Many will require the lab to be accredited. Some will require both.

For American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accreditation, having a board-certified (or board eligible, see the AASM website for their definition of board eligible) sleep specialist is required.
