The new clinic director is great. She is very helpful and I feel comfortable talking to her about questions/concerns that I have. It has definitely gotten better with her here and I know other students feel the same way.
With the specialties, it depends on the specialty. If you want more exposure in a specialty, they are fine with having you shadow/help. But chances are that you won't be doing any 3rd molar extractions or molar endo or crown lengthening... It all just depends on difficulty/liability.

Without having to think very hard, the biggest con is definitely the price. Especially as I'm getting close to graduation, I've likely got $300,000+ in student loans (just from dental school). There is a lot of paperwork and dental treatment takes a long time for patients, but I'm sure that's typical of every other dental school.
Most of the other cons are about Cleveland, not necessarily Case. I HATE the winters in Cleveland (cloudy and cold from Oct-March). There are some pretty ghetto areas in Cleveland, but if you don't go to those areas it's not a big deal. UPenn is $22,000 more in tuition. More like $50K more when you add the UPenn fees. The cost to live in Philly is 2-3X the cost of Cleveland. Rent in Philly $1200-$1800@ Month vs. $450-600@ month in Cleveland. All totaled the cost difference is closer to $100,000!! I would definitely choose CASE, but only if you are lucky enough to get in. :)

No way is Penn worth $100,000 more. By the time the 100K is paid back, it's really more like 250-300K, and that is on top of the $320,000 you would owe, assuming you went to Case. Ivy League dental school does not make you a better dentist.

Congrats!! I got the listserv email too. It just said Welcome to the List dent2015. That was it, so I'm guessing they're going to use that to communicate with students who put a deposit down. Did anyone else get this too? Or followup information?

Spoke with Financial Aid and they told me they only had $65,000 TOTAL aid money available for URMs. :(

I was using the data from ADA (2009).

Total educational cost for Case was $220,585

and Penn was $264,015

the diffrence was $43,430 and considering dirt cheap living cost in Cleveland, I would say Case is about 50-70k cheaper than Penn.

They'll let you know at the interview. These acceptances were based on december and early january interviews.

Did you receive the letter about making a choice for an email address? Apparently Case allows you to choose a really short email address the school assigns or your firstname.lastname@case.edu.

The interviews are pretty laid back. Just try to relax and be yourself. Like in any interview, dress professionally, strong handshake, good eye contact, and don't forget to smile. Be prepared to ask questions. Come prepared with why you want to go to Case.

Are you going to Case???

So, I've been accepted to Case and UOP. UOP has been my top choice, but I was very impressed with Case when I interviewed there. As of right now, I'm still planning on going to UOP, but I wanted to see if anyone here could give me reasons of why I should choose Case over UOP. I want to make a more informed decision, so any comments would be helpful. Thanks.

UoP has a great program if you want to be a general practitioner. I think Case is more well-known nationally and globally. Because UoP is condensed into 3 years, students have said they have little time to do research or other extra-curricular activities to help them work towards specializing. In general, there is much less research going on at UoP than at Case. Basically, if you go to Case, I think it would help you keep the door open on specializing. Just my 2 cents... both are great choices. Good luck with your decision!

Also, any useful tips about the interviews? I've heard theyre laid back but the same was said about UW and I got semi grilled (thank God I prepared, haha).

Prepare looooots of questions!! One of my interviews was solely based on me asking the questions and the interviewer giving his feedback. He was reallllly cool though, so it was very laid back.

I stayed there and it was completely gross. The bathroom had stuff growing in it and I am certain the building as a whole has not been cleaned in about a year. Another kid I interviewed with stayed at a nice hotel for the 50 bucks. I would take the hotel any day, especially if you want to shower without getting a disease.

They told that the deadline for acceptance deposits is in mid Feb and they will send more acceptances after that. but they told me that I was competing for a primary spot which make my really hopeful. I really love the school and research opportunities there!!

I think the MacBook Pro with the 13" screen and 350 GB hard-drive will be fine. The letter said the desk you sit at has a surface area of 11x11. The school also recommended Dells purchased thru the school's website. :):):):)

Anyone know when classes start at case? When is everyone planning on moving in?

Did not see an exact date for the white coat ceremony, but classes start August 1....give or take. Plan on moving to Cleveland on July 1. :):):):)

I don't know when the committee met. The letter was date Feb 17. AADSAS has not been updated yet.

Is being blanked the same as your status going from "invited for interview" back to "Received/Under Review"? Does this mean I've been accepted???

Being "blanked" means the status is actually blank. The next day the status changed to "offer made" only. If your status changed to "Received/Under Review" maybe you will be made an offer or maybe the adcom is actually reviewing your application. Good Luck!!!:):):)

Wow my interview was really laid back! Mind you, I was there during a snow storm and things were very busy for the faculty. So maybe I was second focus bc of the chaos :p buuut... For anyone still waiting, admissions and my interviewers told me that the committee will meet again and send out acceptances the last week of March or first week of April. When was your interview? Mine was feb 18 and director of admission told me that they are going to have meeting on mar 14 which is next monday. Am I missing something? So I was expecting to hear from them soon like next week.

I interviewed about mid-Feb and also was told the same thing when I called and asked about when I'd hear back. I think, and at least hope, that we'll get considered and given news by next week. :xf:

My interview was today. Maybe there is still one Monday for your batch. The admissions lady looked and said nothing was scheduled and won't be until then so I asked my interviewer and he confirmed it was true.

I interviewed around then and haven't heard back yet. I called the admissions office and was told that the admissions meeting for this month won't be till the last week of March, so somewhere around April 1st is when we may hear news. :xf:

Hey guys, I was recently accepted at Case. I was wondering if any of you had to pick between Case and NYU? If you did, what made you choose Case? I have been researching the forum and found a few that were not happy with the clinical prep at Case and even though it seems to be extremely strong in all aspects, those posts really worry me. Anyone else had to make a decision to pick case over another clinically strong school?

Don't exactly know how many seats are left in the class, but back when I first got an interview date, it was scheduled for April, and I was assured that I would have just as much of a chance and just as much consideration as those with earlier interview dates, if that piece of info helps any.

- Direct acceptance. I was interviewed on February 24 and I received the letter on April 1st :laugh:.

Does any one know aprox how many students are placed on hold/waitlist. I bet the chances of getting in - after being waitlisted- are pretty slim in comparison to BU/NYU who have such large class to fill.

Case is a good school, but way to expensive, weather sucks, city ...sorry it's not that great either. If I have to pay for a school as expensive as Case, i rather be in a great city for 4 yrs of my life ;)

When I called in today, the secretary told me that there were 19 people on the wait list divided into upper, middle, and lower. I was also told that the largest turnover happens between June and July 8th.

Brian told me that last year people from the last group were accepted. Keep your hopes up!

I have heard that in the past they did take people from the third group. The next major deposit is due July 7th. I would assume that some spots will open up then. Just in case tho, I would have a back-up plan in case you don't get in. I know its tough, but things happen for a reason. But hopefully u will get in!!
