View Full Version : Why doesn't SGU just send me a rejection notice?

I'm convinced that SGU is stringing me along now. I applied for acceptance for January '11, and they only notified me around January 1st, 2011, that I didn't quite meet the deadline for January '11, so I'm considered for August '11, but until then, I should take "3-4 graduate level bio courses."

I quit my job, and I'm doing this. There is a HUGE HUGE opportunity cost for me to do this, since i had a great paying job. They guaranteed an interview, and I was interviewed, but I've never heard back FROM ANYONE.

I see that every one of you have already been accepted, but I'm getting no feedback, which could only mean one thing: I've been rejected (which isn't bad). However, what's positively vile about my whole experience is that they have been playing with my mind all this time. They had no intentions of accepting me even in December, but yet, they told me to take courses.

I haven't heard back yet for August, and I'm not receiving emails from them or my coordinator there. Not even a rejection notice.

What the hell is going on?

Should I just assume that I've been rejected, and allow life to move on?

Do you get the impression that they, although they train doctors to be ethical and value the patient's dignity, that they were unethical and didn't value my dignity?

I was accepted for the Foundations program starting in August. Not sure if you frequent valuemd.com ( a board for foreign medical schools) but from others over there it sounds like August is pretty full, if not totally full. After my interview I heard back within about 2 weeks. But that was due to my acceptance at Ross, and I needed to know about SGU, which is where i chose to go. What are your stats. If I were you I would contact your admission coordinator and ask what is going on. If you haven't heard from them since January, then that is a long time. Just curious, but why did you quit your job. I have been working a butt load at the hospital since these are the last few months of income for 4 years.

I was actually accepted to other Caribbean schools, but I wanted to go to SGU. My stats were 27P and Biomedical Eng. BS and MS 3.2/3.5.

Not bad, but not stellar, either. So do you think that it'd help if I told them that I was accepted elsewhere?

I have this nagging suspicion that they will try and shuffle me into that pre-med program. That really sucks. This school maybe very good, but they sure are quite rude and treat people really indignantly.

My first step would be to contact your admission advisor and find out what is going on with your application. To be honest, I would assume if you are accepted, it will be for January 12. Don't quote me on that, but i know August is getting quite full. If they say you are being considered, or that you are waitlisted, I would tell them you were accepted, (they will ask you for a copy of the letter) and then they might bump your to an acceptance, or at least another look. That is how i was able to get a response so soon. My stats were far worse than yours. cgpa 3.4, sgpa 3.1, and a 20 Mcat. So I am obviosuly ecstatic to even be in Foundations.

It is hard to say. I haven't seen anyone with an Mcat as low as mine being accepted. But on the other side of the spectrum, I have seen people with stats like yours put into Foundations, but also direct admission. In my honest opinion, I think they might give you Foundations due to you having been out of school for 10 years. That seems to be the reasoning behind the higher stats people getting into Foundations. I wish you all the best. It is too bad you have had such a crappy experience. I have nothing but great things to say about all the different people I have interacted with in regards to my acceptance and getting all the different things in order to start in August.
