Is there a relationship between the timing of interview invitations and how much the programs like you, i.e. earlier the invitations = they like you more or they think that you are more qualified or competitive?

Not necessarily. Some programs will start giving out offers now. Some will wait.

SOoooooooooo if you get an offer now, that means you are "good enough" and they are interested in what you get.

BUT say Program B doesn't give out offers until December. Just because you get it way way then, doesn't mean they don't like you, they just haven't sent them out yet.

The earlier you get the interviews, the better. You'll get a run of interviews, a run of rejections, a week or so with nothing, and then some more runs.
