i know it's kind of early, but I wanted to know the people who already applied, have they heard anything from MCPHS yet?
I have submitted my pharmCAS on 08/15/11, and they still haven't gotten all my transcripts together, and am still checking in everyday for them to send it to the schools already.

My pharmCAS was mailed 8/22 and everything is complete, but I haven't received any confirmation that they got my application. I'm still working on the supplemental.

I finished my supplemental and submitted it already.

I sent my PharmCas on Aug 24 but one school's transcript is still not there yet? Do you guys know how long it take Pharm Cas to put in that transcript? Cuz the school it to Pharm Cas and another pharmacy school non Pharmcas at the same time. The non pharmacas school already recieved it.

i submitted my PharmCAS on 08/09/11, and there is still one school transcript pending too. I have no idea why it's taking soooooo long for PharmCAS to put it up and calculate my GPA.

It says on the PharmCAS website that it can take 5 weeks for your GPA to be calculated. Then they send out your completed application. I've been told though that MCPHS doesn't start reviewing applications until the middle/end of September and then in the beginning of October they start to send out the first round of interview invitations. I will be obsessively checking my application status until then.

You received an actual letter in the mail? Hmmm I didn't receive any physical notice like that, just a confirmation when speaking to counselor on the phone.

Should I double check?

so i submitted my supp app two week ago, and my pharmcas finally calculated my GPA after a whole month of e-submiting it, they haven't sent it out yet. PharmCAS calculated my science GPA lower than what it was =/, before it was 3.0 and they calculated it as 2.8, and now i'm worried. my non science GPA came out to be 3.5, and my overall GPA came out to be 3.1.
How worried should i be to hear a response back from MCPHS?

I think PharmCAS sends out applications every Monday, so it should go out soon. I know that MCPHS really emphasizes having a degree before matriculation, so if you will have one, that is a good sign. Also if you have pharmacy experience that will help you be a better candidate.

I used psychology and human development classes for the behavioral sciences electives. If you look at the supplemental, they have detailed descriptions on what counts for the requirements.

The only essay-like questions are what you think of the school and if there is anything additional that you want them to consider.

Good luck with your decision!

No they don't require the PCAT. Just add them to PharmCAS and it should be mailed to the school on Monday. The supplemental is already available on mcphs.edu and you don't need an invite. . . just make an account.

Hey guys quick question...I am applying tomorrow to MCPHS Worcester Pharmacy school. I have a BA in Chemistry with a 3.2 overall gpa, and a 2.99 science math gap through pharmcas. I am a PTCB Pharmacy Technician and volunteered for 5 months at a compounding pharmacy, and i also work at a Pharmaceutical Lab as an Associate Scientist. The only C's i have gotten were in Drawing(lame, i know), speech, and calculus 2. All other sciences were B's and Physics was A's. I did get a C in Physical Chemistry 2 (quantum mechanics). What do you all think my chances are of getting admitted? Thanks!!

Hi everyone,

I'm a new member. I already submitted my application and waiting for them to respond. But I am still asking myself the question that did I made a right choice since I didn't know should I apply to the one in Boston or Worcester. I met the advisor for admission in Boston campus (Brian) and he said this year they receive very limited number of transfer, (include graduated students from MCPHS). But what I heard about Worcester that this campus is not that good since I have couple friends dropped out of the program even though they studied like crazy, very depressed and intensive. I'm excited to get into the program but when I think about the money I may lost (who knows) I can't sleep at night. I could either gain or lose everything if I can't handle the workload they assign. Is there anyone studying in Worcester can let me know the truth, what's really happening and is it that horrible. I'm not writing this to scare people who are applying since I am one of them too.

I've read stories also, but you probably have a better understanding since you have friends that went there and dropped out. Have you spoken to them about the actual detail events that lead to their departure? Are these close friends of yours that you are fully aware of their study habits?

I feel that every pharmacy school is challenge and some schools may be more competitive than others. If you studied the right method and with the right amount of devotion, any program is manageable.

my 2 cents.

I actually did the supplemental before the PharmCAS application since it was already available at the time (June/July) . Essay questions were allright (the expected standard questions). All I have from them so far is just confirmation of receipt of my application and supplemental.

If I do get an interview invite from them, hopefully it will be around Oct 28 so that I can knock out 2 interviews in one trip (commute between Worcester, MA and Colchester, VT) and save a lot of money!

Hi guys, here's what I remember from my time there last year. If you're looking to save money, there are two cheaper alternatives.

1) Take the commuter rail from South Station. From Logan, take the Silver Line Bus (~2-3 bucks? About a 10-15 minute trip) to South Station. From South Station, you can take the commuter rail to Worcester (just read the signs and make sure you get a ticket for the right one!); I believe that's about $8. The downside, is this method will probably take the longest amount of time. The commuter rail (depending on what time of day you get there and if it's running with less stops or if it's stopping at every stop) can take almost up to two hours. But if you have the time like I did, a nice opportunity to catch up on some reading :)

2) The Peter Pan Bus. I took this on the way back from Worcester to Logan, and I think it goes directly to Logan but I can't remember for sure. If not it'll take you to South Station. I think it was about 10-15 dollars, but faster (maybe an hour trip, barring traffic) and a little more comfortable. You can also take this from Logan to Worcester as well I believe.

Do note that both of these options stop in Union Station in Worcester. Depending on where you're staying, it might not be that close and you might have to take a taxi to your hotel. I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott and it was probably about a mile from Union Station and the campus. Walking distance if you choose, but a short taxi ride as well.

It's $51 one way or $102 round trip if you would like to calculate that way.

But there might be smaller airports. Depends where you're going from, flights may be limited?

At least last year, some hotels will offer you a discounted rate if you're interviewing at the school. The one I stayed at, the Courtyard Marriott, offers a special rate with the corporate code so it comes out to about 95 bucks a night. It's not as close as the Hilton Garden Inn, but it's still only about 0.8 miles from campus.

I'm not really sure why people would submit supplemental before pharmCAS, but schools do not review your files until both pharmCAS and supplemental are completed. So I would create a timeline from the date your pharmCAS is RECEIVED and PROCESSED, not sent out.

hope this helps.

Because the supplemental didn't require waiting on transcripts to arrive, recommendations to be sent, and GPAs to be calculated. So technically both were done on the same day once just required more steps until it was sent out.

Did MCPHS notify you when they have received and processed your application?

Naw, they interview ALOT of people (in the 300s?)

They will send you a letter to schedule your interview, then after you scheduled, you will get another letter telling you all the details.

I didn't mean I thought I was going to get rejected, but that you said it looked like a rejection. I think they said they get like 1200ish applications and take 200 people (I don't remember the actual class size).

I think I am a pretty good candidate. And they gave me very positive feedback when I went to visit in early summer.

how do u know u are overqualified? I've heard of stellar applicants who got interviews to all CA schools even USCF but they didn't do well in the interview and was not accepted to one school, or was only accepted to a non-accredited school. So don't be so sure man.....

I'll just say I've been in school for a loooong time. And someone told me I may be overqualified. That's all.

Judging by his name, he probably has a PhD degree from Boston University. It is actually not unlikely for PhDs to further pursue a professional degree.

I know for one that UCSF accepted a chemistry professor that had taught for 20 years or something and decided to do pharmacy.

Having advanced degree only means you are prepared for the course work, but does not mean you are an overqualified applicant (not trying to bring you down, please don't interpret wrong). What I'm trying to say is good job for wanting to pursue a professional degree and I hope you are able to utilize both your prior degrees and PharmD degree to seek a fulfilling career.

I would say 2 weeks is a good time to wait between pharmcas being RECEIVED and you calling.

why do people kept counting the days of pharmcas being sent out. many factors can contribute to the school not receiving your pharmcas app instaneously...just saying.

If you have a bachelor degree in the United States, you do not need to take the TOEFL test. Or was it high school diploma sufficient, I can't be sure. But if you have a bachelor, it is definite that you do not need to take the test.

To be honest i have no idea how long the interview is...maybe 30 mins? But the whole time we pretty much just chatted about anything...weather...hobbies...school...

Shes so young, she graduated 2-3 years ago i felt like i was hitting on her...:(

oh well!

I flew Southwest from California to Chicago then to Boston. Took Knights shuttle service to Hilton Garden Inn for $51+tip then walked literally 5 mins to MCPHS down the street. I hope this is detail enough lol.
Other people suggest taking the train/bus/whatever, but from out of state that arrived at 8pm i rather just hop on a shuttle and come straight to the hotel and rest. my 2 cents.

My application for Manchester was sent on a Monday & received on Tuesday and they emailed me to set up an interview for 2 weeks later. This program isn't that hard. If you put in the work, you get the grades! People that do bad are ones with too much going on in their lives, such as relationship issues. Professors are nice and helpful. Remember this is an accelerated program so you're gonna have to step up your game from undergrad! It really isn't that much harder than undergrad. You just have less free time, but you get out a year early, so yea :D

Just made this account to connect with prospective MCPHS Worcester students on here.

Anyway, I submitted my application a while ago, but only 2 weeks ago paid the fee and submitted the supplemental application (basically applied 2 weeks ago). I am a local here though, so I won't be travelling thousands of miles to go to a pharmacy school.

Today I received my GPA calculations and it turns out to be a 3.33, much lower than the 3.54 I had in my undergrad career. Also had 439.70 quality points, whatever that means.

Basically, I went from thinking I had somewhat of a shot of getting in to basically giving up hope. Everyone seems to have a 3.8 GPA on here with super extracurriculars, lol.

I do have my B.S. in Biology completed, have shadowing experience, etc.

Did anyone that was in my situation ever get a call for an interview? Anyone you know that did so?

Thanks folks.

Hey, My gpa calculation also turned out to be a lot lower than what I thought it would be. I will have my BS completed this December and do not have pharmacy experience but got an invitation to interview.

Also, for those asking about interview dates: I called to schedule on Friday and it seemed like they had a lot of different dates available. I wanted a friday and the first friday available was Nov 18.

Good luck!

I interviewed here last week and I just want to let anyone know that gets an interview to relax...it was the best experience I have had yet. I walked in, didn't even see or meet the other people interviewing and wrote my essay. One of the pharmacology professors then took me to his office for an "interview" which was really nothing more than us talking, I don't think he really even asked me a single question. The he took me on an hour long tour of the school. Very easy and nice process. :)

I finished my BS a year ago, my GPA was a 3.5 with science being a little higher and I only had about a weeks worth of shawdowing several clinical pharmacists in a hospital. They tell you after your interview it will take about 2 weeks to hear with a decision.

From Logan Airport, I took the silver line which cost 2$ to get to South Station. Once you get out of the airplane, just go to information desk and ask for the silver line station, or you can just go out to the transportation ground and look for it. Very easy to find.

Once you get off the silver line, go upstair or ask someone. There is always people who can help at the station. From South Station, I bought the ticket to Union station(worcester) which cost 7.75, the hotel and school is like 5 mins from Union station, i just walked to the hotel. You can always call the cab, it should be less than 10$ since it is very close. Good luck

Hey guys,

I'm a current P1 here. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I noticed a lot of people asking about the interview. It is really not bad. It's very comfortable and pretty much like having a normal conversation with someone. The faculty here is great. All of my friends here have said the same thing, that interview wasn't nearly as bad as they thought it would be. And if the essay is like last year, it's just a list of questions, you choose one and write about it. They aren't hard questions at all. They're geared toward personal experiences.

Good luck to anyone who has upcoming interviews.

I'm trying to get my information together to apply by February. I did my bachelors in England so I think there may be some required classes I didn't take at the college level. For example I know calculus and physics were not required for us. I'm getting a copy of my transcript to take to meet with a counselor to discuss.

Does anyone know if I need to take them before I apply or if I can be conditionally accepted pending taking a few classes at night?

I worked for three years in a pharmacy in England doing everything the Pharmacist did so I know it's the career for me. I just don't want to have to put it off for another year.

Thanks!!

Current P1 here. Living on campus is really convenient. If you're looking for your own apartment I know that a lot of people live at Skymark Tower (I'm not sure how good it is). There are plenty of places close by. Just remember that if you want to commute, parking is VERY expensive if you're not able to get a parking pass. I have friends who have gotten into school off of waiting lists. You just have to hope that other people who applied here had other schools as their first choice.

hopefully it all works out.

All I have to say is that GPA isn't the only things that schools look at. They also want to make sure that you can handle their program, fit in with the people, know why you want to be there and whatnot. Just because you have a good GPS doesn't mean anything per se. For instance if you weren't able to write a coherent essay or you didn't interview well people may have thought that you wouldn't be able to handle the class load or didn't give a good enough reason why they should have chosen you.

I mean I know personally I am coming in with a BS in Biochemistry where my GPA for my undergraduate degree was only a 3.09. SO clearly GPA wasn't the only aspect they took into consideration when accepting people.

This.

Once you are invited to the interview, GPA does not matter anymore. Really, nothing in your application matters anymore because they already feel as though your stats are good enough/competitive enough for their program.

Tuesday/Thursday: 9-10 or 10-11 (Service Learning***) 1:30-2:30 Intro to Pharmacy Care

Wednesday, everything from monday, but add Pharmacy Law at 4-6

Friday: Physiology and Health Care at the same times as Monday and Wednesday

Service Learning requires one hour of class time for group discussion and later on in the semester everyone gives a presentation. The other part of the course is 2 hours per week volunteering at a community service site in Worcester. The summer before classes begin, the chance to put in service learning site preferences is open. A lot of people end of doing their 2 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, since those days are the most open.

I got a response today after my interview for PharmD on Oct. 28 in Worcester, MCPHS. They put me in waiting list. I am so upset about it.I did not expect to be in waiting list.I have good GPA (3.71) with BS in Chemistry. I am so upset about it and this is the only college I have applied for. I am completely clueless about to what to do. I still have Bio II and MicroBio grade to be submitted. Is it the reason of why I am still on waiting list? can anyone suggest me anything? I will highly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Well, GPA and all other stuff do not matter once u get an interview. personally my overall gpa was 3.01 and i got accepted within a week of interview. it is how you portray yourself during the interview. it is mostly how u answer questions and the questions you ask them. maybe you didnt impress them. since my gpa is not that competitive i put a lot of effort during the interview, and the interviewer and i ended up talking about his wife and his life in general. it was very conversational. well i wish you all the best

Congratulations to you as well! I'm a man. I don't really know what I'm gonna do about housing yet. I'm just excited right now. Once this high calms down a bit, I'll start looking at that and financial aid/loans and stuff. Is there a facebook page for MCPHS c/o 2015?

Yes, I am definitely going to this school. In fact, I will be canceling all of my upcoming interviews so I can use the money for the 750 dollar deposit instead of airline tickets, hotels, car rentals, etc. If you start a fb page, I will join. Lol.

The MCPHS administrators created a Facebook page for my current class, so I'm sure they'll be doing the same once more people have been accepted and in turn accept the offer of admission.

Congratulations as well.

The nuclear power training pipeline in the Navy was hell, but I made it through that and a bunch of deployments underway. 6 years in the Navy flew by. I'm sure 3 years in Mass will fly by as well.

LOL OK! will create one then! and about the person talking about bad reputation, remember you can always make a difference. instead of talking about drop out rate you should think about the naplex passing rate. This school prepares you for real life! its the second oldest pharmacy school in the country so if it was that bad, i am sure it would have been gone by now

Hello everyone!

So I just took my very first PCAT last september with awful score. Then I learned about MCPHS and how they do not require PCAT. My GPA is around 3.7, no pharmacy experience, but looking forward into having one soon. Should I even get my hopes up for MCPHS considering I have no BS degree? I know that they do not require it, but most of the thread that I have read said that most students accepted have one. (I have an associates though, if that helps :))

Thanks!

Once you got invitation for interview, do you need to call them within a period of time. For example, if you do not call back within two weeks, you will lose your eligibility.

I don't think you'll lose eligibility. It's best to call them as soon as possible (I called immediately after receiving the letter) to schedule an interview as interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. I guess if they've reached their interview quota and you decide to call in to schedule an interview, you'd be SOL. Best to call Kate at admissions and be certain though.

Just relax and be yourself. Seriously, didn't even feel like an interview at all. I would go as far as to say that the interview was fun. I got to tour the school, talk to a few students, talk about myself a lot, etc. Awesome school, tough curriculum, etc.

The best advice I could give you is to be yourself, really. Interview doesn't really feel like an interview at all, to be honest.

I'm in complete agreement. My interview was extremely relaxed and felt much more like a conversation than a Q&A setting. My advice is similar, be yourself and have questions! Good luck and don't stress too much!

Good. I know how you feel. I'm not sure I'll be able to get approved for some loans due to bad credit. I've been playing phone tag with Lynn, the financial aid counselor, to see how to pay for tuition and living expenses. I've only been able to get his answering machine.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this thread and just scheduled an interview on December 15th. I am planning on flying to Boston from LA but not sure how to get to Worcester from there. Does anyone have any advice? Also where to stay and such because I kind of want to explore Boston after my interview. Any word of wisdom is greatly appreciated!

PhoenixFire

Here:

I'll let you know if there's any other type of transportation after my interview tomorrow.
