It is indeed a great feeling to get that acceptance letter. I remember going out iwth my college friends and getting abso-frickin-lootely waste-o that night. Got lots of pictures with me kissing strangers. Funny fun fun. Q, DO Doc34 10-14-2003, 12:50 PM Any particular interesting questions asked at NSUCOM interview? Also i fyou don't mind posting your MCAT and GPA just to see what I am up against? Thanks Fin-Nor 10-14-2003, 02:25 PM you can check out the interview feedback portion of this site. a few others and i have posted our interview experience regarding this year's sessions. iamtravis 11-23-2003, 08:18 AM I too will be joining you all in the class of 2008... congrats and I can not wait to meet all of you. Fenrezz 11-23-2003, 08:38 AM During Christmas break, if any of you guys see a fat italian guy studying for boards at the Barnes n' Noble near Nova, feel free to say hi and buy me a frappachino. That's the place where I studied for the MCAT so I figure it would be poetic to study for step I there as well. What a way to spend Christmas vacation. Congrats on getting into Nova. As an almost native South Floridian, I think you'll like it down there, especially if you hate cold weather. NSU has a good location too. Lots of restaurants around... ... and all the..... girls..... in ............. bikinis....... ...(drool)... Damn, I'm making myself homesick! Ca$h MaNi 11-25-2003, 10:11 PM Congrats all you soon-to-be NSUCOMers!!! Let me see you wave your hands in the air....wave em' like you just don't care....oh yeahhhhh Usually people would say "you've gotten past the hard part, so just relax"....but Ca$h Mani says "celebrate like its 199_...err I mean party it up!!! have fun!! definitely savor the time while you can...." It'll be great to see you all next year...and we'll all be there to help you when we can just like the M-2's have helped us..and thats whats so great the help you get from other classmates? Can I get a AMEN?? And if you have any questions or advice on things dont hesitate to ask it here or privately...the Class of 2007 is all about the helpin'... Ca$H MaNi Fin-Nor 12-11-2003, 04:26 PM NSU BUMP  . DoctorInSpace 01-11-2004, 09:21 AM Congratulations everyone in the NSU class of 2008!!! I wanted to get that out there, as well as bring this thread closer to the front (hehehehehe). Any questions you have please ask. We are all very able and willing to help!!! drlexygoat 01-11-2004, 06:41 PM To the OP... congrats. Maybe we'll be classmates next yr (accepted in October). Rahel828 01-22-2004, 02:35 PM I'm IN:) NSU-COM CLass of 2008!!!!! Found out yesterday via email that I've been accepted to NSU! I guess, I'll get it by certified mail next week sometime.... Umm, how are the out of staters going about their housing quest? Wohoooo Fin-Nor 01-22-2004, 02:47 PM housing... hmmm. i havent even looked into it yet :) my plans are to move sometime in early july-ish so house hunting will be maybe summer time  DrQuinn 01-23-2004, 05:00 AM Congrats to all of you! (NSUCOM Grad 2003) Q, DO Ca$h MaNi 01-23-2004, 10:42 AM dont forget to check out the unofficial website put out there.. go to : www.nsucom.info then click on message forums and register a user ID and password...there is an area for the class of 2008 intros etc... once again congrats... It sure was a bit chilly today.....a blistering 68 degrees...ahhh how i love the south florida sun! $ Mani $ docbon 01-27-2004, 11:25 AM Has anyone heard when school is going to start next year? I'm spending the summer in Europe and I don't want to have to come home one second before I have to! BostonSean 01-27-2004, 07:21 PM I'm in too. :D I have sent in my first deposit but have subsequently been accepted to NYCOM and UNECOM. I really felt good at NSU and I was def. turned on to the school. I had the worst interview experience. My interviewer was sarcastic, condescending, and he asked pointed questions directly in responce to my personal statement. I was sure I had no chance. I go to BU and I was wearing my BU tie that day and he had commented on it as I was getting up to leave the room once we had shaken hands. He said--"Is that a BU tie you have on?" I said "yes it is, I wasn't sure if you had noticed." He said "you know we have NSU ties here as well." I then said "well I hope one day I will have the honor of wearing one." hahahaha. He laughed and I laughed and I wasn't sure whether I just sealed my rejection or maybe that helped me get accepted. I was a wreck. I guess it worked out though b/c 24 hours later I got an acceptance via e-mail!! I just need to decide if I should go to NSU or NYCOM. Anyone have any thoughts on why I should go to NSU instead, will it matter? BS PTjay 01-27-2004, 07:59 PM boston check your PM GregsAnatomy 01-28-2004, 03:38 PM Just got my acceptance today! It's definitely going to be a tough decision, although medical school in south Florida sounds really good right now while I'm stuck in the middle of an Ohio snowstorm.... Rahel828 01-30-2004, 04:05 PM Congrats NSU-COM Class of 2008! I finally got the certified mail today. There wasn't any additional housing information included with it. In an earlier posting I asked about off campus housing. Some very kind NSUCOM M1s and M2s gave their input. Here are some names of places: Cedar Key Surforest Poinciana Lakes Davie Crossings Palm Trace Land Cameron Cove I've got two questions: 1) If I put down a deposit for on campus housing and then decide to go off campus, will I be able to get my on campus deposit back? I spoke to a woman in Housing and she seemed evasive. 2) I wanted to start filling out FAFSA now...but how do I determine the budget if I'm not sure about the housing situation? When I called Fin Aid Office, they said I needed to figure that out first. The acceptance package did not enclose dates for orientation and such. Does anyone know specific numerical dates? I'm not going to be in the country May-Junish and I really wanted to take care of all these things before I left. Is that possible? Thanks a lot. Share info! Ca$h MaNi 01-31-2004, 10:37 PM don't forget UNIVERSITY PARC as a possible residence...its the newest condo/(own or rent) place in the Davie area....really awesome place....beautiful condos ...My roommate and I have a 2 bed/2 bath with beautiful vaulted ceilings, washer and dryer in the unit, patio overlooking the beautiful pool/bar area....its very quiet and has GREAT landscaping...they maintain the premises pretty well. Check it out if you're in the area...oh and you can avoid the traffic of University Drive by driving thru Sunforest and then its like a minute drive to school.....its far enough away that you dont see the school in your window but close enough to roll out of bed late and still make it to class on time..if you wanna go that is...haha:p $ Mani $ Dave81 02-01-2004, 10:05 AM Congrats to everyone, I will also be joining you all in August! Dave81 02-05-2004, 12:24 PM Hey everyone, I don't know if you guys know this already but NSU has an unoffical website created by their students, it has a lot of good stuff on it (like a message forum like this but only for NSU students) so check it out. http://www.nsucom2006.com turkdlit 02-05-2004, 12:31 PM Waddup ya'll! I'm excited to meet everyone as an incoming M1 next year. I was wondering about off-campus housing thats close to the campus (i.e a 5-15 minute walk/easy bike ride). I'm kind of a roll out of bed 5 mins . before class person, so being close is important to me . Can any current students list the names of some of these places? Also, is it difficult to find a place at this time? Are the best locations already filled up and such? This seems so difficult without knowing anything about the area... Thanks in advance and congrats to everyone :hardy:, peace. Dave81 02-05-2004, 12:56 PM that NSU website I gave earlier has a pretty good breakdown of apartments that are close to campus. http://www.nsucom2006.com in the message forums on that site people are beginning to look for roommates too... though there hasn't been many posts, I think it's mainly b/c people don't know about the website. Medic24 02-07-2004, 12:16 PM I'm in. Can't wait to meet everyone in August? Since I haven't heard anything, I have no idea when school starts. Philly weather has been horrible. I know Weather is no reason to pick a school, and it was not mine, but it sure doesn't hurt. DoctorDoogie4 02-07-2004, 05:20 PM Weather was one factor why I chose medicine. Get horribly sick during those Ohio late winters. jd star 02-08-2004, 06:49 PM medic24 - you're from philly? that's where i'm from... there are actually a lot of people from the philly here at NSU... i guess we all wanted to get away from the snow :D school should most likely start mid-august for you guys... i think our first day of class this year was august 11th. as far as housing goes, there are plenty of nice places to live around school... i live in cedar key, which is the closest (it takes me less than five minutes to walk from my door to steele aud.). so if you're looking for convenience more than anything, that's probably the way to go... congrats to everyone... let me know if you have any questions about cedar key or NSU... Dr JPH 02-08-2004, 07:42 PM Originally posted by jd star i guess we all wanted to get away from the snow :D What are you afraid of, jd??? LOL Hope all is well. HoudyK 02-08-2004, 08:12 PM Has anyone ever heard of a case in which the admissions committee recommends an applicant but the dean rejects them? I was just wondering. At the end of my interview last week one of the doctors said, "I am sure you will hear a positive response however the final decision rests with the dean". So, I hope this means I get accepted, I guess I will know on Wednesday for sure. Hope to join all of you in the class of 2008. Best, HK:cool: Medic24 02-09-2004, 04:50 PM I wouldn't sweat it. You could not have gotten more positve feedback. Good luck! Rahel828 02-09-2004, 07:56 PM Um, I mailed in my acceptance fee early last week. I'm not sure if it reached NSU. I've been trying to get a hold of them all day. I left voicemail and emailed them as well. Tomorrow's my "deadline." What if it hasnt reached them? The $250, $750, and $1K ones? I'm assuming/hoping these go towards our 1st year tuition? Does anyone out there know? DrQuinn 02-12-2004, 10:02 AM Originally posted by bryant how does financial aid fit into the scheme? or maybe how much do they help out? thanks QuinnNSU. Financial aid will cover all of your loans during medical school. The way I have it set up now, I will pay (after residency) about 700 a month for 30 years. I locked in my loans at an appalling low 1.4%, so I can put the money i WOULD pay to my loans in a CD and make more $! :) $700 a month might seem a lot but when you consider I'll be making $100-$120 an hour as an ER attending in 2.4 more years, its really nothing. The loan money you get from teh school (Stafford) is more than enough to live off of, and live nicely, as a matter of fact. Q, DO turkdlit 02-12-2004, 12:14 PM So whose got some info on buying cndos/apartments near campus? My real estate agent in Ft. I'll miss Alabama but I am really looking forward to some Florida sun! !! Robz 03-18-2004, 08:00 AM Congrats! 1max2nv 03-18-2004, 08:03 AM For those of you who have been accepted CONGRATS:) I was wondering if any of you chose NSU over some other schools which you were accepted to (if you could name them it would be helpful) and the reasons why. Im trying to narrow my decision down between nsu and nycom..both extremely good schools any input would be greatly appreciated etztamar22 03-18-2004, 02:47 PM Whoa--people are already hearing whether or not they got in? I interviewed on Feb 23, and they told me the ADCOM wouldn't be getting together to decide on applicants they interviewed nor doing any more interviews til March 22.Who has heard or intereviewed with NOVA since the day I did? I am just very anxious because NOVA is the school I really want to go to, and I made that very clear to the ADCOM when I was there. jmv10 03-19-2004, 05:40 AM I'm glad you got that news about the 22nd because they told me "sometime in march," so I've been anxious this whole month so far. You're not the only one who's waiting for an answer!! I interviewed on Feb. 11thl, by the way. I hope you (and I) hear good news! etztamar22 03-19-2004, 08:08 AM It took Dr.Chaffin four days before he finall answered me back.I had tried calling and emailing all week. He told me he was sorry it was so frustrating and he understood, but that the ADCOM decided not to meet again til the 22nd of the month. I was very disappointed because I had heard so many stories of people hearing from their school by only a few days later.Oh well, what can we do.I hope you and I both have a positive response as well--I really want to go to NOVA. sunystudent 03-19-2004, 10:59 AM Glad to hear that I am not the only one in this NOVA limbo! I was starting to worry!! I interviewed back in febuary and was told we had to wait unti the 24th of March to hear anything. I too fell in love with NOVA(like so many other students did) and made that clear on my interview to the comittee as well. It was the best school by far that I had visited. Unfortunatly I was told by a student close to the admission process that we are in the waitlist pool:( I was devestated to hear this but have started to come to terms with the fact that all of us that were possibly put on hold just waiting to see if we even qualify for the waitlist(seeing that there are many people already on it who interviewed way before us). THAT SUCKS:( :scared: All of us waiting should still keep our fingers crossed but come to the realization that (as the student put it)there is a slim to none chance of us actually getting a direct admission offer. My advise is to keep your hopes alive but send in your deposits for the other school you were accepted to so you do not loose your spot.I loved NOVA so much and hope that maybe the student was just FOS. It helps to dream:love: Hope to hear some good news from all of you (like me) who have bee on the edge of your seats for over a month. Lets keep in touch and keep eachother advised to any news(p.s I e-mailed Chaffin the otherday and he said we should know "something"by March24th Keep hope alive!!!!!!!:p etztamar22 03-19-2004, 01:21 PM Ok whoever told you that is full of balogna. Schools don't do interviews with the intent of putting students on the waitlist, no matter how late in the game. That would be a waste of their time and money as well as yours. They still have spots for accepting people, or else they wouldn't bother to do the interviews, and February isn't so late in the game.I sent my stuff in early and got offered an interview not long after that, back in Dec, for all the way at the end of Feb, so if I don't get in it isn't on account of them not having spots, but rather they just didn't feel it was a fit. Don't let that whole bogus theory of theyre only interviewing for waitlist, get to you, because I have been through this with people over and over, and it's the same thing, they interview who they would potentially like to offer spots to. Good luck though. iliacus 03-19-2004, 01:23 PM I'm heading to So. Have you heard of any places that are close to the campus and affordable? iliacus 03-22-2004, 01:00 PM Shsgrad, I think it would be a good idea to get there a few weeks before class just to get acclimated and not worry about hooking up the phone while starting classes. Lauderdale and of course the school, but a few days to see south beach and explore would be great :D There's lots a places next to campus. I'm looking for a roommate to split rent with etc... NSA914 04-06-2004, 07:12 PM Hey guys, I interviewed in late February and got put on "alternate hold" status in mid-March. Dr. Chaffin hasn't been able to give me much info, so I was wondering if any of you were on hold? And how long did it take to hear about whether or not you got in? I would really appreciate any words of wisdom. Also, CONGRATS to the Class of 2008! I loved NSUCOM when I interviewed. This new SDN design is kinda weird...we'll get used to it I guess... I'm also gonna be looking at places in rolling hills and university parc and such. HoodyHoo 04-11-2004, 10:55 AM Hi,I was wondering if you are talking about the condos at Rolling Hills? I was looking for a place there as well. :) hey, I think they are the condos at rolling hills. I'm not too sure because I did everything online after looking at some pics. I know it's at 3100 rolling hills drive. it's right next to a private golf course and you can see the dental school from my back porch....so it's kinda close i think. HoodyHoo 04-13-2004, 09:05 AM When you guys spoke with the dean during the interview, did he mention that NSU med students have won some east coast research competition over schools like Duke and Harvard?? I was just curious because it seemed a bit unbelievable, even though I assume he would not lie about it. :scared:  :D NSA914 04-13-2004, 11:09 AM Yea, he mentioned that to our group. He said that they usually interview several students before making the final decsion on who wins, but that they won immediately (with no student interviews) after the research committee saw that the students were all in "professional" attire. And, what he told our group was that they won in addition to schools like Duke and Harvard. I believe him. You're right, why would he lie? Besides, the school has a lot more going for it than that, so it's not that big a deal regardless. kristabel 04-13-2004, 11:59 AM When you guys spoke with the dean during the interview, did he mention that NSU med students have won some east coast research competition over schools like Duke and Harvard?? I wasn't getting down there till june. Then I found a 220 dollar roundtrip flight from Knoxville. (we just don't usually have cheap flights) That was it and I am going down May 21st. I need to get an apartment for my own piece of mind...but I was sure I would find an apartment in June as well...just maybe not the ideal one I would have wanted. I rented apartments before in Florida...in fact I am still leasing one in Orlando that I have been at since 2000. I never had to deal with a third party. Was it a private residence? Was your agent going to get screwed out of a comission if you went through directly? Usually they wanted a credit check...a job/schooling option to make sure you can pay the rent and first month+security deposit. At least your getting this done now. I am going to do leg work in after my finals and basically get off the plane, get in my rental car, and start visiting places. Litteraly, just like that. Right now I got a great list of places from residency info (http://www.residency.info/) and the list on the class of 2006 site. Then I'll start calling them and setting up appointments if I can. Of course...I'll make time in order for me getting lost to get there also :) HoodyHoo 04-22-2004, 09:29 AM I'm trying to figure this one out. During that time, we all take the Kaplan course (paid for by NSUCOM or your tuition money - whichever you prefer) so its really a good deal in the end. The M2s this year finished last week I think. Good luck finding apartments and moving. Crap crap crap. Thanks for the info. I have had a few ponderances about this. I have talked to others that have assured me I should have nothing to worry about but I am still the paranoid person that wants to see it in stone. See I have an apartment in Orlando since 2000, have a FL driver license dated Janunary 2002 when I updated it, my W2 forms are all from the Disney Corporation in LBV from 2000, sent in bills with my FL address on it and all that jazz. I am though finishing up an MPH degree at UTK and I forwarded all my mail here cause my mail in FL was getting delayed or missing. So, I was worried about that affecting my applications. The office of residency was really tough to get anything out of..even a reply. I finally talked to Mrs. Robison the other day and she explained a lot of information to me, assured me things should be cool, and let me know that I'd find out through the webstar sometime in June cause they typically don't send out letters. I believe Keren Perez is now handling applications. Thanks for the info...now I just have to finish getting my transcripts out before matriculation. :) Ca$h MaNi 04-23-2004, 11:40 AM Waaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....(u remember the beer commercial, right?) One of the clubs on campus sells scrubs with the NSU logo on it, which are kind of nice to have. You do not have to purchase those. YOu can if you want. They are drawstring bottoms, and otherwise just like regular scrubs. Ciel blue is that sky blue color----if you watch ER or Scrubbs, i think one of those shows wears that color. You know what Navy Blue is, and the Hunter Green is darker than grass, but not that military green. It is nice and bright, like an emerald. You can buy any scrubs you want from whereever you want. I believe our dress code still says they are supposed to be solid colors only (no prints), but I haven't heard of anyone getting in trouble for prints. Your choice if you want to risk it. I personally like Dickie brand scrubs. They are a little more expensive, but some of them are brushed cotton and softer than your average scrub set, you can buy cargo-type pants w/lots of pockets (i love that!) and i personally like the ones w/the elastic top. See, I'm short, and hate stuff on my waist, so i find the elastic top is easier to roll down to my hips. You can wear any shirt under your scrub top, or no shirt underneath at all. You can wear sneakers w/your scrubs. You can tuck in your top, or leave it out. Scrubs are like pajamas, so I wear them almost every day, unless I have something to do that requires real clothing (simulated patient exams, for instance). I hope that helps on the scrubs issue. I had gotten several emails from various people asking me, and when I saw the issue on here, i decided to pass on the info. Oh, and your equipment---don't worry about getting it too early. You will have plenty of time to buy your goods when you get here. The school will have a session set up so you can talk to the equipment people and decide what you want. Free scrubs?? i wish! Sorry, but unless the school is giving your class some special bonus, don't expect free scrubs. Any other Questions, feel free to ask. There are enough current students on SDN to help you out. Jill DoctorInSpace 04-23-2004, 06:59 PM Kristabel, The dissection kit---yeah, you need that before school starts, only b/c you start dissecting day 2 of class. Nice way to welcome you to med school!! You might want to pick up some extra blades--either size 10 or 21, whichever you prefer. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry---i'm just saying that on cadavers, blades can get dull quickly. I have a box of 100 21 size blades, and I have a bunch left. I"m sure I"ll be passing them on to your class. Ok, i think that's enough for the evening! Jill Robz 04-23-2004, 07:31 PM Waaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....(u remember the beer commercial, right?) Robz 04-23-2004, 07:47 PM Hey Robz, Since you seem to be a couple steps ahead of me on this - what is the loan entrance exam?? I went to webstar and it said that I was missing the authorization form and that I was not officially admitted to the program (which is just a matter of them receiving my transcripts, I think). But it didn't say anything about the loan entrance exam... now I'm worried I'm missing something. This financial aid stuff is getting confusing. :o Also, have the rest of you MSI's-to-be joined the M2008 listserve yet? People are talking about registering for classes already?!? Are we supposed to be doing that? I kind of assumed that would get covered in orientation. Anyway, thanks for answering all of my crazy questions! ;) Yeah I am on the list serve and thats how I knew about the white coat order form that was SUPPOSE to be with our admissions packet. I dropped the check off in the mail today for my two coats. I haven't read anything today so I don't know crap about registering for anything. I'll take it as it comes. As for financial aid? THere was like a couple of forms that they told me to fill out. One was an entrance exam for Sallie Mae who I take it was the main lender for NSUCOM. The entrance exam is here. http://www.nova.edu/cwis/finaid/information/online.html I have used Sallie Mae before so I am cool with them but I am not sure what to do if you don't want to use them. You also have to do a authorization form as well. The financial aid people told me that it was suppose to be faxed but I found it as an online form. Go fig. I filled it out and will follow up on it probably on Tuesday or so to make sure it is all good. It can be found here. https://www.nova.edu/sbin/finaidforms or a hard copy under MISC which you can fax to them at https://www.nova.edu/sbin/finaidforms I opted to do the online. We'll see if it works. Again I'll call on Monday. As for not ebing registered I assume that will be when all transcripts and the final 1000 fee are paid. I hope this helps you out a bit. I followed up with the health professions financial aid helpers and they told me awards will be around June/July. Robz 04-23-2004, 07:51 PM OK, the Scrubs---here's the deal. One of the clubs on campus sells scrubs with the NSU logo on it, which are kind of nice to have. Ohhhhhhhhhhh this was helpful info. Thanks. I still think I am going to buy 4 scrubs anyway. I really don't know how many pairs to own. I love scrubs and I'm a guy so I'll be wearing them every chance I can get. I was thinking of ordering through the forms provided so that I can get the logo but if they are cheaper elsewhere I may be temped to go there. Any options? DoctorInSpace 04-23-2004, 09:25 PM Robz, I would buy some through the order form....it is a nice way to support the surgical club and the logo is pretty cool. I own 10 pairs I think. One pair was from when I volunteered for the medical examiner, so that was the pair I used during anatomy labs. They were too big anyway. It really depends on how often you do your laundry, and how much variety you want. I have all sorts of colors---black, maroon, army green, ciel blue, beige, turquoise, purple, royal blue, navy blue, and regular traditional scrub green. I like variety. If you go to any uniform store, you can see the selection. If you want to wait until you get down here, I can tell you where one of the biggest uniform stores is in the area, and they have a great selection. Everyone I send there has been satisfied (or they haven't told me otherwise). And you may find them cheaper, but $25 a pair is pretty average. And think about it---you get an entire outfit for only $25!! You can't get an outfit of regular clothing for that cheap! I was thinking of ordering 4 through that form. I'm all about different colors and specs. Ooooooo. Even more outfits if I MIX them. I'll get a few and then hit the stores...hey an excuse for shopping! :) Thanks! DrQuinn 04-24-2004, 03:22 AM When I went to NSUCOM, I had scrubs from the hospitals I had volunteered/worked at previously... I didn't buy any. Its kind of a waste IMHO... and I thought the Surgery Club scrubs looked kind of goofy with the logo, but to each their own. It is a good way to support the club, I suppose. I would own 5 pairs, just so you're not doing laudnry on them that often... but you can wear them two days in a row without anyone knowing (shhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone). Not that I would do that, I dont' want to be stinky. The important things to do before you start med school is to just enjoy your time off. Sure, you'll have two or three months during your four years where you'll have absolutely nothing to do, but those are the last times in your entire life. Enjoy what you have now! Thanks! :) Lisa polo8250 04-24-2004, 09:02 AM I was wondering if most current students with financial aid went with the NSU lender (which is ?) for their stafford loans or went with alternate lenders. I heard that the NSU lender has a 3% origination fee whereas other lenders have 1% or no origination fee at all. In one of the finanical aid packets (or online) I also saw that one of the alternate lenders (Sallie-mae) deferred payment thru residency but the others were deferred until your graduated. This is my first time getting financial aid so I am a little clueless. I will be going to the financial aid office this week but I think hearing this info from current students would be helpful. Thanks ;) Fin-Nor 04-24-2004, 10:25 AM lisa, please keep us posted with what they tell you. :) AUdacious 04-24-2004, 01:48 PM www.accessgroup.org www.nowloans.org Check those out; a lot of people used them. Either way, I heard you either pay now and get benefits later or dont pay now and get no benefits later. If I could do it again, I would probably go with no origination fee (I have heard good things about nowloans). I have like 7 sets of different scrubs - one is from the surgical club. I like the set but it is a little big. They are good to buy but not being able to try them on kinda sucks so just be careful about buying all your scrubs there or you may look like a clown all year. :D War Eagle! Take University Drive North to Broward Blvd, and head East. At 441/SR7, you North. Go past Sunrise Blvd. At NW19th Street (before Oakland Park Blvd), you will make a right. You are in the class if you have done this and setup your following deposits. Obviously since the person has a NSU email account they are considered part of the class of 2008. The may 15th deadline is the pre-registeration fee and the date that AMCAS has set that all schools see where you have and haven't been acepted to and can start pushing you to selected a final school or drop your acceptance. NotShorty 04-26-2004, 01:38 PM Has anyone gotten their vaccinations through NSU's health clinic?! I have gotten little or no vaccines in my lifetime, and I currently don't have health insurance (woo hoo! :D ). I'd really like to avoid paying full cost for this, and I wondered if NSU shouldered any of the cost for their incoming students. Thanks, NS __________________ WhatEVA, I do what I want! -Eric Cartman DoctorInSpace 04-26-2004, 06:21 PM Not Shorty I do believe that the NSU clinic offers vaccines at reduced cost. They have a schedule of when you can get your Hep B shots. I'm not sure about the others (tetanus, DTaP, Hib or any other required vaccine). You should get something in the mail about the vaccines and getting them at the NSU clinic. If you want to call the student clinic, call 954-262-4100 and ask for Student Health. 1max2nv 04-26-2004, 08:08 PM anyone know when we could get health insurance through the schooL and how much it costs etc? DOit 04-26-2004, 08:14 PM I was interested in getting the health insurance since mine will expire at the end of May...so I was told that they are in the process of getting a new health insurance provider and until the schools picks the company it wont be possible to know how much it will cost and when you will be able to sign up. I hope they figure it out soon. AUdacious 04-26-2004, 08:34 PM Most people go with either Chickering or SOMA as far as I know but you can go with whoever you want; I dont know anything about a new health provider. I went with Chickering - as long as you go to the NSU clinic (which is between Cedar Key and the school so like two seconds away), your copay is waived but labs aren't covered. Other than the labs, I havent had any issues with chickering but I dont get sick often and go to the clinic for everything I need. http://www.chickering.com/ Chickering http://www.studentdo.com/ SOMA About vaccinations, ditto. I got all of my vaccinations done through the physician I shadowed before orientation. I remember that at the beginning of the year, they put up a schedule for people who hadnt gotten or hadnt finished their Hep B series according to last name to have it finished at the clinic but I dont remember seeing any info about other vaccinations and I think we had to have the others before orientation. I will ask around when I can. I would call admissions and the clinic to see what can be done and when. bgworm 04-26-2004, 11:00 PM Hey everyone, Been accepted in the class of 2008. Broward Mall has Burdines (now owned by Macy's anyway), Sears, Dillard......I believe.....and I can't remember of there is another one. We have a Bloomingdales around too, but i forget which mall. There is also a strip mall that has Old Navy and a few others that are pretty good. Believe me, you will have plenty of malls to choose from! We also have the infamous Sawgrass Mills Mall, which is miles long, and is outlet stores, so you get nice stuff for cheap. DoctorInSpace 04-30-2004, 08:32 PM Thats pretty cool. I can imagine that it gets to be a bit repetious doing that part of the ceremony what...20 times to get the class through? It sounds cool. What did you think of it? Yeah, 10 people at a time...so about 20 times through. I really enjoyed it. I had my parents, my husband, my brother, and two friends. I have the video as well as pictures. Afterwards, you have lunch at the school, and the parents/friends/family can stick around for a little orientation. We had lunch and then left. The White Coat ceremony is a great opportunity to get pictures w/your white coat, and your family is all gushing on you. Cheesy, but very sweet. If I sound kinda dumb its because I am used to big malls and shopping from when I lived in NY and again a little bit in Orlando. Being back in Knoxville for the last bit...they really don't have large malls or things like that. Its a mid sized city. I figured if you were that close to metro area there would be some great malls...plus you have the tourist population. I feel better now, that they are so close. DoctorInSpace 04-30-2004, 08:37 PM I've been to Maryville (close to Knoxville, right?) and there didn't seem like such great malls around......actually, not much of anything. Could you talk a little more about the malls? :) (you can tell I have priorites right?) Are they tiny malls or they decent ones? are we talking Macy's or Dillards? :) aww hell as long as they have a Babbages or Electronics Boutique I'm all good. :) Yeah we have great malls around here, I think someone mentioned Fashion, Broward, and Sawgrass. The Pembroke Lakes mall is close by as well and a little farther there is Aventura Mall in Miami (has some pricey deparment stores like Bloomingdales and boutiques). As for gaming stores all have EB and Babbages, plus we have Game Stops. In the strip mall right by school that has the Old Navy there is a Game stop as well. Robz 05-01-2004, 08:44 AM I hope people don't mind me asking too many questions. Now that I found my shopping I was wondering how the beaches are. When I drove down to NSUCOM from Orlando for my interview I spent very little time there. I basically drove down, got into my hotel, worked out and went to bed. I did though take about 30 minutes to drive cause I wanted to see a beach. I started driving south and east and driving right by the airport. I ended up in the docks districts. OOPS! Anyway, I found a Beach (started with a D. I believe) and since it was like oh...9pm in December it was deserted, dark, and cold. :) I got out...grabbed some sand....looked at the coastline with the lights of Miami....said...I saw the beach and got right back in my truck. So, I'm going down in May and I was wondering what some of the best beaches were. I assume pretty good ones since there is some serious advertising for Ft. Lauderdale beach and of course South Beach but I was still curious of a local observations on this. I'm thinking of having a drink by the beach. Yes....that would be so nice. DOit 05-01-2004, 09:10 AM You probably were at Dania Beach! I think your best bet in Fort Lauderdale would be... Las Olas. I live near Deerfield Beach (about 15 minutes North of Fort Lauderdale) and I like the beach in Deerfield (by the pier). I also like Delray Beach (further North). But I think South Beach is my favorite, but I dont always feel like driving down there. 1max2nv 05-01-2004, 09:51 PM hey wassup everyone....i've been looking for apts online n was wondering if any of your current NSU students would happen to know about these apts.... 1.lakepointe at jacaranda 2.laurals at jacaranda are these fairly good places to live....area/the apartments themselves fairly old?new? any insight will be appreciated DOit 05-02-2004, 01:19 PM Has anyone gotten their financial aid package yet? I am leaving to do my rotations in West Palm and my roommates need someone to take my place. We live in a house about a 12 min drive from NSU-COM down University and heading East on Broward Blvd. I got this house last year from previous M-IIs who were leaving for rotations and it was an upperclassman secret before that. The house is huge with a large living room, a den with bar (great place to catch college football, and yes you will have time to do just that) and not to mention a recently resurfaced pool in the back with a huge yard. The rent is $516 per month plus approx $100 per month for the Wireless internet, water, electricity, lawn, pool stuff. This is THE PLACE so act fast! You can move in the first of July. My two roomates are awsome. Brad is a surfer who graduated from Ohio State and head of Doctor's Outdoors and Axel is a former anatomy fellow and past president of the Student Osteopathic Surgical Assoc. Both are very knowledgable and can help you. So if you are a guy or girl who is looking for a great place to live and not allergic to Zoie, Brad's super friendly dog, give us a call at 954-625-2163 or email Brad at bschulte@nova.edu or me, Bryan, at bcurrie@nova.edu and we will get back to you asap. thanks. currie Robz 05-04-2004, 06:16 PM question for current students or anyone that knows. I hear that a lot of Fridays are clinical days. Does this mean you follow physicians in the area in their own clinics? Like shadowing? Or do you work in the health clinic that is adjacent to the school? (which I have never seen) I was just curious about the first year patient contact during didatic training. AUdacious 05-04-2004, 08:15 PM I think you are talking about "IGC". You pick between internal medicine, family medicine, or peds and then you are assigned to shadow a physician in that field at their office about six times during the semester. The office is somewhere in the area - I am pretty sure no one is assigned to the clinic (although you can shadow there on your own time). This semester, we went every other Friday (about 6 times this semester and about the same last semester), but I am pretty sure that they are changing the day so that it doesnt cut your weekend short. How much you get to do depends on you and the physician you shadow. Some physicians prefer you to just watch and some will let you do a lot but you generally have to take the initative. See you soon. DoctorInSpace 05-05-2004, 11:17 AM In addition to what AUdacious said, there are a few people who were assigned to the clinic at school, mostly for reasons of transportation difficulties. The person who runs IGC is willing to work with students in their placements. And if you don't get your first choice during your first year, she will help you out during your second year. AUdacious and I were assigned to the same doctor, and we loved working with each other, so we requested to be together again next year. We also had a great physician who spent plenty of time with us and allowed us to ask lots of question. See you all soon! Robz 05-05-2004, 07:53 PM MUHAHHA. Yeah I meant ICG. Could you expand on what was expected of you? Which type of medicine did you observe..FP,IM, or peds? Did you guys just shadow or was the physician cool and let you do things? AUdacious 05-06-2004, 09:46 AM IGC is a honors, pass, fail course - 100% attendance, a patient log, and a case report on a patient you saw are expected. DoctorInSpace and I were assigned to family practice with a D.O. about 15 minutes away. He was awesome; after every patient, we would go and ask questions and discuss the condition in his office. We got to see a lot and even saw a blocked Wharton's Duct which was on a quiz we had the following week in a different class. We also got to see a lot of OPP at his office. We only did basic things like wt, ht, temp, bp, pulse, respirations, and patient histories. We were allowed to do more, but he said it was up to us about how comfortable we felt doing things. He asked us if we wanted to do some OPP once but we didnt learn the technique until two weeks later. We listened to a lot of hearts and looked into a lot of noses and ears. Like I said, it is what you make of it. Yes, we couldve done a lot more but we really got so much out of just seeing a patient with him and then talking about it afterwards that I was pretty happy doing that. By the end of your first year, you know how to do a complete history and physical so you could do that if the physician says its okay. Samantha sheltonh@nova.edu AUdacious 05-06-2004, 09:54 AM I forgot to mention that one of my friends was a respiratory therapist before coming to medical school. The physician she shadows gets her to see a patient on her own and then she presents the patient to the physician. Then, the physician talks to the patient and goes over everything. Afterwards, the physician tells her what she missed and how to do things better etc. and then she does a complete writeup on the patient. She has really learned a lot from this. She also gives shots and helps explain how/when to take medications and how they work and all kinds of cool things like that. I can't imagine what the students who are nurses or who are really comfortable with their OMM get to do. Again, it is what you make of it. See you soon. Robz 05-06-2004, 10:24 AM Rock on I couldn't ask for a better description. Thank you. I was wondering about that. I am a paramedic and am quite familiar with talking to patients while not being nervous. The physicians I shadowed were really cool with me asking questions or them getting me to do things with a patients premission. I felt pretty special just shadowing...go fig! I was a little interested in seeing if they were pretty cool preceptors or not. You make it sound like a lot of fun getting to play with what you learn early in school. Yay! Yeah my visit ended up costing me around 240 and THEN i needed a titer for my heb B which I had the shots but didn't hvae documentation available. Yes I am immune and it cost me a whopping 75 bucks for that freaking test....which happened to be about 35 more than they quoted me for it. I can bitch or I can pay it and never do that crap again. I elected to pay it and just get my paperwork in. kristabel 05-10-2004, 09:57 AM Sounds like you got railroaded. Yes, I did, but I had the exact same thought process you did...I'll just pay for it so I don't have to deal with it anymore. The most expensive thing was the varicella titer, which I had done while I was in undergrad but I didn't have the documentation. So that was $57 I probably did have to spend. My immunization records show the first two Hep B shots, but I'm missing the last one. My mom swears I got it done, but I think I'm going to have to repeat the sequence (once I get to NSU and it's free). I was forced to have a lot of this crap done when I was in paramedic school before I got to do my hospital rotations. So I have been through this before and learned you get screwed a lot.....hense when I got my positive PPD....oh that pissed me off. Chest x-rays for life for me! Yay! Anyway, I was lucky to have pretty good documentaion of all my shots and chicken pox (varicella). This last physicial finally though has everything on one page. Now I can transfer my records to another location without having to drag everything out. I am trying to figure out why we needed two copies for our hospital rotations, you'd think the school would forward them on with our HIPPA approval. bgworm 05-10-2004, 10:08 AM All the vaccines cost me around 250 bucks. DoctorInSpace 05-11-2004, 11:07 AM As for the budgets and the book lists.....you will hear a lot from us soon-to-be M2s as to which books are vital and which are not. For biochemistry for example, I have never once looked in the required text book. Everything you need to know is give as handouts in lecture or is stated during the lecture. All required books are on reserve at the library, too. I think they budget books/supplies as over $6000.....that is way more than you will ever need. All of your diagnostic equipment (otoscope, ophthalmoscope, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, etc) will cost you less than $1000, and you will not buy $5000 worth of books. There are several books that are good for reference, and there are some that you need to have (at least in my opinion). DO NOT go out and buy all of the books on the list. You will be wasting your money. I just wanted to get that out there b/c I would hate for you to go out and buy a bunch of books that you will reference very infrequently, when they are at the library if necessary. When we get a little closer to August, you will hear a lot more from us as to which books are truly necessary. DoctorInSpace 05-11-2004, 08:52 PM Yes, I am on military scholarship, and get reimbursed for all required stuff. I bought some non-required/non-recommended and didn't get reimbursed, but they were more helpful than the required stuff. I didn't want to send in my transcripts and them turn around and want the damn spring semester. So, I waited until they were released on wednesday and I sent them out then. I'll call next week to make sure they were received. I just want everything in by june so my financial aid will get there...so I can pay for my apartment and school....and my video game habit. :) Oh and I found getting in touch with linda OR Margie is a luck of the draw type of thing. You jsut need to call linda 1139 and margie 1126 until you get one. Isn't that sad I know the extentions by heart now? Robz 05-13-2004, 11:38 AM So, I started to think about my transcripts and I wanted to know for myself which ones they have or have not received.....so I called and I GOT THROUGH ON THE FIRST TIME! but the system has been down all day and they can't tell me what they have or do not have yet. The fun continues. :) kristabel 05-13-2004, 11:48 AM So, I started to think about my transcripts and I wanted to know for myself which ones they have or have not received.....so I called and I GOT THROUGH ON THE FIRST TIME! but the system has been down all day and they can't tell me what they have or do not have yet. Wow! Congratulations on getting through! I swear some system or another is perpetually down, NSU might need some new or more IT people. When I talked to them today, she told two of three systems were available to her and one of them happened to include my transcript info. Have you been checking your NSU email? They email you when they receive a transcript, they just don't tell you which one they got. Robz 05-13-2004, 11:51 AM Wow! Congratulations on getting through! I was wondering what transcripts were missing so I can fix it. I would be happy if it was on the webstar. AUdacious 05-13-2004, 10:09 PM I know it is such a pain to track everything down; I remember how many times I called. You would think that it wouldn't be so hard to find out which transcript they need. Now that I am here though and see how hard they work, I kinda feel bad about how pissy I got when I wanted info NOW that they couldnt give me. Anyhow, they are working on getting everything computerized so that you can log on and check all this stuff and not have to deal with the phones so much. If you pm me with anything you are having difficulty with and why or have any suggestions for improvement, I will submit it and hopefully make the process easier. They are doing a serious overhaul of the entire process though so at least they are putting forth the effort. I basically kept a list of questions so that I would remember everything when I called and wouldnt have to call a million times to get a few questions answered. Next Friday is our last final, I am counting down the seconds! See you all soon. Samantha sheltonh@nova.edu NSUCOM Class of 2007 jd star 05-14-2004, 11:38 AM Hey Class of 2008... Congrats to all of you! A few quick things for you... If anyone is still looking for housing next year, I have a room available in a 3bed/2.5.bath townhouse that is within 5-10min walking distance from Nova's HPD. The house is pretty big... each bedroom has its own balcony and a walk-in closet, you would share a bathroom with me, there is a washer/dryer, and downstairs there is a brand-new kitchen and nice new tile floors, and two living areas... plus a front porch for a table or something. Plus there is a pool and tennis court and a clubhouse, and it is right across the street from Bally's. Rent is $500/month starting as close to June 1st as possible plus utilities. I am 23 and will be an M2 next year, and I live with my brother who is 26 and a financial analyst, and also a friendly cat. Please email me at jenndiam@nova.edu if you are interested or want to see pictures. About health insurance - I am the president of SOMA (Student Osteopathic Medical Association) for next year and we offer health insurance for you guys. Once I am done with finals next week and get everyone's addresses, I will be sending some info to you about their insurance. I'm not sure if it is better or worse than the school's insurance (I'm still a baby and on my parent's insurance), but it's pretty much up to you to see which one will be better for you. Plus, if you get the SOMA insurance, the club looks good and we get some money from it... and the better the club is, the more parties we can have for you (esp. Osteoblast, a party on the beach during your orientation week) and the more we can do with the club (like going to Conventions and things like that). So anyway, look for some info in your mailbox coming sometime soon... Last but not least, enjoy your summer and your free time (trust me). If you have any questions about school/what to expect/where to live/etc., feel free to contact me at my email address. Congrats again on your acceptances! :) ~Jenn Diamond NSU-COM M1 (almost an M2 - whoo hoo!!) :D SOMA President (2004-05) Robz 05-14-2004, 12:06 PM They haven't gotten to us yet about any health insurance. They are suppose to work that out and also give us our first semester schedule pretty soon. Fin-Nor 05-14-2004, 01:15 PM well, im about to head out from texas and trek all the way to florida tomorrow to find me an apt... hope it's sunny b/c im bringing my swimming shorts. :) kristabel 05-14-2004, 01:20 PM Good luck!!! Let us know what you find - I'm not going to get down there until June 19. Have a safe trip and have fun ;) Robz 05-19-2004, 06:27 AM ACK! I can't believe we let this thread get down this far. So, I'm bumping it up! I hope bryant found some great places to live at. We look forward to hearing about it. So, today I am finally happy that I got all my paperwork finally in, including my transcripts. Now when I log on to webstar I see that I have everyhting cleared and have been admitted to my degree program. Hopefully, this will make the transistion of financial aid an easy one. I keep seeing that it has me as a nonresident until they finally get though all the residency applications and get to me. (I only put it in the first week of janunary  ) I keep looking at that 52K and realize I am probably going to pull it all out cause I really have no freaking clue how much money I will need. I have done my budget....and its ugly. I mean ugly. Maybe I am shooting high on the budget but when I add in my cell phone, car payment, rent, insurance, and all the other jazz that is associated with life and not just school its a little scary. :scared: Maybe others feel the same way. So, here I am at my internship for the day and all I can think about is getting on my plane at 6:00am on Friday to go to Fort Lauderdale to search for an apartment. I'm ready to blow this popcicle stand! In fact I have right here in the cubicle with me...a nice big map of the area provided by my hotel I stayed at during my interview. Hmmmmmmmmm. Yup. I can tell I am going to get a lot of "work" done today...:) School is a little more than 2 months away now! Fin-Nor 05-20-2004, 07:22 PM ... I hope bryant found some great places to live at. We look forward to hearing about it... well, if this is going to be of any help to anyone... there are still quite a few places around for both 1 bed room and 2 bed room apts. just go up and down the streets near and around the school. prices that i found to be the norm: (these are not with the discounts that they talk about if you are an NSU student -- if that even makes a difference) 1 bed room ~$800+ ----------- - 800sq ft. - 1 bathroom - some will include washer and dryers and some will not 2 bed room ~$1000+ ----------- - 1000-1200 sq ft. - 2 bathrooms - some will include washer and dryers and some will not i dont know if they give this out ot everyone or not but if you mention that you'll be attending NSU, they should knock down the application fee and the deposit for remodeling or something to that effect and usually they give you a free month's rent off -- half off your first month and pro rata (think this was the term they used) the rest into your lease. i might just go for a condo instead. we'll see... :p Robz 05-24-2004, 07:38 AM ouch...I just wrote a book on this thread...and it got deleted...I'm a bit upset now Fin-Nor 05-24-2004, 08:03 AM how did it get deleted? sorry to hear your time wasted. Robz 05-24-2004, 09:27 AM how did it get deleted? sorry to hear your time wasted. It got delayed when I hit the post button and poof it was gone....I'll write another here in a minute or so, I wanted to post to the listserver for a roommate. :) It just fustrating cause it was the third time today a webbased email program has lost my long email...UGH Robz 05-24-2004, 11:12 AM ok....let me try this again with a little more condensed version.. I just got back in from Ft. Lauderdale this morning. Ahhhhh.... Let me tell you it was pretty sweet. I also had some fun adventures. First off...in apartment hunting there are a lot of places around there. I mainly ended up searching Davie and Plantation. The places really close to NSU like sunforest and cedar key are well aware that they are in prime locations for students and are in high demand. I can't remember if sunforest gave a small NSU discount but the others in the area gave nothing cause they know they will fill the apartments. With that being said I liked Poniciana Lakes just north of Cedar Key but they have a waiting list for July and only had an apartment for mid June which without financial aid is hard to do. If your willing not to have a walking distance type of apartment then you can usually go and find a nice deal. A month free and/or application fees waved are some of the normal things. Some have microwaves...some don't. Some have washer and dryers....some don't (like sunforest). Or they might be a stackable duo. The traffic around the area is kinda busy but I have been commuting for years now and a 8 minute commute for me is nothing versus the 35-40 I have been doing. To save me a 1000+ dollars a year in rent? Hell yeah I am going to do that. Robz 05-24-2004, 11:21 AM For those of you still unfamiliar with the area here are some highlights I found. 1. NSUCOM is close to a lot of things and when you get on 595 it links a lot. 2. People drive like sh*& around here....practice defensive driving. 3. Broward Mall is very close being just north of the campus and it is a nice shopping center. 4. Sawgrass Mills is a little farther away like 10 mins and it is a freaking behemoth of a shopping center. Absolutely insane on how big it is. I saw shrek 2 there on sunday. (good flick..I still have the hero song stuck in my head) 5. Beach is close...like 20-25 minutes close. Thats from driving to your feet in the sand. Ft. Lauderdale is a nice beach and parking is 1.75 an hour...get your quaters ready. 6. Miami is about 30 minutes away to downtown. This was on a light traffic day on the weekend...I am sure the morning commute on 95 blows monkey checks if you had to do it. 7. I was suprised that NSU was mostly open to just walk around. I thought the building would have been closed on the weekend. 8. There is a lot of crap in this area...you can get almost everything you want. You just have to find it. Thats the trick since most of the places are small mall like and they all have tons of palm trees covering the buildings 9. The quaterdeck across from the campus has a good cajun burger and the chairs swing outside. 10. Los Olas Drive is a really plush shopping and dining area in Ft. Lauderdale. Its nice and goes well with the multimillion dollar mansions around the area. 11. OH...and cheeburger cheeburger has the best milkshakes around. I actually learned this living in Orlando but they closed that store but they have like 3-4 in Ft. Lauderdale....so go there for a great burger and shake. ok....thats about a synopsis of what I lost in my pervious post. streak 05-24-2004, 07:09 PM Hope you give up your spot! Fin-Nor 05-24-2004, 08:21 PM i dont think that will be happening with him Robz 05-25-2004, 10:58 AM Gee! Can you feel the love here? I already turned down a spot a Meharry (in Nashville) so I could have stayed in Tennessee. I'd have to think real hard about UT if I got in off the waitlist....I'm somewhere around 60th now that they have taken 19 people or so..... Thats a crap load of people still... I'm going to go play Halo now. streak 05-25-2004, 11:52 AM ROBZ, I can't fault you for turning down Meharry. UT would obviously make you loose some sleep. ABout our driving down here, if you see someone beeping you and you see a I'm a native bumper sticker, I just gave you some luv! Yeah I wasn't impressed with Meharry at all. Yeah...the traffic down IN ft. lauderdale blows but hey..I have driven in some of the biggest cities in the US including LA and NYC.....I can honk with the best of em..... Robz 05-26-2004, 02:39 PM is anyone else interested in getting a laptop? if so what kind? Coca Cola 05-26-2004, 02:51 PM Robz, I think I am going with an IBM with wireless capabilities. I plan on setting up a wireless network in my apartment. I have heard Dell has slightly better prices and good tech service. However, if someone has already been dealing with tech support for their new laptop I don't know how well the product is after all. Cola Robz 05-27-2004, 12:19 PM Its been quite on these boards lately...not like the email where 8 thousand people are posting their IM names. Anyway, I am definatly going to be getting a laptop. First there is wireless ability at school and I'm going to wire up my apartment with a wireless router. I like wi-fi. Teh major reason is if I am forced into a class and I HATE it...I'll log on to SDN or do some other studing in class. Make the best use of time that I can. I'm probably going to go with a dell and customize the hell out of it. I want video ability and DVD burning ability as well as decent Wi-Fi of course. I'm debating the different types of processors and video options as I am more unfamiliar with the laptop versions of these. Coca Cola 05-27-2004, 04:04 PM Robz, The processor called centrino is the hottest thing out now. However, you will pay for this mobile technology. It uses less power, which means longer battery life each day and less heat. AMD is more affordable. Intel also makes a chip called Pentium 4m. The m is for mobil but it should not be confused with the centrino processor. The pentium 4m is more affordable than the centrino but uses more power. Cola Robz 05-29-2004, 03:05 PM Bump...we deserve to be higher up! I figure since I replied to 6 other threads I might as well bump this up to see whats going on. doc3341 05-29-2004, 05:10 PM Hey everyone, I was just accepted to NSU's Master of biomedical science program, so Ill be taking a lot of the M1 courses with all of you. I look forward to seeing you guys soon! Robz 05-29-2004, 05:23 PM cool man...I don't know a lot about that program. Does it give you a good shot at being an M1 next year, even retaking the same courses? DoctorInSpace 05-29-2004, 06:21 PM doc3341--Congrats!! That is wonderful news. Enjoy your summer AUdacious 05-30-2004, 09:04 AM Congratulations doc3341; I am glad that it all worked out for you. See you soon. doc3341 05-30-2004, 09:29 AM Thanks!! And I look forward to seeing all of you at NSU! Robz 06-01-2004, 08:36 AM I know that I posted about getting a laptop but I read on another forum that some schools offered an extra discount if you went with dell or gateway though them. I just checked this out on NSU's website and they offer 10% on top of whatever deal they have going. How sweet is that? Now I really want my financial aid money! NotShorty 06-01-2004, 01:01 PM Is it true that we have to buy Palm Pilots for school? Actually, I've heard that they are worked into tuition for the upcoming year. On a related note, has anyone at Cedar Key been able to access NSU's wireless network from their apartment? I thought I heard a long time ago that the network was accessible up to a half mile from the campus. Thanks, NS AUdacious 06-01-2004, 06:58 PM Robz, On top of the discount, I've heard that if you keep your receipt then you can have that amount added to your total financial need so if you are getting full aid and need every penny possible, you might want to look into that. NotShorty, Good to see you around again. I was wondering if the wireless reached CedarKey when I moved in last year. An upperclassman walked all over CedarKey with his laptop to see if he could get a connection anywhere for me. He said that unfortuantely, the wireless does not reach any part of CedarKey. I, however, have never tried it myself. See you all soon. Robz 06-01-2004, 07:28 PM Robz, On top of the discount, I've heard that if you keep your receipt then you can have that amount added to your total financial need so if you are getting full aid and need every penny possible, you might want to look into that. Ohhhhhhhhhh...I really might look into that. I am TRYING to keep costs down but seriously I want a good laptop and if I get a great discount on it??? Damn I am all for it! I might give a call about that. Thanks. doc3341 06-01-2004, 07:59 PM is there a limit to how much we can spend?!?! Robz 06-02-2004, 08:41 AM yes the school gives you a budget and that is what you can take out of the bank.....what AUdacious was saying is that we could possibly show the financial aid people the reciept for the computer and they can allow you to add that to your total budget. I.E. - the budget for an out of state incoming M1 is capped at 52K. You don't have to take it all but thats the most you can take in a year. Even though I picked NSUCOM over other schools, I am on the wait list for University of Cincinnati, which is 10 minutes from my home, even though, i'm considered out of state because I live in Kentucky. I feel the same way though, if I was accepted at the last minute, I would have to give it some thought because that is the school that I originally wanted to go to. Although, like you, I have already made living arrangements, and have paid 2,000 in deposits to NSUCOM. Not to mention that I have a friend who was also accepted who I will be rooming with at Sunforest. He'd be pretty pissed if I decided to go elsewhere. That's why I'm kind of hoping that I don't get accepted at UC and then the decision is easy. The beaches, beautiful weather year round, great campus and beautiful women help me to stay strong with NSU as well. Same boat...... different waters. Thanks for the words....there is a LOT of factors for me playing in these decisions. There would be serious discussion about the whole thing on my part. Right now I am playing plausable deniability. :) There are a LOT of pluses for me and NSU as well to think about too, plus I pretty much am getting everything together this month for my big move. Robz 06-06-2004, 08:05 PM Let's not kid anyone, both DocMiddy and Robz will give up the 2 grand and forget the roomate. If I'm pulled off the alternate list, I will cough up my deposit elswhere. For me though...I am closer to family and friends at NSUCOM...also UT is in memphis....I know some people like it there but I am not really a big memphis fan. I do though like that school. I have said before lots of things to think about....tuition also plays a big role. I'll worry if it ever happens......right now I have enough stress. streak 06-07-2004, 04:48 AM Two years ago I drove up to Memphis for Elvis' 25 anniversary of his death. l liked it! I can understand that your under alot of stress. I have the opposite problem in that I have to move from FLA, my home state. I don't understand why NSU is pulling from out of state when it is funded partially by my tax dollars in FLA. By the way, you really don't go to the beach much here as a resident. You're not on vacation. I don't think there will be anymore great movement on waitlists so we all have to do what we have to do for school. |
