I have studied for the MCAT Jan 2010 - Aug 2011. I know the materials very well, I even tutored my friends who got 30-34 in the MCAT. My practice AAMCs ranged from 28-33, and Princeton Review exams ranged from 27-34. I scored in the real MCAT 10PS / 6VR / 8 BS. I never scored less than 10 in PS or BS in any of my practice exams, and I averaged 7-8 in verbal, I was not all there in the test day and was extremely tired in BS section. I have almost all 4.0 in all my physics, chemistry, biology, and organic chemistry classes. My overall and science GPA is 3.2, but, the though the latest 60% of my credits (Junior through my first graduate class), I have 3.7 GPA, and took advanced physiology classes. Basically, I have shown that I am capable of handling heavy academic load andf have a very strong personal statement and application overall. So my questions is do I have a chance at US medical schools or even St. George Medical School, taking in considerations that it is late this cycle. I know that if I took the MCAT again I would be very close to 30, if not 4-5 points higher, but I don’t want to wait to take it next year and apply for the next cycle. I just want to know if I would be wasting my time applying to Us schools. I would only consider M.D programs, no DO. anything you guys say is accepted, you can say whatever!

Well, the general consensus on SDN is MD>DO>>>>>>>>Caribbean grad in terms of residency opportunities. I would give that some serious thought and search the forums for match lists. I know there's a really good one in the DO Pre-med forums.

As far as your MCAT goes, in terms of MD, you're pretty much screwed unless you're URM.

Honestly man with a 3.2 sGPA and a 24 on the MCAT with low scores on 2 of the most important sections BS and VR, it's just not going to happen this year boss. You need to retake the MCAT and score something along the lines of > 32 to have a shot at MD schools especially since it's this late in the cycle. You might have a shot at SGU. However, it's not a guarantee the 2 guys I know that got accepted to SGU had similar GPAs as you with MCAT scores >26. So it's really hard to say you can give the Carribeans a shot if you're desperate to start school in the January session. It would be advisable to just retake and reapply next year. Good luck

Nope no MD unless you do the Carribean. If you want to get in somewhere this cycle I highly advise you to apply to DO schools. Even in that case you're not guaranteed to get in with your score. But DOs have the same opporutunities as MDs in all areas (except probably in research, although some DO schools like Michigan and UMDNJ are very research oriented). I don't know if you'll have a less chance of getting into allopathic residencies, but if you do well acdemically (slightly better than MD counterparts?) you should have no problem matching.

If you don't want to do DO or the Carribean then you need to spend some serious time studying for the exam and retake it. I used the schedule here on SDN and I highly recommend it. I went from a 26 the first time taking it to a 32. It's great really. Also, of course next time apply early. And if I'm reading it correctly your science and cGPAs are 3.2? That's low for most schools unless your MCAT score will be higher. I would look into a Post-Bacc or SMP and get that up ASAP. Try to do ones that have linkage.

No chance at MD. You need to retake the MCAT again and try to get into the mid 30's. You also will need a SMP or a post-bacc, since your GPA is really low.

MD or DO will not happen for you. If you're looking into MD only, you need at least a 32 and an SMP. If you're looking for DO, you will need to retake to get a cGPA of 3.4 and close sGPA. An MCAT of 28 should be enough to take your chances at any DO school.

Best of luck.
