I am thrilled that I have been extended an opportunity to interview at Notre Dame at Baltimore on November 11. I have been reading about the founding Dean and some of the professors. WOW! Sounds like a great school.

does anyone know how long it takes for them to send you the supplementary application after they receive your pharmcas application?

My pharmcas application was sent to them 10/30 and I haven't gotten it yet. I just got a general email saying they had gotten my pharmcas application.

Thank you

I was accepted here and Shenandoah. I didnt really get to see much of Baltimore but from the way the faculty and students were talking about it it seemed like a great lively place with lots of opportunities. The only thing i would say i dont like about the school is that its not very well established yet but its on the right path!

Notre Dame has a very seasoned faculty and this is not the first program started with Dr. Lin. She stated that she has been on the acreditation end as well. She said there are thirty standards they are judged by and Notre Dame is well on track in all thirty.

I was also accepted at Notre Dame on Dec. 1 and I am thrilled about it. This is a program that will provide a great atmosphere, great support and uphold high standards.

Hi Everyone:

First of all, congratulations to those you finished their interviews and got acceptances! I will be applying to Notre Dame this winter break since I seriously did not have time during the semester.
I have some quick questions regarding this school. Please help if you can and Happy Holidays!
1.) How are the supplemental? Are there more than one essay questions?
2.)For those you went on campus, Do you know if we need a car to get around?
3.) How much is tuition per semester?

Thank you so much!

Currently I'm a P2 at the school, so i'll try to answer some of your questions.

1. The supplemental is like other supplementals from other schools. If I remember correctly, there is a question about professionalism, but it could have changes since i applied.

2. Having a car is really helpful for school. especially if you live offcampus. Girls are able to dorm at this school, but the commons foods isn't really the best to say the least. You do need a car starting 2nd year though for IPPE rotations.

3.tuition is slightly more that 30k/yr

4. There are a lot of places to live around school. It just depends on your preferences. However, i don't think a lot of people live toward downtown Baltimore because of price and size. They do usually start a FB group soon (Feb or March) and they post some different options around the area such as Belvedere Towers, Twin Ridge, Carlyle, etc. It also is a place to find roommates if you wanted as well.

Feel free to ask any other questions

Hi!

First of all, THANK YOU so much for the quick response. Merry Christmas !
I have some follow up questions.

1.) If tuition is >30,000/year, does that also apply to out of state students?
2.) I will probably wont be able to buy a car soon, so I was wondering is it possible to get around during my first year without a car? Is AC/bus transit accessible?
3.)Can you inform me know about your experiences thus far as a student? What you like about the program thus far? What you dont like?

I really value anyone feedback. I am very interested in the school, but I dont know anyone there. Thank you for your help as I really really appreciate it.

1. It is a private school, so it cost the same whether you are in-state or out of state.

2. There is public transportation but it isn't as reliable as you would think since the school is not directly inside downtown. It's totally doable but inconvenient.

3. Personally I like it here a lot. This school teaches and prepares you thoroughly with its curriculum and the faculty is extremely nice and approachable for the most part. Sure, there is a lot of work given at this school but there is always going to be people complaining wherever you go. What I don't like at this school is the mandatory attendance.

Hope this helps!

Congratulations on your interview invite! as far as the interview, be mindful that it is open file, meaning that your interviewers have seen your application (PCAT, GPA, letters of rec, personal statement) so make sure you KNOW the information you provided them. I had a great experience with the faculty during the interview itself. Honestly, out of all the 3 interviews I went to, my interview here at NDM was the most comfortable for me. The interview seemed more like a personal conversation, rather than a formal interview. But you still have to prepare for whatever questions they may ask you. The only downside with the interview day is how the day dragged. We had many short "down times" between each section of the interview day. Other than that, the experience was relaxed and very informative. Oh, and no essays! good luck!:)

the campus is located in a nice area of Baltimore. I was really impressed with the nice houses around campus. The campus itself is very nice. Nice bricked buildings, and so many grassy areas. I didn't get to walk around campus though, because I had a flight to catch right after the interview. The only building I was able to see and get a tour of, was Bunting Hall, which is the pharmacy school building. It's a newly built building that the SOP just moved into last fall, so all of their equipments, classrooms, laboratories are new. The faculty and students were very friendly and nice. During my trips to the restroom, at least a couple of faculty or student would stop me to wish me good luck on my interview (i think the suit gives it away).;) Good luck on your upcoming interview!

This question is for current student:

I have an interview invitation and Mr. Shattuck wrote the following: "During the months of January, February, and March it is prudent to be aware of the Baltimore weather forecast; In the event of a winter storm please check Notre Dame of Maryland University’s website for updates on closures or delays. Follow instructions indicated on the website and do not arrive at the School of Pharmacyearlier than the times indicated on the website for opening. If the College is closed do not report to campus."

Can anyone tell me where I can find this information on the school website? I have been browsing for a while and cannot find it. Lastly for those of you who interviewed last year around Feb-March, did you guys experienced delays? How did you work it out with Mr. Shattuck?

Thank you!

To be honest, I'm not really that sure where you can find that information either. They usually send a sms to our phones if the school will be closed or have delays. Since this school is small, there usually will be closures or delays on days that it snows. I'd say you'd be fine if you're aware of the weather and stay in contact with Mr. Shattuck

Hi Chronice:
Thanks! I have some quick questions since you are a current student.
How is the lab class? Are they long compare to undergraduate chemistry lab classes?
How do you feel about the current curriculum? Are lectures mostly power point presentations or do professors also use chalkboard to lecture?

Thank you!

chronice
01-19-2012, 11:04 AM
Lab is lab haha.. some of the labs can be short while some can be long. The positive is that there is only 2 semesters of lab and then you are done forever unless you choose to continue on that path.

Personally, I like the curriculum here. It exposes you to many fields within the pharmacy profession. They really prepare you and are willing to help you succeed in school.

All lectures are powerpoint.

Hi Chronice:

Thank you so much for your prompt responses!!
I have this really urgent question that I want to ask you.

Under Notre Dame's pre-requisites, it states the following:
"It is unlikely that Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology at community colleges will meet the pre-requisite requirement and applicants must take these courses at a 4 year institution."

How strict is this statement since I took Physiology at a University, but will be taking anatomy at a community college since I graduated and it is much less expensive to take anatomy at a CC.

THANK YOU!

I can answer this question since I had my interview already and was accepted last week with the same problem. Basically during the interview when they go over your individual pre-reqs, just let them know that your gonna take anatomy at a CC. For me, Im gonna take physio at a cc and they had a list of approved cc that offer anat. and physio. And if they havent approved it, try to bring in a copy of the course description/syllabus and the dean will look over it

Since it was an open file interview make sure you know all your info on your pharmcas and supplementary applications well. For me, it felt like a conversation they just wanted to get to know me ... very laid back so nothing to be nervous about! General questions like why pharmacy? can u see yourself living here? why notre dame? good luck!

As cliche as it might sound be yourself. They have read your file to a T to be honest so be sure about what you provided Pharmcas with and please do not lie because they ask you questions based on your responses. A specific question they asked that could easily throw someone of who didn't prepare accurately is: What do you not like about the pharmacy profession. So ponder about that and think up a genius answer :-). You're welcome in advance

Hi all,
I'm still waiting for my acceptance letter :(. I dont know why it's taking them so long.
Do you guys know if the school will be accredited for sure or not? I really love the school and I want to go there but not if they dont get the accreditation.

My apologies for my curt and blunt wording...
First of all have you ever considered the obvious possibility that you never got accepted to NDM SOP ? I mean you can't be waiting on an acceptance letter if you never got accepted. If I were you I would call the school and figure out why it's taking so long to hear of your outcome.
Secondly... ACPE can only grant a school full accreditation status once that school has graduated its inaugural class. Therefore, NDM SOP will be fully accredited once it first class graduates which I believe is this year 2012. So the question you should be asking is 'when will NDM establish full accreditation not if they will ever be fully accredited'.
Quite honestly the accreditation statues should be the last of your worries being that your not sure if you even got accepted. I would be figuring out how to get more interviews to other schools if you already haven't.

Questions!!

1.) For the matriculation papers/deposit forms, are you guys planning to send them together in a pack to Mr. Shattuck?
2.) I notice that there is two deposit that the school asks for...are you guys planning to write two checks and send them in ALL at once...OR will you be sending them one at a time? (any recommendation?)
3.) The school requires submission of our medical information, however, what exactly does that entail...the school does not really specific what they want.

Thank you!! BTW, congratulations to those who recently got accepted. See you guys in the FALL!

I really didn tour the areas well when I had gone for my interview because I was in a rush and I really want to start looking for a place to live ... Any suggestions?

Hi Wsbkp08:
I had my interview in February and overall it was a very pleasant experience.
I had a one to one interview with a faculty member. My recommendations to you on how to best prepare for the upcoming interview are the following:

-Make sure you know why you are pursuing a career in pharmacy? (the classic "why pharmacy" is guaranteed!)
-Why Notre Dame in particular?
-Know your application thoroughly. Make sure you have examples of your leadership skills.

There are no on-site essay :)
Lastly, the interview takes about 20 minutes but you will be there from 9-1ish because there will be Q&A, lunch, financial aid session, tour...etc.

Good luck to you! My best advice is to be yourself!!!
