Hello sawtella!

How wonderful you want to teach. To teach USMLE, ideal candidates will have completed medical school, obtained licensure, finished residency and should have some teaching experience at a medical school and/or hospital. Perhaps you may qualify to teach other courses or assist the USMLE classes in a different way. You have a couple of options - you can visit your closest Kaplan center and inquire there (let me know if you need a contact name), and/or you can see about other opportunites, such as:

Out of curiosity, what do you pay your USMLE teachers?

Hi QofQuimica,

It varies depending on what courses are taught, what venue, etc. Most of our faculty stay with us for a long time; the teaching is most rewarding, as is the compensation! : )

All right. I'll be getting fully licensed this year and finishing residency two years after that, so I'll come back then to get the specifics. ;)

Good plan. Get some experience teaching, too, if possible, and best of luck with this chapter of your career!

I actually do have quite a bit of teaching experience, including a ten year on-and-off history of teaching MCAT and most of the other professional school exams for Kaplan. My PhD is in chemistry, and I've been a gen chem and organic chem instructor as well. Never have done official hospital-based teaching though beyond teaching medical students on the wards and giving an occasional lecture. Anyway, it's all a bit premature, as I have no time to teach USMLE classes as a resident even if I already had all of the necessary qualifications. But at some point, it might be fun to do. FWIW, I love Conrad Fischer's teaching style; I used his tapes for Step 2 and just bought a copy of Master the Boards for Step 3. :)

This is great news! You already have a strong background so understand what's entailed. It's a very challenging job, but also completely rewarding helping so many people along their path to becoming practicing physicians.

Dr. Fischer has an amazing teaching style - not one you'll soon forget. People recognize him the world over. You should find MTB very helpful. Best of luck on Step 3!

Please stay in contact!
