I interviewed in October and Western has never shown up on my AASDAS western has never shown up in my aadsas as well but I wouldn't worry -- my interviewer told me off the record that I was in. I'm assuming some may be contacted in a different way or it may possibly just take longer for our aadsas accounts to be updated. so keep your fingers crossed because there's still a chance!! Golfguy 12-01-2011, 09:00 AM The AADSAS update is for real. Yoda87 12-01-2011, 10:31 AM Got a call from Western not too long ago, making it official! They said they would send out the acceptance packet with all the info today and it should arrive within a week via snail mail. pearlywhites88 12-01-2011, 10:40 AM I just talked to Vanessa and she said acceptances are coming via snail mail... :xf: So for those of us who don't have western on our aadsas it looks like we have a little more waiting to do! aliss4 12-01-2011, 10:50 AM what about phone calls? Won't they call us today? dentwise 12-01-2011, 11:03 AM Hey guys. I spoke with Western - the letters went out today, and thus will arrive in a few days. Also, possibly faculty members will be making phone calls today to those applicants that got accepted. No updates on AADSAS. Congrats to everyone who got accepted and good luck to all that are still awaiting the decision. Ragekage 12-01-2011, 01:19 PM Aadsas update is real. I also got a phone call this morning! I got it 3 days ago. It's not like a huge packet, more like 4 papers. One that you send back in that you accept with the deposit. moohandojun 01-07-2012, 09:37 PM I got a call from Dr. Bradley Henson yesterday around 4pm about my acceptance. However, I haven't seen anything change on AADSAS and haven't received an email from Western U yet either. Has anyone else heard recently? jdrummerjd 01-09-2012, 08:36 AM I got a voicemail from Dr. Henson on the 6th (3 days ago) for my acceptance. I have never had westernu show up on my aadsas and it still does not. He said the packet should be on the way this week. Interviewed oct 22nd. moohandojun 01-10-2012, 03:20 AM Oh phew! I was so worried because no one else wrote recently on this thread and because I didn't get an email or have it show up on my aadsas, but I never had westernu show up on my aadsas either. I called Western today and they said they sent out packets this morning and should be arriving by the end of the week. Congrats! Interviewing there on the 4th of Feb. I interviewed at ASDOH and they told us how many deposits they had in when we interviewed so hopefully Western did the same! Stoico 02-04-2012, 10:20 AM Hey Western Peeps, I wish everyone good luck on today's interview, Ill be talk to you at lunch today :). For people waiting to get into Western, don't worry to much there is still plenty of time to get in. I interviewed last year in mid October and didn't get in until the end of May. There is hope trust me. CedarZ4 02-13-2012, 12:29 AM I am sorry to hear that, but keep your chin up! As others have said, you still have a chance as they offer acceptances all the way into May. What was the method of contact? dentwise 02-13-2012, 08:32 AM I spoke with Western and they told me that at this point in time approximately 55% of the class has been filled (keep in mind that the numbers may fluctuate, thus may not be totally accurate). The committee is deciding on whether to add any additional interview sessions. Candidates that had already interviewed will be notified by email or phone on the decision of accepted/rejected/alternate. We have to wait a bit longer. Good luck to all. cutetooth 02-13-2012, 08:37 AM I spoke with Western and they told me that at this point in time approximately 55% of the class has been filled (keep in mind that the numbers may fluctuate, thus may not be totally accurate). I was wondering if anybody knows how many ppl got accepted from the alternate list last yr.. And how many ppl r waitlisted this yr.. Anybody? shinyMIRROR 02-13-2012, 10:28 AM i got wait listed via letter in the mail. Thought it was a rejection letter at first.. WHY ARE THEY ADDING MORE INTERVIEW GROUPS! why why why!! the waiting game really puts a toll on your nerves.. :scared: 2012IHOPE 02-13-2012, 02:28 PM When did you receive the wait list letter/when was it postmarked? And when was your interview? shinyMIRROR 02-13-2012, 05:14 PM my interview date was feb 4th and the letter was postmarked on the 9th of feb!! So crazy how fast it was. But I know of someone who got a rejection also with the same interview date so.. keep your fingers crossed. 2012IHOPE 02-13-2012, 05:19 PM Just checked my mail and I also have a wait list letter. I interviewed in November. I'm really happy it wasn't a rejection. Good luck to everyone...check your mail!!! drsicem 02-13-2012, 05:38 PM I also interviewed on the 4th and got an alternate letter today... I hate the waiting game! I really hope they do not do another round of interviews! Has anyone got accepted yet from that interview group? smk0327 02-13-2012, 06:10 PM I also interviewed on the 4th and got an alternate letter today... I hate the waiting game! I really hope they do not do another round of interviews! Has anyone got accepted yet from that interview group? Just wondering how many ppl were at the feb 4 interviews? Darce101 02-13-2012, 06:38 PM Waitlisted. Nov 5th interview. cutetooth 02-13-2012, 07:02 PM It almost seems like everyone received alternate letter. Did anyone who had an interview receive rejection letter?? Darce101 02-13-2012, 07:18 PM It almost seems like everyone received alternate letter. Did anyone who had an interview receive rejection letter?? It would be nice to know how many waitlist positions are offered, considering the letter they sent us says the waitlist is not ranked. unexpected 02-13-2012, 07:41 PM I also received the alternate letter today. When I talked to Western last week, they told me that no rejection letters has been sent in yet. What they told me was that if by this week, you don't get an acceptance or alternate letter, you could be in the rejection group. However, they are still deciding if they should hold another set of interviews and that is why they're holding on to the rejection letters.... but I really wonder how many people are placed in the waiting list... burgh2011 02-13-2012, 07:53 PM Just wondering how many ppl were at the feb 4 interviews? I was told 84 people interviewed on Feb. 4th. No news here yet... drsicem 02-13-2012, 08:07 PM Does anyone know how many people were put on the alternate list? dentwise 02-13-2012, 08:38 PM I also received an alternate status letter today and I interviewed in November. Darce101 02-13-2012, 08:40 PM It looks like it's going to be tough getting off the waitlist. cubs 02-13-2012, 08:59 PM I also received the alternate letter today. I got a request for interview today. They scheduled me for what they said was the last and only date that they are holding interviews- Feb 24. I imagine that at this late date, interviewees will be told of their fate rather quickly and alternates will start to be accepted shortly after.... burgh2011 02-14-2012, 11:11 AM I am an alternate, got the letter in the mail today. cutetooth 02-16-2012, 08:26 AM It would be nice to know how many waitlist positions are offered, considering the letter they sent us says the waitlist is not ranked. I've called them yesterday and they said some were also rejected... But they have ~200 ppl on the alternate list. It seems like it will be tough to get off the list... So sad.. Darce101 02-16-2012, 08:57 AM 200 ppl?! That's insane! cutetooth 02-16-2012, 09:07 AM Yeah.. But I am not sure if that's the total # of letters sent or total # of ppl who accepted the alternate spot.. They are doing more interview as well so... Iono... drsicem 02-16-2012, 09:29 PM I really don't understand why they did this! I would rather have waited a little longer for them to make a decision than put everyone on the alternate list! Good luck everyone! cutetooth 02-17-2012, 10:27 AM Wonder how many ppl got off waitlist last yr. anyone knows? ridi604 02-21-2012, 10:03 AM Just wondering if there's anyone who hasn't heard back from the Feb 4th interview? 12345cj 02-21-2012, 10:39 AM I've called them yesterday and they said some were also rejected... But they have ~200 ppl on the alternate list. It seems like it will be tough to get off the list... So sad.. Considering that It's a new school and it's private, I'm sure most people who get an acceptance from another school will give up their spot at Western and they will move though a large portion of the alternate list. I already declined my spot so that's one more for you guys. Good luck! Dent4GA 02-22-2012, 12:35 AM Hi, I interviewed on Feb. 4th as well. They told me in the interview that we would either know something sometime soon, or it could take awhile before a decision is made. They called me on the 9th and let me know I was in. I didn't think I was going to hear anything for quite some time! I wish the best of luck to everyone! :) CedarZ4 02-23-2012, 11:13 AM I've called them yesterday and they said some were also rejected... But they have ~200 ppl on the alternate list. It seems like it will be tough to get off the list... So sad.. Not exactly sure where people are getting their numbers from, but when I called the admissions office today, all they said was we can expect to hear back as late as August. When I asked in regards to the size of the alternate list, they said that they are unable to provide that information to the public. Forgot to ask about weather or not their class was full - I will probably call back later today and ask. Tirekicker 02-24-2012, 07:37 PM Hey guys, I just interviewed today in the final group. I was quite impressed. I really, really hope I get in. We were told that we would hear back in two weeks from today, and if not, to call them. She said they won't be able to give you their decision over the phone, but I guess they'll mail it to you again. I don't know if the two weeks applies only to us who interviewed today or to the people who haven't heard back. As far as seats, I didn't get a straight answer, but I think there are at least 20 seats still open. Also, I was told that everyone got in off the alternate list last year (though I would be amazed if they started out with 200, even if many declined). I hope I'm not setting anyone up for disappointment (myself included). :-\ cutetooth 02-24-2012, 10:11 PM Hey guys, I just interviewed today in the final group. I was quite impressed. If you don't mind me asking, who told you everyone got in from alternate list last yr? I am waitlisted there. I would love it to happen again this yr... :/ Anyways, thank you for the info. It really helps. Dent4GA 02-26-2012, 07:55 AM Has anyone else here heard back from any February interviews? Darce101 03-02-2012, 10:27 AM Anything new on the Western front? Tirekicker 03-02-2012, 11:28 AM This is killing me. Every time my phone rings, it's a mad race to answer in time, only to find out it's a telemarketer. Any day now... CedarZ4 03-02-2012, 12:38 PM I'd give it another week before I really start freaking out - As you have said Tirekicker, they will get back to the February interviewers within 2 weeks, and it has only been 1. Unfortunately, I interviewed back in October so I guess it doesn't apply to me  Keep us posted - Good luck! :xf: Tirekicker 03-02-2012, 04:45 PM I just got the call. I'm in!!!! I'll see you guys in the fall. Good luck everyone. :) OCDFlosser 03-04-2012, 06:51 PM I'm in!! :D CedarZ4 03-04-2012, 06:52 PM Congrats you two! -OCDFlosser, when did you interview? Back in February or pre-Dec1st? journeybegins 03-04-2012, 08:28 PM I'm in!! :D Congrats! Were you on the waitlist or is this the first time that you got a decision letter/call of acceptance? I'm really hoping for Western. LLdental 03-05-2012, 05:40 PM Yay! I got the call too! See you guys in the fall! :D Tirekicker 03-05-2012, 05:55 PM Congrats guys! Dent4GA 03-06-2012, 07:45 AM Congrats everyone!!!! Look forward to meeting everyone in the fall. Make sure everyone joins the facebook group too. :) uwkicker21 03-07-2012, 08:22 AM Hey I was wondering who gave you this information about the alternate list being 200 people? When I called and asked the same question they told me they couldn't give out that information. CedarZ4 03-07-2012, 08:29 AM As I have posted previously, I have called as well to ask and they mentioned that they do not give out that information. Not to say the poster is lying, but 200 on the waitlist seems pretty high, even for a newer institution with a larger class size. Also, TireKicker mentioned how he was told that last year, all alternates were eventually accepted. I can't imagine them accepting 200 students but that certainly is relieving (if true) TireKicker- who mentioned to you on the acceptance rate of the alternate if I may ask? cutetooth 03-07-2012, 08:35 AM Hey I was wondering who gave you this information about the alternate list being 200 people? When I called and asked the same question they told me they couldn't give out that information. It was me. Instead of calling the advisor directly, i called the admission's office. I think i may have talked to their assistant?? Because it seemed like advisors never gave out any answers.... Anyways, It is possible that the person I spoke to gave out an inaccurate info so don't buy it 100%. :) ridi604 03-07-2012, 08:46 AM Just wondering, did anyone receive an acceptance off the waitlist yet? CedarZ4 03-07-2012, 08:50 AM Just wondering, did anyone receive an acceptance off the waitlist yet? I have not heard anything. They started accepting the February interviewees last week. Assuming they did not give out more interviews, alternates will start this week (Friday) at the earliest (doubtful) if not later. OCDFlosser 03-07-2012, 02:14 PM Congrats you two! -OCDFlosser, when did you interview? Back in February or pre-Dec1st? My interview was on October 1st. Feels like so long ago! OCDFlosser 03-07-2012, 02:16 PM Just wondering, did anyone receive an acceptance off the waitlist yet? I was put on the alternate list in January, and got the acceptance call last Friday. Didn't expect it at all. Especially since I didn't call them or write any sort of letter of interest. Funny how that works! good luck everybody! Especially since I didn't call them or write any sort of letter of interest. Funny how that works! good luck everybody! I stand corrected - I thought February 9th was the first date people start getting alternate notices. So I guess that means alternate acceptances for February 9th people will come in about 2 weeks or so (if the time between notice and acceptance are around the same) I guess we all just have to hold tight :xf: OCDFlosser 03-07-2012, 05:57 PM As I have posted previously, I have called as well to ask and they mentioned that they do not give out that information. I think they do have about 200 people on the alternate list. However, like 150 of these people aren't even considering Western because they've been accepted elsewhere. You know how some schools say "Respond to this letter to hold your place on the alternate list". Western didn't do that; so now 200 kids have this letter sitting on their desk collecting desk, while they're planning their futures at some other school. Heh...just a thought. Please clarify - Did other people not get a "respond to this letter to hold your place on the alternate list" mail? I had to fill a "form" out and mail it back to the school. Also, I guess what you're trying to say is that they mailed out 200 requesting alternate placement, not necessarily 200 responded with yes. OCDFlosser 03-07-2012, 07:40 PM I'm a little confused. My mom just called me and told me I was on the alternate list when it came in the mail. I got accepted last week, so.....perhaps it's not necessary, really. What the heck.. CedarZ4 03-07-2012, 07:47 PM Hmm, odd. I guess they first just decided to put everyone on the alternate then realized later that the list got out of hand and decided to have people send in forms. But as you said, heck, you got in, and that's all that matters  Hopefully, within the coming few weeks, I'll be hearing good news as well :xf: It was a phone call, right? Edit: I too was on the October 1st interview date. Wonder if we met, hmmm uwkicker21 03-07-2012, 08:27 PM I think they do have about 200 people on the alternate list. I was thinking the other way around that 150 replied they wanted to stay of the list while the other 50 were going else where. I'm trying to figure out which letter I got-- for my neighbor couldn't figure out and she said the time was given as to when I should reply back. I've already decided to attend another school, but just curious! :) I'm a little confused. Please clarify - Did other people not get a "respond to this letter to hold your place on the alternate list" mail? I had to fill a "form" out and mail it back to the school. Also, I guess what you're trying to say is that they mailed out 200 requesting alternate placement, not necessarily 200 responded with yes. uwkicker21 03-08-2012, 07:02 AM It was one week I think. I can't remember exactly CedarZ4 03-08-2012, 07:46 AM I don't have the letter with me, but I think that if the letter was from January, you did not have to respond. However, letters that were postmarked February 9th had a form that needed to be filled out and mailed back. If I recall correctly and from what uwkicker says, I think it was a week after the date of the letter (which was February 9th for me and many others) cutetooth 03-08-2012, 09:14 AM For ppl who got accepted last Friday... CedarZ4 03-14-2012, 04:44 PM Did anyone just get an email confirming their status as an alternate? I just did. Ditto - I don't think it is a confirmation though as much as it is a, "Tell us if you are still interested", hence, the survey. That way, they can refine the alternate list to a smaller number and eliminate those who are on the waitlist but don't intend on attending. As shinyMIRROR has pointed out, maybe we can expect acceptances rolling in soon, maybe even as early as this Friday! :xf: uwkicker21 03-14-2012, 04:53 PM I just got one too. I agree with CedarZ4. I think they are consolidating the alternate list to people actually still interested in attending. I believe they will be reviewing the alternate list tomorrow and making calls possibly tomorrow or Friday. drsicem 03-14-2012, 09:22 PM I also got the e-mail, I hope they are able to make the list a little bit smaller and hopefully get out acceptances soon :). Got me excited, too! It is good information to know though, regardless. I think this year it's actually cheaper than last year...? The e-mail said it was like $60,000 per year? If I recall, it was $68,000 last year. I could have made that number up though, so don't take my word for it. It's good to know that there is some movement, though. Maybe tomorrow or Friday? :xf: Edit: I think the $68 number I quoted was including equipment, so tuition appears to have been unchanged. dentwise 03-21-2012, 06:16 PM I got the same email. I wander when the deposits are due for people that were granted an acceptance, unless that deadline had already passed. There could be potentially some movement around that date based on the responses from those candidates. Maybe there's a deadline for the 2nd portion of the deposit? I guess that I'm not too familiar with that portion of the process. 2012IHOPE 03-22-2012, 08:08 AM I think the schools will be able to see who has put down more than one deposit in April. If someone is holding more than one place at a school, the schools are allowed to un-accept them and offer the spot to another student (I think they give them some kind of grace period, but I don't think it lasts very long). Hopefully we hear something soon! Dent4GA 03-22-2012, 12:32 PM The next deposit due is on April 14th, and is another $1000 on top of the first deposit. Although, the recent acceptances have all been post-Dec interviews. Nothing on the pre, like myself. Regardless, good luck making a decision! How long do you have to respond to Western? If I recall correctly, it's something like 15 days right? Also, not to sway you one way or another but a few +/-s that may help you make the decision easier. I personally loved Western. Fantastic faculty and really state-of-the-art facilities. Being in California is also a plus. On the other hand, Tufts is a more-established institution that is accredited. It probably has a "better name" and "prestige" because of this. I can't speak for the faculty or facility because I didn't have the opportunity to interview there, but that is something to keep in mind. Not to mention, I don't remember if Tufts is in Boston but I know if it's not, it's pretty close. So it's not like you are choosing MidWest vs. California. Good luck  Keep us updated. CedarZ4 04-05-2012, 10:22 PM First time I been in California was on my interview. However, from what I recall I think people mentioned that Pomona is not the best place to live. However, there are a few nearby places (I really can't tell you what they are off my top of my head, maybe a quick google search) that is more friendly and relatively cheap. So I know they are available. If I'm not mistaken, Ontario is pretty far? At least 30 minute drive. Not sure if you feel comfortable commuting 30minutes every day. I know I flew in from Ontario and my drive was 30+ minutes. This may be another + for Tufts, since it is in Medford (not Boston, I just looked it up) and that is a pretty safe town. woolloo 04-05-2012, 10:32 PM First time I been in California was on my interview. From my visit to Pomona, Ontario, and Loma Linda 2 months ago, I would say that Boston is a more vibrant city with a great public transit system than either of those three cities in my opinion. I stand corrected. Thank you for the clarification woolloo. I just did a quick Google search and saw Medford. I would have to agree in terms of location wise, Boston (since that we clarified Tuft is located here and not Medford) is probably the best given the options. This makes sense since it is a pretty big and popular city. The "NYC of NY" and the "LA of CA" if you will. Although, location is not the only thing that needs to be considered. Prestige (especially if you plan on specializing) and curriculum are just as if not more important. Again, I can't comment on Tuft but it is something to keep in mind. Since you are attending Tufts, maybe you can give some advice to TCN. May help him/her make his/her decision easier. woolloo 04-05-2012, 10:56 PM I stand corrected. Sort of, but I also agree with drhygiene's advice for tcn79 on the 2016 ****The Official Tufts University Class of 2016 Acceptance Thread**** (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=871281) : wow! that's such an incredible story...really puts into perspective the idea that you never know what may happen. Just as an opinion b/c I got into Western and BU and chose Western I would say Pomona is a much nicer area to be with family. I noticed in your pre-dents profile that you have kids and I think Boston is a much harder city to raise children in. Pomona is a nice very quaint and safe area and Western is an amazing school! I know Tufts has an excellent curriculum but at the expense of distance from family plus all those flights and the hassle of moving so far away I would just stay close. Best of luck in your decision and hopefully I see you at Western next year! :) Relocation is not that easy especially with a family, but it's ultimately up to tcn79 to choose a place that shall meet his needs. CedarZ4 04-05-2012, 11:16 PM Good advice + read  Ultimately, it is TCN's own decision. I just wanted to try to give as many perspective as possible. This is definitely a big decision, and we wouldn't want one aspect that seems like a big deal at the time to sway him into a direction he will regret later down the road. Then again, both schools are terrific and you will become a dentist regardless so you can't really go wrong with either. GL deciding. Hopefully the rest of us will hear something soon. Who knows.... My bet is actually on the 4th one. They don't have a ranked waitlist, but that doesn't mean they won't rank you when they choose which student to select. That is to say, they get an "unranked" pile of waitlist applicants, then unofficially rank them to accept. It will be an interesting read though if you can pull up the thread. At least it's something to do while we wait. Tomorrow (or today rather) is Friday! Hopefully we'll be hearing some good news! :xf::xf::luck::luck: Haha I agree! Here's the thread I was referring to. Are you subscribed to this thread? You're awfully quick with the reponses :) http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=600897 CedarZ4 04-26-2012, 11:20 PM Haha I agree! Here's the thread I was referring to. Are you subscribed to this thread? You're awfully quick with the reponses :) http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=600897 Are we not all? Why do you think I'm up at 2AM in the morning? Hoping for some movement on this thread  Joking aside though. Skimmed through the thread and looked at what Peerless said. Looks about right... April 17th was the second deposit for that year (this year it was April 16th if I recall correctly) He said that they accepted all 64 deposits for their seats, and what that means to me is that they filled up all of their seats (64) and everyone has put down a deposit for those seats. As one person drops out, they will pick one from the alternate. I believe this year they have 79 seats (there was some discussion about this in earlier posts on this thread) In 2009, they had 80 alternate applicants. So, what this means is without me rambling anymore...It would appear they are following the same trend. So all of their seats are full now (let's say, 79) and as one drops out, they will pick one off the alternate. Since they have a larger class size, I would imagine the alternate spot to be larger as well (guessing maybe 100 students?) Peerless doesn't seem to mention anything about where he got the "pull names out of the lottery" from though. He just mentioned he went on a tour but doesn't tell us if it was a counselor, a dean, a current student, etc. I'm not saying that it can't happen, it may very well be, just that as you have said, take it with a grain of salt. Edit: An interesting thing that I noticed that is sorta related is that Peerless appeared to have been accepted by Western for the 2009 cycle from off the waitlist. However, he still re-applied for the 2010 cycle and Western was one of the schools he applied to again... He was accepted to 2 other schools this time, but not Western. Wonder what's going on there. Really makes me question the legitimacy of what he is saying though. However, without background story I can't say that he is lying either. So we'll see. fakemcsean 04-27-2012, 01:14 PM Is WesternU class full? Anyone know? Darce101 04-27-2012, 02:52 PM Are we not all? Why do you think I'm up at 2AM in the morning? I believe what happened was that he was waitlisted at both UOP and WesternU. Knowing that a waitlist + rejection @ UOP practically guarantees admission the following cycle, he applied to UOP. I'm sure he added WesternU and a few other schools on his list as a backup measure. arjay 04-28-2012, 12:34 PM I just took myself off the waitlist. accepted at another school. I hope it helps your chances random people still waiting. It doesn't seem like the class is full, because if it was I think they would tell us. I'm ready for the wait to be over!!! fakemcsean 05-07-2012, 05:58 PM Any acceptances recently or anyone call admissions office to find out how many spots are available as of today? fakemcsean 05-09-2012, 01:26 PM Does anyone know when was the second deposit due? Washingtonite12 05-14-2012, 10:15 AM There should be a seat opening up for someone out here! I got accepted to the University of Iowa so I had to drop my seat at WesternU. Stay by your phones! 2012IHOPE 05-14-2012, 11:42 AM Thanks for the update! Congrats on your acceptance!! Darce101 05-14-2012, 07:50 PM Western is showing up on my AADSAS as of today. 2012IHOPE 05-14-2012, 08:18 PM Mine too. It just says wait listed. journeybegins 05-15-2012, 12:04 AM I noticed on Western's Facebook Class of 2016 that people have been added over the past month or so. I just wonder what that means, and if they were actually acceptances since the second deposit? Time will tell with these things, I suppose. :xf: Darce101 05-15-2012, 12:58 AM Some of them are current students looking of roommates. So it's not entirely accurate. fakemcsean 05-15-2012, 01:33 PM does anyone call admissions office rencently to find out some info? CedarZ4 05-15-2012, 02:33 PM Just a hunch, and not to work everyone up (including myself) but maybe.... Waitlist = Acceptance on Friday? I know last year and years before that they used ADEA update to notify students of acceptance on December 1st. If I recall correctly, "Please Check Back on Dec1" meant acceptance, and for others who were not accepted on December first, Western did not show up on their list. Just a guess. :xf::xf::luck::luck: Darce101 05-15-2012, 02:42 PM It could be true. But if everyone on here is receiving the same status, then I don't see it as likely. I just don't see them filling so many spots in one day. But we shall see. CedarZ4 05-15-2012, 02:46 PM True - or, it could be the opposite. Everyone with Waitlist = Rejection? Although, it is pretty late in the cycle... very late. I don't see them getting any more applications/interviews so any open spot can only be filled with waitlist students. And rumor has it (from previous years), Western likes to keep a decent number of seats open (as opposed to filling their class, then fill drop-out with waitlists). If this is true, then everyone here getting accepted might be possible. We have about 5 (or less) students who post frequently on this thread who is on the waitlist. That isn't too too many students. But again, we shall see. I take it on no one has called or anything? CedarZ4 05-15-2012, 03:11 PM I just called. They didn't mention anything about AADSAS, but I was told that there is no timeline and we can expect to hear back up to time of matriculation. (No surprise there). However, interestingly enough, she stated that notifications will be sent via mail. Maybe now we can get some  and not freak out every time our phone vibrates? :D CedarZ4 05-15-2012, 03:22 PM Random off-topic question: anyone know where Briana Sanders (Admissions Coordinator/Advisor) went? 2012IHOPE 05-15-2012, 03:46 PM I emailed her a few weeks ago and she responded. Why what happened? fakemcsean 05-15-2012, 03:51 PM Hey Cedarz4, did they mention about how many opening spots are remaining as of today? Darce101 05-15-2012, 04:10 PM They don't disclose that info. Sucks, I know. But there's something to be said about not knowing. Kinda gives you hope ;) CedarZ4 05-15-2012, 06:02 PM As Darce101 has mentioned, they don't tell you. However, she did say that when students drop out, they will pull someone from the waitlist - which implies that the class is already full? Whether this is true or not, who knows. In regards to Briana - I normally contact Briana and when I went to look for her number on the Contact Us page earlier, she is no longer listed there. Tried Googling her and she's not even on the WesternU Website anymore. Guess she moved elsewhere? drsicem 05-15-2012, 10:46 PM I hope we are able to hear something soon!! I wonder if we will really hear by snail mail or if they will still call us?? fakemcsean 05-16-2012, 05:55 PM Any acceptances? lekso 05-18-2012, 12:48 AM As Darce101 has mentioned, they don't tell you. Tried Googling her and she's not even on the WesternU Website anymore. Guess she moved elsewhere? Don't lose your hope. I know last year someone got the acceptance late in the process, like a month before school started or something. I know waiting is the worst part but there's always hope. In regards to Brianna, she no longer works for WesternU admissions office. She is now a part of the dental school's administration staff. she was proctoring one of our exams yesterday. shinyMIRROR 05-21-2012, 03:09 PM thanks lesko, it really means a lot. Waiting around is so exhausting because you literally put your all in hoping today is the day.. your words on this forum gave me and a couple of others encouragement, so thank you. :) CedarZ4 05-22-2012, 02:37 PM I just had a question not really related to Western but sort of. I went on the ADEA portal to look at the status for WesternU, and realized that you can no longer sign in to ADEA. Is my 2012 cycle application deleted, and I can't access that anymore? I have to wait until June 4th to create my 2013 application, or what's the deal. If anyone know, please chime in. Thanks! On a side note, I guess that means Western will probably not be updating via AADSAS () as I have speculated before. shinyMIRROR 05-22-2012, 03:01 PM i was able to sign on to aadsas without a problem.. CedarZ4 05-22-2012, 03:33 PM That's peculiar... Where I would normally sign in, instead of blanks for my Username and Password, there is a link to "Register for DENTPIN" This is what it looks like for me, unless I'm doing something wrong. http://i47.tinypic.com/2zflh05.png 2012IHOPE 05-22-2012, 03:35 PM I'm seeing the same screen...no login area at all!!! Just to know what to look for since they mentioned they will be snail-mailing and not calling anymore. Tirekicker 05-23-2012, 11:32 PM If I remember right, it was a standard envelope. Are either of you interested in the summer prep program? http://www.westernu.edu/lead-summer-prep Tirekicker 05-26-2012, 01:11 AM This is the information that was emailed to me back in March: The SMSPP course has been designed for the student whose prerequisite anatomy course had limited access to the human body or for those that want to have a refreshed understanding of the human body before the academic rigors of dental school start. The program provides a preview of Gross Anatomy and Head & Neck Anatomy. DMD students in the program will also receive an introduction to Biochemistry/Genetics, Microbiology/Immunology and basic patient Palpation Skills. In addition, DMD students will attend a special mini-course which is an Introduction to Dental Terminology, Cariology, Materials, Radiology, Periodontics, Oral Pathology, Anatomy, and Dentition. The five-week program will be held on campus June 18th - July 20nd, 2012. The cost of the program is $750.00 and this price includes the required textbooks and materials. I am taking it because it will give me some exposure to cadavers, it will be a good review, it will give me a chance to try their tests and see where I'm at while exposing me to some of the teachers, and, most importantly, it will get me used to the pace of dental school before it counts. Darce101 05-26-2012, 01:19 AM You definitely have me sold. I'm just not sure if I can make it by June 18. I do have experience dissecting cadavers from an anatomy course last year. I'm just hoping its enough. allenhoang 05-26-2012, 07:51 AM Congrats Darce and Allen! That's awesome. Doesn't it feel good? :) I look forward to meeting you guys in the fall. Tuesday!! :xf: x2 fakemcsean 05-26-2012, 11:46 AM is class full as of now? So they are sending acceptance letters, not phone call or email. CedarZ4 05-26-2012, 12:12 PM We'll never know if they're full or not. When I called them last week and from this thread, it would appear they are only sending snail mail without a phone call or e-mail. However, it is important to note that the 2 who responded on this thread were both based in California. DrSicem from Colorado and myself from New Jersey (I just checked my mail), we haven't gotten anything yet. This could be either because they are only accepting California residents now, or the letter has gotten to our part of the country yet (it did take them 2 days to get them in-state). fakemcsean 05-26-2012, 12:44 PM Cedar, Did you talk with an admission counselor or a person who is in admission office? CedarZ4 05-26-2012, 12:47 PM Admissions Counselor. In regards to Roni, I haven't received the letter yet (obviously) but I'm pretty sure it's by USPS but again, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also, didn't you withdraw from Western? Tirekicker 05-30-2012, 02:31 AM The clinic has 76 chairs which is why they admitted 76 last year. This year however, they are only admitting 68 or 69 to leave a couple of chairs open for the specialists. drsicem 05-30-2012, 08:43 AM I don't know that anyone besides the admissions committee knows this for sure, just like we don't know how many people are already accepted or how many people are on the wait list. I pulled out the notes that I took at my interview and I wrote down that they were accepting 72 this year, but I'm sure they could have changed their minds since then too! Just Peachy 05-30-2012, 01:01 PM Blue = Correct and agreed  Red = Incorrect, although I do wish. According to previous years, more than 50% (around 60%) of students are California residents. It's not that they give preference to CA residents, it's just that more CA residents apply than non-CA residents. Just a numbers game as far as in state vs out of state goes. Also, just FYI, it's my understanding that they pull people off the waitlist who resemble (as far as numbers, volunteering, etc) the applicant who gave up their seat. Good luck to everyone! CedarZ4 05-30-2012, 01:02 PM As this has been discussed before, no one really knows how many seats they have until the stats get published next year. However, I was actually told at my interview (but this was back in October) that they were accepting MORE than the 76 seats that they have. They told us that (I forgot what they said) it will work out even though there are more students than seats. On that note, I just checked my mail and nothing on this coast. CedarZ4 05-30-2012, 01:04 PM It's not that they give preference to CA residents, it's just that more CA residents apply than non-CA residents. Also, just FYI, it's my understanding that they pull people off the waitlist who resemble (as far as numbers, volunteering, etc) the applicant who gave up their seat. Good luck to everyone! While it may be true that more CA residents apply than non-CA residents, another thing to keep in mind is that they are more likely to accept CA residents because CA residents are more likely to accept the acceptance than OOS due purely just do distance. In regards to how they pick people off their waitlist, I have heard that as well. However, just like the number of seats available, no one knows for sure. I know I made a post earlier with the 3 or 4 different possibilities. 1) Completely random 2) Applicant most resembling the one who dropped out 3) "Best" applicant in terms of scores, ECs, LORS, etc Just Peachy 05-30-2012, 01:36 PM In regards to how they pick people off their waitlist, I have heard that as well. That I don't know - sorry. :( I looked at the Facebook group though and there are 32ish people that I know for a fact are current Western people. There could be more - I don't know all of the first years. So that leaves 60ish that could be the new class (if all in the FB group are still planning on going to Western). I would imagine that they have tentatively filled the class, but people still have time to change their minds, not submit the next deposit, etc. Everything is fluid until classes actually start in August. Someone in my year got the acceptance call in late July, so don't give up hope! |
