I have a cumulative 3.3 and science 3.18, DAT AA/TS/PAT 21/21/19.
My senior year I got straight As, and I emphasized this in my personal statement, along with working 20-25hrs/week all through undergrad, doing research, volunteering, and taking leadership positions. You can bring that low gpa up -- WORK HARD!! :luck:

And the 100 hours of shadowing must be a suggestion, not the rule... I have 50

I don't think anybody who interviews gets rejected. I think you go to the waitlist if you don't receive an acceptance at first. Keep the office updated on your courses/volunteer hours/observation hours/desire to go to NYU! I'm sure decisions will be rolling out all month long (and in the spring for the waitlist)! I'm pretty sure that the scholarships are all tiny. Like $8,000/year. I mean, yeah, any little bit would help, but it's like pennies compared to the $100,000 per year price.

I had a low 3 for gpa, in fact, less than a 3 for my BPCM. They will seriously question you if you are lucky enough to interview with them. Nevertheless, I was accepted on 12/1 at midnight!

If you haven't graduated ugrad yet, do everything within your power to pull those grades up. If that is not possible, then my next advice to you is to never give up on your dreams of becoming a dentist.

Wow. Congrats. Do you know what the scholarship was based on? Need/merit/URM/etc.? Or did they give you a specific reason as to why you were given the scholarship?

glad to be part of the NYU Class of 2016. apparently I posted on the wrong NYU Class (2015)

even though orientation is not till August 22nd (I believe), I wanted to get to know more of the school through SDN. I am fairly new here but I am curious to meet fellow other SDNers regarding the pro's and con's of NYU and why you guys choose this school.

for me Im from the midwest so it would be nice to be near home, whereas my other school is in the Pacific northwest.

wow you have a good memory. I haven't decided yet. those are words from couple current USC D2 and D3 so I have to check the validity, but Im kind of buying it 'cause I go to school at USC and I know how the alumni network works for us. who knows, I might end up showing up at NYU orientation :)

Aren't you pretty much guaranteed a spot @ NYU if you are in BA/DDS program as long as you keep up with some grade requirements. Just a speculation.

In theory, yes you are correct. However, because a few kids in my program didn't even get an interview invite, I'm a bit skeptical. It's always a surprise with the BA/DDS program... I can only hope for the best though! :xf::xf:

That's interesting. I'm assuming BA/DDS applicants in the previous years were not performing well in D1. You got a point there. Congratulations though still ;)

I'm from 2/17 group. I called admissions today to see what the decision timeline looked like. They said 2 weeks from Monday (3/5) we'll know, so 3/19 latest. So I'm guessing for 2/13 group you all will know by 3/12.

Also, people who heard 6-7 days after interviewing was because of the first deposit being due at that time.

Congrats to everyone! It feels like yesterday that I was going through the same thing...But now I am graduated! 4 yrs will go by pretty quick. NYU will give you a pretty good clinical experience for the most part. Better then any Canadian school and better then most American schools imo when comparing through conversation.

If there is anyone interested in buying preclinical supplies from me hit me up, I have a TON of extra teeth for typodonts/dentoforms that you will be needing when you start operative in the benchlabs. The Henry Shein store in the basement charges you ~$2.25 per tooth if I remember correctly. The school doesn't provide you with enough teeth you will have to buy more of your own as you practice. The good news is that you can exchange virgin teeth for others that you need without charge, so in essence it doesn't matter which teeth you have as long as they are new and unused.

I also have extra typodonts, but you likely won't need extras of these unless you break one or lose one.
