How many applicants to ophtho in your class and how does it compare to previous years? There are 9/148 in mine - all quite qualified candidates. Typically there are only 4-6 per year, but the competition seems exceptionally stiff this year. I know for a fact that at a "top five" program they recieved well over 480 (and counting) applications, more than previous years. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Iowa usually receives more than 400 applications and sends out around 60 invites for interview.

1 (me) out of 180. My class is exceptionally odd with more than usual numbers going into psych, path, anesthesia, rads, EM and other "nice lifestyle" professions. Last year we had 4 ophtho applicants. But schools like mine should be a comfort for the rest of you...it helps even out the numbers somewhat.

I believe there are 5/150 from my school. This is a little below average, which is typically around 7-8. Does anybody know if application numbers are up or down this year? I was under the impression they were down compared to previous years...

6/150. this is around the norm from my school.
4 out of 150 is our average.
I think competition is up this year, but then again who's to say.
I know that Northwestern and UF-Gainesville both received over 500 applications.

Last year there were 3. This year there are 4 from my class (that I know of) as well as 1 from a previous year that did not match. My class is about 145.
