I noticed some on the DO threads have "adcom have not made a decision" who were alternates and then there were some who had "adcom have made a decision". So I was wondering if anyone has the "have not" on their portal?

I received the portal 30 day update and I am on the alternate list .... she doesn't know how high on the list ( she told me they haven't ranked them yet ) ... They did send out all 100 acceptances... also, Lecom sent out more alternate then acceptance... We will know more in January

while i didn't even receive any notification since I applied, they did respond to an e-mail that I sent them regarding a timeline.

and they said that they would send out letters regarding statuses "in the near future".

Update on my status. I told them I accept the alternate spot and this is my new portal message:

"The LECOM Bradenton Office of Admissions received your confirmation to accept a position on the Alternate list. Notification of acceptance can take place up until the first day o"

For the benefit of statistics my status is also blank. I hope that means I am high priority but it does sound a bit fishy that the applicants LECOM is most, well second most, interested in would be ignored on the portal. I may call once this week calms down.

FWIW, my best guess would be
20 invites towards the end of December or very early January
10 invites every couple of weeks from January through April
5 invites every couple of weeks from April to June

I think they will most likely end up with around 560-575 interviewees total based on the history of when new schools opened. For instance, MWU-AZ interviewed 570 people for 110 seats for the class of 2009 based on the Official ADEA 2010 statistics. :) Oh, and then MWU-AZ accepted 213 people total for that year.

Better start revamping my app...If their dental school will be anything like the med school app when it first opened, they took about 70% off their WL to fill a class of 150. That includes accepted pending open seat people I think which would be our priority people.

The only people they will flat out reject are international students, but you're probably right about keeping everyone else in the the active pool. I would at least. I wondering when they will rank the list if at all? It is odd that they wouldn't update with a "accepted pending open seat" status like they do with their med and pharm programs but they have been full of surprises and I believe the priority list statement. I have no reason not to believe it.

I believe May is significant for Med because that's when those with multiple MD offers need to choose which opens seats at DO programs. So yea, their May is our January. I would think that offers to the priority applicants would be sent out late Dec. early Jan. with alternate offers mid to late Jan.

Read this thread (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=575278) about LOI. I hope that's not the case..... But what do you think?

Too late, it might be true, it might not but gauging from what those did to get off the pharm and med list at LECOM, not some other school, worked. They also did the academic update, sent in another LOR.

Ask the admissions counselor at your school if showing interests in a LOI is bad thing. They usually suggest it along with updating any other activities since mid summer.

Whats the difference between alternate who express zero interest and play it "too cool for your school" or those who say "Hey this is why I chose to apply to your school and what I will bring to class". Desperate? Some might thing so, but not expressing any interest at this point is also a turn off in my book. I know some like the "hard to get" thing but I think LECOM wants students who really want to go there and say it.

I'm not too desperate to drop 350K on school for an awesome career when I could use my degree and make 70k in May, but it would be pretty neat.

I don't know I cant think of anything right off that makes sense.... and your probaly right ablout some of the PWL getting offers at other schools.

I've been following this thread for LECOM and I really appreciate all your responses! its kept me sane for this application process..:)

I interviewed oct 26 and got no reply on dec 1 with a blank in my LECOM portal (and AADSAS) and called last wed about my status. She said that my position is favorable and to wait for January for the second round of acceptances.

As for the deposits, I remember them at the interview saying the accepted students have a 2 week deadline to turn them in. Maybe the committee is using the last half of December to re-evaluate the alternate spots.

I decided to check back on my status today and it switched from blank to
"The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days." Does that mean I am off of the priority and onto the regular waiting list? #demoted

Keep us posted. One question to ask is if the list has been ranked. I am assuming were we ranked before and the top 150 or so were given offers for acceptance or priority. How many were on the PWL and WL?

I believe the interview matters a lot. I think they are looking for people who they think are the best fit for PBL? I don't know.

- We will hear from them sometime after Jan 2. They are waiting to see who accepts an alter spot and see how many deposits will be put down
- The alternate is not ranked (at least not right now?)
- 2 weeks to put down a deposit in January
- They don't know how many people are on the wait-list... waiting until the 2 week deadline.

There's a great chance for everyone. Like NguyenDDS always says, sometime around mid-January will be our Dec. 1 :p

Received my alternate letter today. I interviewed last Wednesday, Dec. 7th and the letter is dated Dec. 8th. During the interview Stephanie did tell us that there were a good number of turned down acceptances already and that they would be sending out some acceptances during December to account for those who turned down the offer already. And also that Jan 2nd would be when the second round of acceptances would take place for the most part.

On a side note, Dr. Curd pulled me aside after the interview to tell me how well I did during my interview and how he liked the buzz I had about me. So hopefully they do base this a lot on the interviews haha.

Same thing here with Dr. Curd and alternate listed as well. I would say they rank us pre interview and then add our interview score into that. If I had a great interview, I might just be an average candidate overall because of my low gpa. I'm sure that's how must schools operate. Lets just hope the interview plays a larger role for determining the alternate position instead of stats!

PS - It's good to hear a good number had already declined the offer on the 7th! Hurry up and wait for Jan. 2nd I guess.

Received my alternate letter today. I interviewed last Wednesday, Dec. 7th and the letter is dated Dec. 8th. During the interview Stephanie did tell us that there were a good number of turned down acceptances already and that they would be sending out some acceptances during December to account for those who turned down the offer already. And also that Jan 2nd would be when the second round of acceptances would take place for the most part.

On a side note, Dr. Curd pulled me aside after the interview to tell me how well I did during my interview and how he liked the buzz I had about me. So hopefully they do base this a lot on the interviews haha.

I'm sure that they had several cancellations for this month and next already. I would assume more will decline their already scheduled interviews when they hear back from the second wave of acceptances in early Jan. When that second wave of declined offers of acceptance and interview come in, they will most likely review the alternate files. There is simply no way they reviewed everyone's file on the alternate list, so I would expect them to draw heavily from that list when they actually visit it and read our files. They probably stopped reading and ranked after they selected the top 150 and placed everyone else in a continue review pile for later. Come Jan. I bet they will still have to fill 65-70 spots.

I recently declined my december interview. I think you're right, a lot more people are probably doing that as well. Good luck to you. I'm sure if you're patient and really want to go there, good things will happen throughout the spring.

all i know is, the adcoms have had my file since sept and they haven't made a decision yet regarding an interview.

I would love to go to lecom, but I feel I only did 'OK' in the interview.

Also, I got the "You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days." email. Does that essentially mean that I am wait listed?

all of us had a blank status after the interview. Only after Dec. 1st did they change so the blank status doesn't apply to you Dec. 14thers. My bet is that they wont make a decision on that group until after the holidays.

I wonder when they will start ranking the list since the deadline was last Friday? This week or after the holiday? But we can probably count on them sending out a letter early-mid Jan. with the ranked list.

I didn't recall them saying they would definitely advise us of our ranking--just that we would be ranked. But it would be nice to know.

The next deadline is Jan 2, right? So... the question is: does this only regard post-dec interviewees or does this also include alternates?

Probably the rest of the priority list then the top 50 or so from the alternate maybe?

I talked to stephanie today and she told me nothing was ranked yet .. also she seemed like they were overwellemed. So, who knows if we will get any new information in janurary ... we might have to wait untill feb.

Agreed. They seemed to be ahead a few months back. It could be that there are more things to do now so they are falling behind (keep track of new apps, accepted offers, accepted alternates, deposits, declined offers, finding new people to interview to make up for the declined offers, etc...)

Isn't the wait-list and alternate letter the same?

I'm sure the dental school is doing things different but those on the bradenton pharm threads said there was a difference between wait, alternate and hold.

I think I read something like that on the pharm forum as well... if I remember correctly... wait-list is a higher priority than alternate in terms of chances but I'm not sure about hold? I remember reading somewhere that wait-list means that you are basically accepted but there are no more spots open and alternate is just backup? I'm not sure if this is correct? :confused:

I think it was the other way around alternate>waitlist>hold. But the med threads never mention the difference between waitlist v. alternate so I'm going to assume dental they are the same thing. Hold, however, means you'r on hold for spring grades, letters...etc.

Nah I just thought I remember someone saying she said we would know more mid-Jan., I took that as they would be sending out a ranked list but who knows. Other schools give their second round acceptances around this time too so there will be a lot of movement this coming month.

Yea, I called Stephanie before winter break and she told me my status (alternate list) will be hearing back mid-January. It's 99% likely that the next round won't be out until mid-January or after. I believe Jan 2-3 is too early to hear from them because schools are still on winter break until after New Years :)

Yes, my status changed after I was accepted. It now says "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days."

Most wait lists are not ranked. They retain a pool of applicants that they draw/select from depending on the class composition. I was wait-listed last year at 2 schools and had no acceptances so I know your pain.
But this cycle I had many pre-Dec and post-Dec interviews and multiple Dec 1st acceptances.
If LECOM would not be your #1 choice (if you had say, 2-3 acceptances), then don't worry (I know, easier said than done, but I speak from experience) you can try again.
The next cycle comes fast and being a second time applicant with all the completed pre-reqs is much more attractive to dental schools.

Well the first thing I am going to do is grab myself a drink and enjoy this wkend. Then I am going to focus on finishing my last semester strong. I will focus on interviews for a job during the semester. And lastly I heard that there are a few more schools opening next year so I might try dental school again (this time applying for more then just a few schools).

BUT If I get accepted in late Feb I will be as happy as can be and I will be going to LECOM :cool:

I'm restudying for my DAT retake at the end of this month. Nothing super hardcore. About 2-3 hours per day of studying. And I picked up a new hobby about fish, which consumes a lot of my time (and money!) heheh Either way, this DAT retake will be great. It'll help me with this cycle and definitely next cycle :)

I also had a few job offers and looking forward to my last semester. What new schools? Food, your gpa is solid so a nice DAT will make you a first round pick for sure. If I don't hear the good news in Feb I will probably start studying for a retake as well.

Not positive these will make it, but I've heard of these two planning to be open to apply to this next cycle for class of 2017.

Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (not sure of the name...it's another AT Still dental school)

Those two are what I have heard but we will find out more towards June

For the new school opening in Maine, they have some preference to those living in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont :)

So I called and they are going to finish conducting interviews which end in March and then they will review all the alternates and will give offers via phone.

this is getting ridiculous that they keep pushing back when they will be notifying any of the alternates. i was really loving everything about lecom until everything that's happened since the beginning of december. now they just seem to be so unorganized and just making things up as they go. i'm really starting to question if they program will really be the same way for the first few years.

Yea I'm banking on Boston. I was impressed with their emphasis on clinical experience but how they are treating us and keeping us in the dark has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I don't know if they are in oh S*** mode or what. I asked how many of the initial 100 accepted the offer and she said she didn't know lol. That is clearly a figure anyone in admission would know.

it's a shame too. the program was very impressive and the area was really nice. and i was especially looking forward to being in the same class with a lot of you guys. good luck with boston. i'm hoping for roseman or even a few more interviews (kentucky, louisville, vcu) would be nice.

Im sorry you didnt get an acceptance right away (i didnt either), but EVERY school is going to be the exact same way. While some schools rank their alternates (or tell you what the rank is) certainly not all do. Most schools interview till March. All schools will tell you that can accept alternates up till the first day of classes. They dont have a deadline that they have to tell you anything!!! lol Just because they say March doesnt mean it will take them till March to tell you. You may get a phone call tomorrow. Its not a question of organization. Your expectations of the situation are just slightly askew.

P.S. I promise you they know. Does it really make sense that they are going to give you their figures on how many students have accepted?! I can think of a multitude reasons why a school wouldn't give out that information until their class is filled.

Hey guys, I just wanted to inform you of some things. People were wondering If I was wait listed, and the answer is yes. I think they wont be getting to the wait list until well after march.

I wont specify the date, it was after December (dont want to give away identity). I wouldn't try and give you false info, I wish it wasn't true either, lets just say a pretty important person from the institution informed me of the truth.

i really find it hard to believe that this person actually told you this info. did this person tell you after your interview or something? (not to insult you or anything, but i really wouldn't think that they'd tell you the specifics)

i remember during my interview, one admissions counselor said that if you're on the alternate list you still have a pretty good shot, as she had already pulled a few people from the alternate list at that point (this was recently btw). she did mention that in may more seats are going to be opening up, since that around when schools have set their "final" deadline or something.

either way, my name isn't leaving that alternate list. i made it really clear that i am interested in attending so hopefully it'll work out.

Ya, I was given the same "runaround" on the dates as well. First told "definitely" at the end of Jan, then when that didnt happen it gets changed to Feb. I understand they probably don't know what they are doing since it's their first year, but a little honesty would have been much better than the "run-around" that has been thrown our way. If alternate was going to be contacted in May, then say that from the get go

I'm thankful to have an offer somewhere else, so it's not a huge deal to me, but I would be pretty furious if I was still holding out hope on this school
