View Full Version : 2011 BU vs. Tufts (Class of 2016)
mcfluri23 12-29-2011, 01:40 PM Hey everyone, so I got accepted to BU on Dec. 1 and I have an interview with Tufts on January 5 but the deposit for BU is due on January 3rd... I'm planning on putting in a deposit for BU but there's the chance I might like Tufts better and then my parents would have wasted money on the non-refundable deposit- any advice/opinions about the two schools?

I don't think its a waste to put that deposit on BU on the off chance that you don't get into Tufts, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Though I think you'll end up liking Tufts a lot the facilities are much newer, clinically its a much stronger program; not sure if you seen some threads on here but there have been some really negative input in regards to BU's program and Tufts IMO is much better than BU...the timing sucks because you won't know from tufts before the deadline of the deposit obviously but I'd much rather have a spot at one school instead of banking on an interview and than finding out I'm wait listed etc...

+1 you need to be safe.
Tufts > BU by far. Everyone will agree to that.
AwesomeTeeth 12-29-2011, 03:27 PM Lol the title of this is slightly misleading. It should be, should I put down my deposit for BU?
And the answer is yes. Even though it might be a waste of money, you're not guaranteed at spot at Tufts yet. So save yourself a seat just in case.
mi2ni 12-29-2011, 08:33 PM The deposit money is nothing compared to all money you've spent to get to this point. You will be kicking yourself for a year if you don't put down the deposit and not get into Tufts (assuming you don't have any offers other than BU at the moment).
mcfluri23 12-30-2011, 10:57 AM I also got into NYU but I'm not planning on going there. I'm definitely going to put down a deposit at BU, I guess what I was really trying to get at was whether it's worth it to even consider Tufts now, because I really liked BU and the two schools seem pretty similar to me

Your opinion may change after visiting Tufts. My impression was that they have one of the best clinical programs in the country (ask about their group practice setup in the interview). Also, the chance of getting in if they interview you is high. But, I would go ahead with BU deposit as you planned.
Demps 12-31-2011, 11:11 PM Go to NYU man. lol BU over NYU?
vellnueve 01-02-2012, 06:22 AM Having graduated from Tufts (and having gone to BU's undergrad rival), Tufts >>>>> BU.
Think about the massive amounts of money you've spent to get this far and the massive amounts of money you will soon be paying. Is the deposit really that big a deal?
shatner 01-03-2012, 09:26 PM It doesn't seem like the original poster was debating whether or not to put the deposit in at BU. The more important question was which school is the stronger program.
Honestly, you will probably be able to make up your own mind after the interview.

Actually the more important question is "Will OP get an acceptance to Tufts?" Otherwise, this is pointless debate.

this is also a true statement.

As I stated, I believe Tufts is better
mcfluri23 01-20-2012, 10:40 AM So I got accepted to Tufts so now it is a real decision between BU or Tufts... why is there so much hate for BU?
woolloo 01-20-2012, 11:02 AM It might be helpful to follow this thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/archive/index.php/t-688190.html
The decision is ultimately yours to make, and be true to your heart.

I have no idea. I would choose BUSM over Tufts, but I'm going to medical school, so I have contributed nothing to this discussion.
BU med > Tufts med : )
BU student = Tufts student

BUSM is ranked better than tufts medical - but if your not in the dental field, than of course you wouldn't know how much better tufts dental is regarded over BU dental. I'd go to Tufts, facilities are nicer, faculty is great, and its reputation is highly regarded in the dental community (how do i know b/c I have an entire family of dentists mom, dad, and sister who just graduated not from Tufts)

Med school reputation is completely different from dental school reputation. No idea why you're pulling med schools into this.
