Hello,
How many years past medical school does it take to become an opthalmologist? What I am trying to ask is once you have finished four years of medical school how many total years after that does it take to become a practicing opthalmologist?
Thanks,
Tim

You do 1 year of internship (medicine, transitional, or surgery) and three years of Ophthalmology residency training. After that, you can be a general ophthalmologist or pursue further training in one of several fellowships lasting 1-2 years each.
