Is anybody else applying to schools in Israel? I'd like to start a serious thread on this. Here are two questions I have:

What time frame does BGU move within? They start taking people June 1, but don't have a deadline on thier website. Did anybody apply last year?

Does anyone know where the regional interviews for Sackler are?

Has anyone heard from these schools (other than filling out an application)?

I'm a 3rd year student in the BGU program, and I'm pretty happy with it. I think most of my classmates are too.

We follow the normal academic calendar as is done in the States.

Your Sackler interview may be arranged within your city, if there happens to be a Sackler-graduated physician in your area. I'm from Phoenix and I was able to interview locally with a physician who went to Sackler. Otherwise, you may have to go to LA or NY.

To those of you in school in Israel. I was recently accepted to school in the US, I was wondering if there are any opportunities for US med students to do a rotation and study at a med school in Israel, either a summer thing or during the fourth year. Any info is appreciated!

It can be done. I remember seeing information on application for elective positions. Unfortunately... I don't remember where I saw it. I will be lookinf when the time comes though. It would definately be interesting, exciting, and fun.

Are there any English-language MD-programs in Israel other than Sacklers American MD-program?

I'm no US-citizen, so I'm not eligible for the American program.

Which means that if I want to go to Israel (which I have the right to :)) have to study in a regular Israeli program.
But are they all in Hebrew? Or do any of the medical schools in Israel have English-language programs as well?

Would be great if anyone could answer these questions. :)

I believe you may also apply to Sackler as an international student, through the regular admission process.

All three of these schools offer an excellent education and can help you get into a good residency program. You'll probably need to learn Hebrew eventually for your clinicals though; not a bad idea to get started now.

If you end up staying where you are for school, try going to any of these programs for a student rotation. I plan to and am looking forward to it.

If you go to Columbia, you can do an elective at BGU.

Hey doc,

Curious; did you go to Sackler? I'm pretty sure I want to at least do some clinical rotations there.

I'm concerned though about doing electives abroad. In your opinion, is it better to do a rotation in your target specialty at a stateside school, given a choice one way or the other?

How about the insurance issue? I've heard that in Israel, a school's malpractice policy doesn't cover visiting students.

You can do electives at BGU even if you're not a Columbia student. Other schools have formal exchange programs with BGU (Einstein, UMass) but I know students have come from other US schools that aren't officially affiliated. These electives are arranged throug the regular, Isareli, six year program, not our 4 year A'merican-style" international one. You don't have to speak Hebrew for a visiting elective. All Israeli educated physicians are fluent in English, but the patients aren't :)
