i am an FMG and planning to try for ophthalmology residency.already cleared step 2(99/246).now preparing for step 1.if i do ophthalmology fellowship before applying for residency,will it be considered as clinical experience?
is there any chance for me to get into research before doing residency(ophthal)?
any input is greatly appreciated.
ps:i am a POAG patient and i am very much interested in ophthalmology.

1) Step 2 will have little impact. You need to do well on Step 1.
2) Fellowship will help.
3) If you do a fellowship, then you'll have the opportunity to do research.
4) Depending what you do your fellowship in, it may or may not be clinical experience. Without an ophthalmology residency completed first, you'll most likely only qualify for research fellowships. You won't be able to do any surgeries.
