Touching story... I almost cried and I haven't cried in a LONG time. Wish I could do something for the kid... what about proton therapy if surgery is not possible?

They brought together an impressive team of specialists to operate on him, but January 5th he went into a convulsive seizure lasting 40 minutes. TOD 11:11pm

there are tons of them around.
Its really not that necessary these days- linacs can do the same thing (and more). But people hear the term and think its sexy. good PR> GK is actually rather old and to be honest, not a good use of money these days. MOdify your linac and invest in something better.

I didnt think meningiomas were that life-threatening?

edit: i guess size would play a big part in that.

You're right. Depends on size and location. My dad had a meningioma. It would have grown into the vasculature had they not removed it.

there are malignant meningiomas. Thankfully not common. Also, multiple Meningiomas are a problem. Without knowing for sure I suspect this boy was an NF syndrome kid.

I agree with Steph. Linac-based stereotactic radiosurgery can do as well or even a better job, especially with a micro-multileaf collimator (and perform conformal treatments -whereas GK can't do it). The good thing about GK is it's a dedicated system for CNS. The linac system takes time to set-up, etc...
