does anyone know where you can find published data on census information for ophthalmologists? for example, given a city size of 'x' population, how many general, plastics, retina, etc ophthalmologists can the city support. i'm sure there is data out there on this subject, but i can't seem to find it. thanks

Try the online yellow pages and see how many ophthalmologists and specialists there are in the city. Then look at the US Census data to find the population of the city and the median income of the residents.
It takes a lot of work, but you can find those cities with the highest median income and lowest per-capita number of ophthos.
That's what my father did when deciding what city he wanted to practice dentistry in.
But that was in the 80's and they didn't have this new-fangled internet yet!
