who determines the criteria for a valid clinical rotation? my school doesn't have any sites set up in my state and i would like to approach some providers about doing rotations. are there state regulations? federal regulations? What has to be covered in what rotation? apologize in advance if this is perceived as a "stupid" question.

The first thing you should do is to check out your state's specific rules. For example:

TX Does not want you doing clinical rotations there if you plan on doing residency or practicing down the road
CA Wants all rotations (except for 16 weeks of electives) at ACGME (greenbook) spots
NM Follows CA rules

From there check out the Green Book or FRIEDA (AMA-ASSN.org) for a list of approved rotations.

Best of Luck~!
