I have both the kaplan review book for MCAT and DAT. When looking at the BIO sections the MCAT review book goes into real details why the DAT bio hardly does. For those people who took the DAT's already do you think its worth studying both? or is the DAT bio review enough? thanx :confused:

I have both books and already took the DAT. The DAT is sufficient. You won't need to study the MCAT one. It will just be a waste of time.

depends how much time you have to study stealth. when i first started studying, i gave a cursory reading through mcat review books because they gave a thorough understanding of bio concepts. thats more important for the mcat bc they stress fundamentals especially when it comes to those passages which im sure you know. the DAT bio is really straightforward and Kaplan bio tex is pretty good for that....except a little lacking in information about different phyla...etc

I studied all MCAT material for the DAT. I like the MCAT attempt to integrate and connect conceptual knowledge. Sure it take a longer time to grasps concepts but in the long run you will remember more and relate it to new knowledge. I am not someone who depends on memorization. I just can not understand things with out detail.

the MCAT's a different animal.

whatever reveiew books you have for the DAT touch on exactly what you need to know.

if you want FURTHER proof... get your hands on a practice cd for the DAT, run thru it and you'll see what questions they as and that they synch' up to the reveiw material very well (as they do not with mcat stuff; you're right, too much detail; i don't remember ecology on the mcat, either).

The MCAT bio and DAT are really different from each other. MCAT has quite a few topics not on the DAT, but the DAT has quite a few topics not on the MCAT.

The DAT bio follows the topics covered in pretty much every undergrad school's 1 year pre-dental/pre-med bio requirement. While the MCAT is a different beast and completely gets rid of things like evolution, ecology etc and replaces it with physiology and a few other topics that most people don't cover in their 1st year of college bio.

The Kaplan MCAT and DAT books are identical in the General Chem and O. Chem sections. While bio is different, and DAT omits physics but adds quant, and PAT. Reading Comprehension is a completely different story between the two tests - the DAT being much easier.
