ATTN MOD: I know there is a financial aid forum here, but since this relates more to those studying in Australia; I'm beginning this post here. Pls move if you find it more appropriate elsewhere.

Since US stafford loans are capped at 18500 per year for med students studying abroad. I am considering borrowing from private lenders to compensate. However I'm finding that many of the well regarded lenders from the financial aid threads don't do private education loans to citizens studying in foreign countries or to schools not listed with AAMC.

Was hoping to compile a list of lenders that are willing to do this as a starting point to shopping interest rates and conditions.

Obviously rates and such will vary according to credit score/co-signers etc.

I hope this will benefit everyone on the Australasia and Oceania board who might need additional funds for tuition/living expenses/relocation expenses, now or down the line.

I'm doing my loans for USyd right now and you can also find out from a particular school's financial aid officers which are their preferred lenders.

Too bad there is only CanHelp for us Canadians. It would be better if Canhelp actually provided a proper amount without a cosigner. They market their loan as ideal for professional students in med/dentistry and then only provide 25000/year which seems a little out-dated. (And yes I realize you can get more with a cosigner but you can do that at any bank).
