What have people who have interviewed at BID felt about the program. Is there really an "inferiority complex" among residents there? If the program was not affiliated with Harvard would it still be a solid program? What is the financial status of teh hospital like?
Thanks,
EJ
why are people digging up all these dead threads?
maybe lurkerboy could respond to this...
Can anyone address this?

I wouldn't say there is an inferiority complex. We work with the Brigham residents a lot (at Dana Farber and the VA) and there is actually a fair amount of camraderie between the programs. I'd call it mutual respect. There is even a good relationship with the BU residents at the VA hospital where we are all on teams together. I can't speak for them, but we all get a long well.
BIDMC itself is a beautiful place to work. I am especially happy that I matched here because of the sane scheduling, the computer system, the nursing. There are a lot of details you won't know of until your first week of internship but you'll find that BI stacks up favorably.
The hospital hasn't had any financial problems in years now, as far as I know. If you visit here, check out the ED-you'd think they have too much money!

It is a really good program-
-their fellowship stats are really impressive- most people get what they want.
-The schedule is A LOT saner than many other IM programs (believe me).
-You still have the oppurtunity to engage in almost any kind of research.
-It has a strong affiliation with Harvard (research, attendings, conferences etc)
Downsides: weather (if you hate winters), traffic (if you drive)
Good luck!

Hey all,
Just to add to the questions about BID, I just got an interview there and was wondering if anyone knows if they have residents from your middle of the road, average state schools (Im from a SUNY). I was just wondering how long of a shot I am to get in. Any info would be appreciated.
Good luck to all this interview season!
Thanks.
yes they have residents from schools not on the us news top 50. if you have an interview at a program, fully expect to match there if you want. looking at your other interviews i would imagine that you are a fairly competitive candidate and BID should not be a long shot for you. Lets get a little prespective here. BID is definately a tier or two lower than the other harvard affiliates. Since you are from new york, i would make the analogy that BID is comparable to a NYU or Mt. Sinai, in terms of competitivness.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that there was that much of a difference in terms of competitiveness.
Again, thanks for the perspective.
