Wow time sure does weird things when you are too busy to notice, the leaves are changing, the air is cooler, it's getting dark earlier and I am still doing well in medical school, and liking it! Go figure.

Enjoying the Process

The best thing about being in medical school this time is being able to really enjoy the process of learning medicine. As we study the various biochemical pathways that make up our body's metabolic system I am really understanding it and able to relate it to the "bigger picture" and it is exciting to be so jazzed about learning again. I really feel as though I am grasping and integrating the knowledge in a way that I will be able to use as a physician....

Still Going Strong

Another week down and things are still going well. We had a big biochemistry exam on Monday (big meaning it covered a large amount of material) and I was very pleased with my score, a high B. The mean score for the class was a high C. So what that means for me is, that combined with my first result I am actually in the upper half of the class right now! Week 3

So I am now 3 weeks into medical school and all I can say is, I like it! I am having a really good time studying and learning the material. That does not mean it is easy, but I am enjoying the process more than I thought I would. I am still sticking to my routine of going over the material once before lecture and then as soon as possible after lecture I sit down and construct a study guide on a yellow legal pad that highlights important points and concepts. White Coat Ceremony

My parents got in to town late Friday night and stayed at our apartment. It was great to see them as it was about a year since we last got together. They were pretty tired from their drive so we visited for a short while and then hit the hay.

A Sigh of Relief

The biochemistry grades finally came back on Thursday and I was pleased to discover that I did really well on the exam! I managed to come within 1 point of the grade that I was hoping for and that takes some of the pressure off as I will not have to dig myself out of a hole. Back in 2005 when I first took biochem my first exam was not very good at all. So it feels good to find that all the studying paid off. Its also a great motivator to keep at it and not let up. A Familiar "Sinking" Feeling

This week started optimistically enough; I have been keeping up with my studying in biochem and really enjoying and understanding it. The last lectures to be included on Wednesday's exam were on Monday morning and by that night I felt fairly confident about the material. 1st Week of Medical school

Well, one week down and a bunch more to go! This week school started with a heaping helping of biochemistry with a side of OMM thrown in for good measure. Again I found myself in awe of what God has done for me as I looked around the large lecture hall where it all started 4 years before. And So It Begins

I am back in medical school!! It seems so unreal at times and I thank God often for giving me this second chance. This week was orientation which is a 3 day welcome/info session/registration session. Orientation is very pleasant with all kinds of welcomes and "we're glad you're here" speeches, helpful hints and subtle warnings about what is to come. Having been through this before I know all too well what is waiting for us starting next week when classes start...

6 Days and Counting

It's now about 6 days until the start of school and things are all coming together. The loans are in, I have started my random testing program and I am in the process of winding down to a shift a week at the ED.
