I would love to go here. I wasn't sure if I would get any interviews, but they sent me one. I applied in July and they just received my pcat scores a few weeks ago. I'm not sure about their processing time.

Abominable Itch 10-13-2010 04:33 PM

Did anyone else get a call from Howard University asking to call them back? I'm going to call them back tomorrow.

Oh, thanks! What were the interview dates that they offered? I can only do an interview with them if it's after Christmas.

They only have Oct. 20th scheduled right now. I can't make that, so I have to reschedule to when they open up the rest of the times.I want to do it in December. I'm running out of money, so I need to save up for the flight and accommodations.

No, did you? I'm sure early decision have already been notified right? Or does Howard review them afterwards?

Abominable Itch 10-14-2010 10:29 AM

I called back Howard University and they offered me an interview. They're rescheduling me for some time after Christmas because I'm too busy.

I'll be interviewing on Wednesday, I'm coming from NC. :) I wouldn't mind going to Howard, I love DC and would like to work with a federal health agency, but UNC is my #1 choice for now.

Hi, how was the interview? I just had mine rescheduled. I was wondering how the math quiz was? What level of math do I need to know for this? If anyone else can answer these questions feel free to let me know as well. I am interviewing on Nov. 13th.

chicongle 11-06-2010 07:29 PM

Got accepted!!!

I received the letter from Howard Uni. today signed by Dr. Wutoh. I am officially in!:love:

Yeah, my interview date was on the 20th. Did you get any email from Howard? I got the email from the school on the 4th and the acceptance letter was dated on the 3rd. So I assume that if anyone who receives the email will get the acceptance letter.

xprettygirl11 11-07-2010 04:09 PM

Dr. Wutoh has been calling my cell phone and leaving me voicemails, but every time I return them, he's always in a meeting. He sent me an email on Friday saying the decisions were mailed, so I'm hoping it's good news!

I just hope they give me enough time to hear back from VCU and/or UNC.

I'm actually in a tough predicament. Currently, UNC > VCU > Howard. I've interviewed at VCU, too, but I won't hear back from them in time to submit the deposit to Howard. Plus, I don't want to not secure a seat at Howard, and then I don't get into VCU or UNC. So, my parents made me a deal - they'll pay the deposit at Howard, and if I hear back from VCU and or get an invite from UNC, I'll have to pay for that myself.

But, my parents are probably going to send it off on the 18th or so, just in case by some miracle, VCU does contact me before the 22nd.

Um, I see...
Howard has always been my first choice since I am looking to live with my parents while doing pharmacy. I can easily take metro rail of 30 mins to Howard.

Current Student

Hey all! Congrats to those who have gotten in already, and for those who get interviews, good luck!

I am currently a pharmacy student at Howard University in my first year.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and hopefully I can help out. Hope to see many of you next year at school.

Can we talk in private please? I have some questions about fin aid, loans, grants, and scholarships at Howard. It's ok if you just want to post replies on here, it's fine.
Is there any institutional scholarships that a new student like me can apply to?
Is the subsidized loans enough to cover the tuition? Or you have to take out unsubsidized loans?
Are you eligible for government grants? Cuz grants are only for undergrad, I haven't earned my bs degree yet, but pharm school is a grad program, I am not sure how it will work.
Are the classes difficult? Were you able to work?
When will be the white coat ceremony?
Will IPPE start in the summer after the first year?

Hey feel free to hit me up on AIM or yahoo or by email. I am sure lots of people have the same questions.
For Scholarships, check with the "Center of Excellence" and they might provide some sort of scholarship for incoming PharmD Students.
For loans, I believe you will need both sub and unsub loans because maximum sub loans the school gives is 8500 for the full year. My suggestion would be to take unsub loans as well and grad plus loans because you might not have the opportunity to work during your first year and doing the grad plus loans gives you a little spending money for rent and food.
For grants, unfortunatly I do not have any information on that because I have not gone through that process, if you go to financial aid they should be able to help you.
The classes are difficult the first semester but only get easier. The first semester I was not able to work, it was all about time management. Some of my classmates do work and pull off good grades. My suggestion would be to hold off on working until second semester or second year.
White coat ceremony is usually the Thursday before school starts. You will get more information through email as you get closer to August.
For the IPPE, we have rotations, not necessarily exactly IPPE. Rotations would start the summer after your first year.

Hope this helps. :)

Hey Kidkay, do not worry too much. If they have your application and all pre-reqs completed, I am sure you will hear from them very soon.

I am currently a student at Howard SOP. During my application process, I had sent my application in during December, and I did not hear back until February. Do not worry at all, they take many things into consideration when contacting the students so I am sure you have nothing to worry about :)

tritonvision 12-09-2010 03:17 PM

I just got an interview for 1/15. For those who got an interview, did you guys submitted the Supplemental before the interview? I know in the email it says to bring your supplemental and the supp fee, but on the supplemental it says that its due on 1/1.

pamtherunner 12-09-2010 04:07 PM

Yes, can someone please clarify whether the supplement and fee is due the day of the interview or 1/1? I'm really confused as well. I'm planning to call them tomorrow.

niais 12-10-2010 12:24 AM

When you receive an interview invitation, they will tell you that you need to bring the following:

1. Supplemental Application (Download from www.cpnahs.howard.edu)
2. Supplemental Application Fee ($45.00 Money Order ONLY)
3. Official Transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended
4. Driver's License, State ID, or Alien Registration Card with you for verification purposes.

I sent the supplemental application months ago and all they did was send it back to me saying that it won't be needed until you get an interview invitation. Hope this clears any confusion! :)

My stats were as follows:
Bachelor in Biology degree
3.40 GPA
3.35 science GPA
PCAT Composite of 70
the breakdown I am not sure of because I do not have my sheet with me anymore and it was a few years ago. But my chem and math was above 90 each.

Let me know if you need anything else :)

chicongle 12-13-2010 03:12 PM

Howard's level of difficulty

Hi guju,
Is the curriculum at Howard difficult? How are the tests and quizzes? How did you study for them? from the note, book, or the objective questions from each chapters? Are the finals cumulative?

Do you recommend me trying the 3 years program? or 4 years would be better off since the amount of school work at Howard is already overwhelmed.

Do you have 4 weeks winter break and about 3 months summer break?
Does the school require its students to do rotation during the summer? or it is the student's choice?

Thanks Gugu :)

NIH scholarship letter? Did Howard send you the letter or it is from NIH?
Did it tell you how much you are being offered? And how did you apply for it?
