Good Qbank App for iPad

I just got a new iPad and I am wondering if anyone has some suggestions for a good qBank app for iPad.

Thanks a lot!

myidiot 12-21-2010 09:03 AM

I recommend this one http://itunes.apple.com/app/usmlexch...406450934?mt=8. It is the most comprehensive Qbank for Step 1 currently available on the iPad. The questions are very good. Highly recommended!

KaplanEmily 12-27-2010 04:12 PM

Hello! Kaplan also has a Qbank app:

Thank you for your responses! I have tried both the Kaplan and the USMLExchange Qbank App on my iPad, and I must say think the USMLExchange Qbank is surprisingly useful. Kaplan is nice, but it only has 120 questions, after you finish them, the app is just junk. The USMLExchange App has 5000 questions and it works offline. I have been using for every day for the past two weeks and it's great!

Anyway, just want to share my experience with those who are shopping for a Qbank resources.

Thanks for your sharing your experiences!

The Kaplan USMLE Step 1 Qbank now integrates with the i/Phone/iPad/iPod Touch, which means that Kaplan Qbank users can take questions on the computer or on their Apple device. If you have a Qbank account with Kaplan, you can download the app here:

About USMLExchange. . . just downloaded the lite version and did 10 quick q's. My impression was that it was super easy (compared to my other q-bank. . . maybe not representative of the exam) and a little buggy (can't scroll down to question review on the review screen. Any issues with the full version? $50 is pretty cheap for an on-the-go 5000 question bank. . .
IMO this is a relatively under-utilized market to this point. Wish there were more options out there!

Dear Kaplan,

PLEASE may an iPad specific app so that it takes up the whole screen without looking terrible.

Sincerely,
Ipad user

I agree with DrJD. I am really looking forward to an IPAD version of the Kaplan qbank app. I think it will be a great study tool given that iOS devices are getting more and more popular.

I am using the iPhone application at the moment using the ipad which is okay, but I would much prefer to use the app designed for the iPad. I carry iPad to study all the time, my bulky laptop stays at home now.

This question is directed at the Kaplan moderators.

Can student expect an iPad version of the app be release soon?

KaplanEmily 03-20-2011 03:14 PM

Hello kire1820!

We will check and get back to you. We always explore options to make exam prep easier for students!

The response from our Development Team:

Hi, thanks for your great question, we're always very happy when we receive new product ideas from students.

While we definitely agree that iPad and mobile study are growing, at the moment our focus is on building successful Qbank apps for Android phones, and then for steps 2 and 3. We'll circle back and make versions that are optimized for larger screens like the iPad and Galaxy when more students use these devices to study. It will happen soon, I have no doubt.

Best of luck on exam day!

How many people work on this? I actually don't think it takes that much effort to get a few more pixels in there. I understand they have to prioritize and are busy, but that is really a let down. If it were on the ipad, I could envision actually using it a lot more. On my phone, it is kind of a time kill but I have a hard time getting the information from it.

Also, something has to be done about that whole window within a window thing on the computer version. I love the references, the medessentials diagrams and all that, but there are some wacky formatting things and it hasn't mattered what computer I've used.

Hi MossPoh,

Thank you for your detailed comments. These also will be sent to the product development team, as your feedback is imperative for us to stay tuned into how our products are working.

MossPoh 04-13-2011 08:51 AM

Delayed reply, but thanks. As whiny as I get, I do enjoy the product overall and appreciate how you guys handle the criticism.

KaplanEmily 04-15-2011 07:13 AM

Hello MossPoh!

Thank you for your kind comments. We really are glad to hear that you enjoy the product.

Step 2ck

I am trying to decide between Uworld and kaplan qbanks for step 2 CK. I just got an iPad, does anyone know if kaplan or uworld are more compatible with iPad? I heard there was an app that came out recently for uworld to use on iPhone and iPads. Anyone know if there's one for Kaplan for the step 2 ck too?

SC85 12-28-2011 11:03 AM

Step 2 CK Kaplan qbank on iPad

I have bought a subscription to Step 2 CK on kaptest.com and haven't been able to find a way to do the questions on iPad. There is no app and safari, google, and Firefox browsers will not allow you to do the tests. If anyone has away they can use their iPad, please let me know. USMLE world has an app but I haven't bought the subscription, so I cannot comment on the quality of that app.

KaplanEmily 12-28-2011 03:09 PM

Hi,

We soon will be launching versions for larger screens like the iPad and Galaxy. I'll see if we have a more specific date.

SC85 01-03-2012 07:00 PM

Hi KaplanEmily,

You currently do not have an iPad or iPhone application for Step 2 CK. Is that a project currently in progress? Also is there a way to download the Kaplan browser so we can at least access the questions from your website on the iPad?

Thanks for your help!

KaplanEmily 01-04-2012 03:38 PM

Hello SC85!

Yes, we are working on an iPad application for Step 2 CK. I will find out if there is a way to access the questions from the website on the iPad.

Thanks for asking!

SC85 01-15-2012 02:27 PM

Hi KaplanEmily.

Did you ever find out if you could access the kaptest questions through a browser on the iPad?

Thanks!

KaplanEmily 01-17-2012 09:48 AM

Hello! Thank you for your patience, and for the reminder!

The apps themselves were designed with smartphones in mind, but will work on tablets, though the screen is not optimized for those devices.

As mentioned, we are developing currently an app for the iPad.

Dr Google 04-30-2012 03:40 PM

So when's it finally coming out?

So any estimate when an ipad-specific app for Kaplan Step 2 CK Qbank will be coming out?

(I bought an ipad 3 just for the Kaplan Qbank yesterday, but was hugely disappointed with the tiny app they have for an ipad now. Although I must congratulate Kaplan for the excellent Qbank they have made, it worked wonders for me for step 1, which is why I am desperate for an ipad-specific app to come out for step 2 to make work more efficient!)

Hello Dr. Google,

I will check on the application. Thank you for the great feedback about our Qbank. We do want to make it work for you!

Okay, thanks for the update! I was almost losing myself with the tiny iPhone app!
Please post the date as soon as you come to know for sure, thanks!

It's kind of frustrating and for me really hard to comprehend why it takes soooo freaking long for a multi-million dollar business like Kaplan to produce an iPad app... :-( I love the QBank, but nowadays iPad version should be a MINIMUM!!!

Belleza156 08-17-2012 02:07 PM

Personally I dont like the kaplan qbank app on the iPad because it won't flip, so you have to use the iPad vertically....its pretty annoying. Also all the videos which offer explanations to certain questions are not available on the app. And there is no option to select high yield questions only on the app( this is incredibly important because close to your test date you won't want to do the nitpicky low yield questions). It's really not much better than using your phone.

As for usmleworld its 100 times more iPad friendly, but it also has its limitations. You can't do search of keywords or question ID numbers, but you can browse thru old tests you've taken. You can also listen to the media questions on the iPad (you can't w kaplan). It's much better in so many ways. Any questions you can PM me, I used both Qbanks to study for step 1.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Belleza156.

I'll forward your comments and those of Cozenboy to our development team. The feedback is extremely helpful as we build and refine resources.

2014 match 11-24-2012 05:17 AM

Hi Kaplan

So any news on the Step 2 ipad app? I was just starting with my Qbank and the app as it is, is pretty disappointing. Ipad app is long overdue.

KaplanEmily 11-28-2012 08:31 PM

Hello 2014 Match!

We'll keep you updated. We always appreciate user feedback yet regret that you are disappointed.

Bnad 02-22-2013 04:38 PM

I just want to add I really like the mobile app, it is so useful during downtime or short breaks.

KaplanEmily 02-23-2013 05:46 PM

Thank you for the feedback, Bnad!

We are very glad to hear the mobile app is useful. Good luck as you prep for your exam! Please let us know if you have any questions.
