So it's official, my sleep schedule is destroyed. I woke up at 12:30 today, and was like, **** I gotta get it together. So I suggest everyone start adjusting their sleep schedules now...tomorrow I'm setting my alarm for 6 AM so I actually wake up at 8 AM, continuing until exam day.

So as usual, running commentary on AAMC8. Didn't study much, didn't prepare, just going in blind. Going to regret this as AAMC7 blew my mind apart.

PS: Not that bad, I just don't really care. I went through it once, didn't review, ended with 13 minutes left. I guess I'm not taking AAMC8 seriously at all. **** it. On average I'll guess I got about a 9, that Archimedes passage took me about 4 minutes, and that Starch passage also blew me apart.

VR:  At this point I would have voided my MCAT. Guessed on 20, blew through it just clicking whatever answer sounded good, finished with 8 minutes remaining, hit End, stretched for 10, WS.

WS: LOL come on. Ended with 10 mins to spare, my average is N to S so I'll be glad with an O on the real thing.

PS: Bring on the rape. I'll guess around an 8? Ended 25 mins early.

Expectations: 9/7/10

WELP.

I got a 12 in Bio with one pass through, not even bothering to correct any mistakes I did.

I'm done. Gonna hopefully hang out with a friend, drink something, otherwise just go cry in the corner.

No offense bro, but why are you bitching so much? You got a 31 bro! That's an awesome score dude! Keep it up.

Also, I wish I was as consistent as you in PS and BS. My scores are random, although they're usually at least 10s.

fas376 04-14-2012 03:18 PM

Also, how the hell are you so quick with your sections! They usually take me the entire time to finish. I hardly ever finish with more than a minute spare :(

pfaction 04-14-2012 03:27 PM

Maybe you missed the glaring, school screening 7 in VS. That's my limiting.

For this exam I was so burned out from AAMC7 that Thursday and Friday all I did was read some TBR, and read Brave New World. I just didn't give a ****. So today, I woke up late for some reason, at 12:30, started exam at 1:45. I knew I was going to do poorly, so I one-shot everything. If I couldn't get an answer I marked it, then POE or whatever, I did it linearly. Same in BS, but I was so worn out that I was like "A, B, C, D? D is wrong, C doesn't make sense, A sounds good, but so does B, so **** it, B." 25 mins left, I get a 12.

I am unhappy solely with Verbal. The fact that I didn't prepare or whatever and got 12's means I'm okay on those. And I'm one point away in both to get a 13.

You can pull it up, don't worry. Just relax. Congrats on the 12s man

pfaction 04-14-2012 03:35 PM

Thanks. I guarantee you when I go through my test for PS, it'll be 50/50 mistakes and flip flops (I wrote down the ones I flipped against) and for BS, it'll be passage reading mistakes.

I just gotta clamp down and get a high score in Verbal.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm taking AAMC 11 tonight and will probably get destroyed by it since it's the hardest. Goal for this one is just a 29

brandonh4 04-14-2012 06:02 PM

Just took AAMC 9 today, got a 39 (12/14/13). Yay! Wondering if this was just a fluke/easy test, or if I've actually improved in the last two weeks. Last tests were AAMC 7 and 8, got a 35 and 34 respectively...

very nice! Your verbal scores are out of this world man.

I'm staying up very late today and working on some of my weaknesses. I'll probably wake up around 12 tomorrow, work out, and then do AAMC 8. Hoping today's review helps me tomorrow :) anyways back to work

Thanks for the cheer-up. I'll definitely take as many AAMCs as I can until the exam date. It's just the feeling of disappointment that I had been studying my ass off day and night (together with full-time working) for the past 4 months, thought I grasped the materials well enough to get a good score, and turned out I was still at 30. We'll see how things go.

Alright guys, no more backing out of this one (unless you don't mind burning $240, which happened to me back in 2010). Deadline passed for rescheduling/cancelling. Study beast mode this next two weeks.

Kinda glad I missed the deadline because after taking AAMC 11, I would have considered postponing.

I got absolutely butt-raped.

10/7/10. Dropped 6 points. This test was IMPOSSIBLE for me.

spiceupyolife 04-15-2012 08:12 AM

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.............sorry i had to let it out.

Good luck studying everyone. two more weeks till our freedom!! (...minus the month of terror of getting your score back)

YouNeverKnow22 04-15-2012 08:18 AM

took AAMC 5 yesterday with all kind of distractions in the lib.

8/8/7 :scared:

I changed computers TWICE (1st time a homeless man was snoring extremely loud and 2nd time azn dude decides to listen to rap music with no headphone super loud wtf?)

PS not bad, one passage railed me killing my score
VR is a fluke I usually hit 10 or 11
BS missed almost 3/4 of the orgo questions and random bio q's

should I be concerned? I'm going to review today and read over all my bio/orgo notes. I felt unusually confident on PS, which is a first but still didn't do great. I know the BS section on the real thing has less orgo but I'm still concerned, plus when it's towards the end I start to lose focus how do you guys deal with this?

The real thing could be more Orgo than bio for all you know. Learn everything. An 8 in those sections is kinda low, seems to me like your missing some important concepts. Figure out what sections you are weak in an review them.

yeah I'm reviewing the test and weak spots today. I need to take another test with in the next two days to assess where I stand and if I should void the real thing and sign up for a later date--I really hope not.

evolvex 04-15-2012 10:42 AM

aamc 9

Took AAMC9 last night

PS:12 VR:9 BS:11 = 32 :)

Did anyone think the PS was easier than other exams? I usually struggle with PS, and I found this to be pretty easy. Even finished with time to spare! stupid mistakes, like real stupid, oxidation # question! really? I guess I cant count. I should of had a 13.

The verbal wasn't to bad in retrospect, One passage I bombed which dropped my score, but I guess it was fair. And I had a song stuck in my head that section, WTF

I thought BS was hard, the orgo was light, but what was there was tough for me, I usually kill orgo too. BS is usually my top section so i was surprised.

I'm all for progress, but I wish that it could happen quicker since I only have 2 more weeks for this exam.

Scores so far:

AAMC 3: 16 P6 V4 B6
AAMC 4: 24 P9 V8 B7
AAMC 5: 18 P8 V6 B4
AAMC 7: 15 P6 V4 B5
AAMC 8: 19 P6 V6 B7
AAMC 9: 20 (latest) P8 V6 B6

I'm working my ass off and I can't get to 27 to save my life and this will be my 3rd attempt on this exam.

I am in the same boat as you. This is my second time taking it and I just don't know what to do. I go over them and I understand it but I don't think I am able to connect the dots while I am taking the exam with time pressure. How are you attacking your weak spot??

I've been reviewing my exams and reviewing the chapters from TPR books, and then doing whatever problems are left for me to do.

i feel your pain man, work hard and review all practice tests as best as possible. I got a 23 on AAMC5 yesterday but know I can get at least a 30 (stupid mistakes, not really a content lapse)

Yeah. that sounds about right. I am taking notes as I am going over my exam, hoping that its helping. Lets keep going at it!!

evolvex 04-15-2012 02:13 PM

If it helps for verbal, I once got a 12 in verbal on a Princeton review test, which will probably never happen again. But I took notes on things I did that test, that I normally don't.

Some sound obvious but I take them for granted.

No technique, just read and answer.

1. For that test I knew every passage inside and out. That is very important just know what the **** is going on.

2. I noticed MCAT-esk details in the passage and made note of them. Things they like are explanations to phenomena, or a conclusion of some sorts.

3. MOST IMPORTANT, take the test with the mentality to eliminate rather than confirm. Normally, I would read the question and gravitate to the "best sounding answer". Its okay to do this, but don't go back to the passage trying to confirm it, rather try to eliminate it. If you can't then its your answer. I did this for 3 that I picked the "sucker " answer, and went back and found evidence for another.

4. With that I was Skeptical, I picked a choice and was like "nah, the author didn't mean that at all" Just don't be accepting. skeptical but not neurotic.

5. I far as timing goes 6 minutes left approaching last passage, 1 wrong on it.

6. Read slowly and understand everything. Blowing through it and missing the bottom line with screw you in the end everytime.

That was my one taste of success on verbal, and that what how my brain was working that day. Normally It doesn't and i get 28/40. But with that mentality 35/40.

Its easier said than done. But I try to read that list before my verbal so I get into verbal mode from P.S mode

although we should probably ask the guy who gets 15s lol.

fas376 04-15-2012 03:17 PM

Anyone else here taken AAMC 11?

411309 04-15-2012 03:36 PM

aamc was actually one of my better ones. 10/11/10 31. I would have gotten a 12 on the PS but I got obliterated by that one circular motion passage.

wanderedtoolong 04-15-2012 03:50 PM

I did 10 today- will be doing 11 next Saturday most likely- wanted to do it more than a week out but my work schedule went to crap and it looks like it'll have to wait. 10 felt awful but turned out ok, but I really, really need to learn some orgo.

Doctoor 04-15-2012 05:15 PM

I'm going to take a FL Verbal exam every day from now until my exam on the 28th (unless TPR runs out by then) and I'll try to get my verbal to a consistent 8 or 9.

I feel the most comfortable with physical for some reason, biology has been a crap shoot for me, verbal has been the one that's sucking the most. If I get that one up in these last 2 weeks and continue my turtle-speed improvements on physical and bio maybe I can pull off that 27.

Doctoor 04-15-2012 05:19 PM

Oh and any tips on this? I have noticed that anything that has to do with ancient greece/rome or greek mythology I've been sucking on. Not sure what I can do in 2 weeks.

You can do it bro, no worries. Verbal is as random as ever. I've heard people averaging 12s and getting 6s on the real thing, and I've heard of people averaging 6s and getting 12s. You never know. Keep your head up

pfaction 04-15-2012 06:56 PM

How I wish to average higher than my usual.

MrNeuro 04-15-2012 07:59 PM

taking aamc7 right now

PS: FUUCK MAN i didn't look at the time once and i took my time but ****tttttt I had 8 min for the last 10 questions

fuuuuuuuck im guessing an 8 or 9 if i would have timed myself and actually given myself enough time i would say a 11-12 cuz that earthquake passage was doable i just didn't have time to go back to the passage

VR: fuuuuck almost ran out of time again was super rushed on the last 2-3 passages (skimmed the last passage)

SHIIIIITTTT
7 OR 8
mann im totally getting sub 30 on this test FUUUCKKK MEEEEEEEE FUUCK

BS:

that passage about development RUINED ME the rest was relatively easy i freaked out a little when i saw the nmr stuff but then calmed down once i got to the question about it

AND WTF WAS THAT FARAD QUESTION WTF WTF WTF!!!!

Score: 34

PS 13
VR 9
BS 12

disappointed because this score could be AT LEAST 3 pts HIGHER missed more than half of the questions about earthquakes due to timing (which i carelessly didn't pay attention to) and i for some reason was slow w/ verbal this time and had like 11 min for the last two passages -.-

it seems like im almost at the precipice of a 35-37/38 i think a solid week of nailing those fine details will help get me there. im fairly confident w/ my PS when i first started it was my weakest subject(never took a real physics course not even in high school) but now that im seeing consistent scores in PS i think im finally going to hit BS which coming into this was what i was the best at.

anytime i score below that its due to stupid ass mistakes and timing...

misseskwee 04-15-2012 08:36 PM

I think I remember someone had mentioned before that they never learned taxonomy, I'm not sure which thread it was from, and I stumbled on this clip from Community, the tv show. It's freaking hilarious at the end.. lol. Just thought you guys might wanna hear it, if you haven't yet.. :-)

Yeah man, I realized it's hard to get a 12/13 on BS/PS because of the time constraint. The questions themselves aren't bad, I just end up going slower than I need to sometimes.

typicalindian 04-15-2012 08:52 PM

ughhhhhh I don't know if I should just not take this 28th test because idk what to do about verbal...I guess I'm ok with my science scores though they could be better...****

my interpretation of the test:

PS: Started out easy and got much harder towards the end
VR: um...is this in english?
BS: not too bad

edit: @pfaction...are we the same person? wtf lol this is weird

The exact ****ing same. Look at what I posted on my run down of 8. Keep in mind that I didn't study for 2 days and that I zipped through the entire exam except for Verbal...which somehow was my lowest score?

Also, I learned a valuable lesson. If you're gonna take the MCAT in two weeks and get drunk the night two weeks before your exam,

you're gonna have a bad time.

ughhh I just went through my PS section. 2 answers I changed from right to wrong. 2 answers I got wrong because I mixed up the definition of the words with something else. The other questions that i actually didn't know how to do were all based in a single passage as well. Damn I know I can get a 13..maybe even a 14 in PS if I fix these tiny tiny gaps in my knowledge. Oh well, back to reviewing I guess

Time to go shopping...and come back to figure out a new verbal plan.. my scores in verbal have been 8,9,9,8, and now 7 :-(

Ugh I know what you mean. I noticed that a lot of questions i got wrong in PS were either stupid mistakes (not reading correctly) or changing my answer from my initial gut feeling.... grr

anyone using BR Bio get extremely frustrated? I feel like half the q's come from random background knowledge, it's so annoying.
