Mine is 10 minutes away. I actually had to register for a location out of state but was lucky enough to switch to nearby place that's only 10 minutes away. What part of CA are you in ?

Since you brought that up, I was actually at Staples Center when they played the Raptors a few years back. Remember that game when he scored his career high of 81 points? Yea, I was there.

DUDDEE WTF I'm so jealous...I was a junior in high school in my AP physics class when I heard the news...I literally remember where I was. Best performance of all time (Wilt doesn't count)

I'm taking my test in LA! --Louisiana

wanderedtoolong 04-21-2012 06:44 AM

I'm in Raleigh and I think the test center is about 20 min away. I'm actually going to drive there tomorrow, just so I know where I'm going. Who is working this week? I feel like I'll be useless at work, but kind of glad for the distraction. I know my boss is out Friday so I'll probably take a half day and go for a short hike or something to chill out.

Google maps says that my testing site it 25mins from my house, although I'm sure it'll take ~40 considering traffic, etc.. my mom's driving me. I could drive there, but I think it'll be better for my nerves if someone just drove me :)

And then I fly to the other side of the world the next day!

And wow it's 10:05 AM in texas and I'm just now sleeping. Probably gonna get up around 6 pm. I really need to fix my pattern before saturday :(

spiceupyolife 04-21-2012 08:38 AM

As a second time text taker, I would say driving to the test site is a good idea if its not too far away. I think most of the time these testing centers are small or attached to one of the "learning centers" so it could be hard to find. I drove right passed my testing center the first time. Where I went, they let one person in at a time. So just a heads up that you may not start RIGHT at 1pm (thats when mine is at).

Felt the same as others, where I got 7/7/9...

I hit it twice (lol) but it was earlier on where the passages weren't as long.

ALSO PLEASE GET INTO A REGULAR SLEEPING SCHEDULE TONIGHT!

I woke up at 11;30 today after hitting snooze on my alarm clock at 9 AM :( and just got ready, would have been super late and unmentally prepared for MCAT...:thumbdown

Yea, I'm going to bring earplugs for sure. And I usually wake up around 10am. I try to sleep around 11pm the night before but I can't sleep until around midnight or 1am. Argh.

AAMC10, here we go!

PS: Everything was alright. This is my second time taking it but I forgot a lot of stuff. Holy **** at Passage VII, I marked each question. Inbetween, here and there, I marked stuff I wasn't sure. But Passage VII, all the way, I marked it. Wasn't sure about one of the half life questions either, and decibel equation with logs. Overall, I'm thinking it's not that bad, so I'm guessing at least 11.

VR: Hereeeee we go. The people who say that "Oh, AAMC has a harsh curve on VR because everyone gets them right"--a ****ing LIAR. I don't even understand half of these passages, ever. Major ****ing thumbs DOWN. :thumbdown Wingin' it on the MCAT, hope for 9, done done.

Relaxing because now it's WS and BS :)

WS: lol

BS: Was this ridiculously easy or was it just me? Only stopped to think on like 2-3 questions and even then I was like "well...A or D, B or C? **** it."

I don't even remember taking previous AAMC's, that's how awesome my short term memory is. That's why I suck at Verbal--I can read something and go "what did I just read?" It's why BS and PS are better - it's in front of you for a longer amount of time, and much easier to interpret. But no, I didn't review, and I still probably got the same things wrong haha.

Nice!! Keep up the good work dude

adamsnij 04-21-2012 02:26 PM

I am gonna try this running dialogue thing for AAMC 10

Went for a run before to get the blood flowing, feeling pretty good.

PS: Not too bad, the last passage on particle acceleration was of the wtf type. But the rest seemed manageable. Got somewhere between 9-11.

VR: Been getting more and more difficult each test. I had to guess on one question, but was pretty good on timing. Passages were pretty interesting at least. Prediction: 7-8

Writing: skipped it

BS: Before: I wasn't focused on AAMC 9 and I was pressed for time and got my lowest BS score: 9. This time I'm hoping to pick up the pace and mark ones I have to guess on.
After: o-chem portion was fair, some of the bio passages confused me. Felt about the same as I did after the BS on AAMC 9. Prediction: 9-10

Overall prediction: 28
Actual Score: 9/9/10

While I am impressed by my prediction skills, I am not quite as happy with my result, especially on PS cause I thought I was improving.

1) Agreed! What the **** was that particle acceleration bull****?!
2) VR gets more and more harder, yeah, definitely agree with you on that.
3) Don't skip writing! You have to factor that in your "burn out" feeling for Bio.

Yeah, people say AAMC11 was brutal. Let's see how I do on that, for reals.

But this has me super worried. I'm trying to do a graph with my overall GPA, but I've gone to three schools and it's really, really messy.

typicalindian 04-21-2012 02:47 PM

Between finals and classes I won't have enough time for both AAMC 10 and 11. Should I take 11 instead of 10?

Whomp 04-21-2012 03:07 PM

Just took AAMC #11:

12 PS / 11 VR / 9 BS

F****! I did TERRIBLE on the biological sciences, any suggestions on how to raise my score in 1 week? Organic chemistry was my worst part by far.... I need to get at least a 10 BS for my projected school.

I would take 11... it is overall harder in my opinion, and may make for a better review.

Agreed, 11. Everyone says it's the hardest and closest to an actual MCAT. Saved for Weds!

Heads; I get above 33 and I apply MSTP, especially out of state. Closer to 35, the more I apply near NY.
Tails: I get 33 or below, only MD, and apply for MD/PhD when in med school.

I live in NY, I know some of the "most interesting" hospitals you've ever heard of. Wait, did I say I know? More like I'm ****ing going to them next month. Well, the ones in lower NY anyways.

You're doing very well on your MCATs so I wouldn't stress it. My verbal is the limiting factor here.

It might just be stress. Try to take it easy.

What's everyone's back up plan? If I do poorly, I'm going to hardcore study in June and take the June date

If I do bad, I don't even know what to do. I might just think it through and re-take it with my younger bro that's planning on taking it this September. That'll be a late re-take but that'd mean I'd have to apply next year instead.

By "do bad", I mean low to mid 20s. If I get somewhere around high 20s, I'm not gonna retake since I'm applying DO as well.

kryptonian 04-21-2012 07:25 PM

Just finished AAMC8. I couldn't help but lol'ed upon seeing the score in bitterness. A little of summary in the order of the test I took:

AAMC5: 10/8/12
AAMC4: 12/7/11
AAMC7: 10/6/12
AAMC8: 10/4/12

So, with this increasing delta of VR score trend, upon taking AAMC 11, the VR may become 0 ? Do you guys think I should void the coming real deal ?

The other person is me, but perhaps I've already been eliminated from the MD/PhD pool, given my VR trend.

A VR of 4? The lowest I had was a 6, but i've been fluctuating around 7-9, but on average around 7-8. Maybe the 4 was just a fluke? Did you feel like you were guessing mostly on VR? That's how I feel on that section, but I still manage to get slightly over half right. Either just lucky or I'm just mediocre at VR.

And I don't think I'm going to void no matter what I feel like after.

So, with this increasing delta of VR score trend, upon taking AAMC 11, the VR may become 0 ? Do you guys think I should void the coming real deal ?

The other person is me, but perhaps I've already been eliminated from the MD/PhD pool, given my VR trend.

Hey man, keep your head up. I think you should take a day off from verbal. I was scoring consistent 6s and I took a day off, re-evaluated my strategy, and then took AAMC 6's verbal and got a 10. You'd be surprised how much a day off can build up your confidence
