East Coast full scope FM residency
I'm interested in practicing in a rural area, but am likely to stay east coast for residency (though I know lots of good unopposed or full scope programs on west coast). Regardless of whether unopposed or opposed, can anyone recommend a few east coast FM residencies that would provide great overall full-scope training to prepare to practice in a rural area? I'm looking from New England down to North Carolina.
The only program I've had recommended is MAHEC in Asheville, but I'm hoping there are few more quality programs out there. Thanks for your input! |
Ive heard EMMC in Bangor is a strong program for rural training...Bangor isn't a bad place to live for a few years.

Check out my program in Williamsport, PA (Susquehanna Health). It's an unopposed community-hospital based residency with emphasis on strong OB. Also a great option if you are a DO--plenty of training in OMT. And if you're an MD, we teach OMT to you, too. :)

Thanks for the replies, I'll check those both out! Anybody have any experience with WVU's rural track? : http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/eastern/som/Residency/

VCU is reopening it's rural track this year. (ie, has interns starting in July)
MAHEC Hendersonville does more OB than Asheville, and has more elective time if you wanted to get extra colonoscopy or procedural time. Some of the SC programs seem pretty full spectrum, but I didn't look that far south. |
Do yourself a favor and look at McLeod Regional in Florence, SC. Unopposed, well-established FM with excellent inpatient exposure, a nice ambulatory clinic, scope training and better than avg pay for residents. All this and 70 miles from Myrtle Beach.
