We have all encountered several humorous/usefull acronyms and pneumonics for our studying at some point. I think that sharing them could prove to be quite amusing.

My personal favorite is for the cranial nerves (I learned these in 2000 and still remember them).

O Olfactory
O Optic
O Occulomotor
To Trochlear
Touch Trigeminal
And Abducens
Feel Facial
Vaginas Vestibulochoclear
Gets Glosopharyngeal
Vinnie Vagus
All Accessory
Hard Hypoglossal

Great Stuff. I love it! Thanks for sharing and by all means keep them coming.

Mneumonics? I guess I'm not much of a speller.

Am I in a spelling bee now? If you would have asked me to use coming in a sentence I might have gotten it right. Arnold can use it in a sentence...

You would have gotten it if you asked for the word origin or the part of speech. ;)

this is why i never looked at this thread..i was wondering what pneumonics they were talking about... im sitting on a pneumonic chair as we speak

i love the sites!!!
i love them ..makes memorizing fun..i wish someone had some for the alphabet bk when i was five !

haha...those spelling bee kids are so annoying...I want to hurt them badly, especially when they ask for multiple pronounciations

I know this isn't medically related, but here goes:

For the old trig functions: (SOH, CAH, TOA)
Some
Old
Hag

Caught
A
Hippie

Tripping
On
Acid

It doesn't have to be medicaly related. What truly matters is that it makes some reference to drugs or sex, or perhaps something unbelievable silly, for the purposes of studying.

From my EMT teacher:

4 major types of shock:

CHOD

Cardiogenic
Hypovolemic
Obstructive
Distributive

And for paramedics when they can't figure out what they need to do, just vomit:

Vitals
O2
Monitor
IV
Transport

YES!!!!

an M4 told me about this one... "what are the 4 birds of the mediastinum? azygoose (azygous v), esophagoose (esophagus), hemiazygoose (hemiazygous v), and thoracic duck (thoracic duct)." it's incredibly silly and absolutely useless, but i thought it was funny.

Branches of the facial nerve:
The Zebra Bit My Cock

Wrist bones:
Some lovers try positions that they can't handle.

Cranial nerves:
Oh oh oh to touch and feel virgin girls' vaginas and hymens.

I  mnemonics.

i can uze this in medz skool rite??questionmark?

The version of the cranial nerves mnemonic in my anatomy class was so PC in comparison!

Oh oh oh to touch and feel very good velvet, ahhh.

To remember the carpal bones or bones of the wrist (from bottom to top, left to right in anatomical position)

Some - Scaphoid
Lovers - Lunate
Try - Triquetrium
Positions - Pisiform
That - Trapezium
They - Trapezoid
Can't - Capitate
Handle - Hamate

And this one was taught to us by our anatomy professor: to remember which spinal nerves (whether posterior or frontal) receive sensory information or send out motor information, just remember that gay men "feel" on their back and "do" on the front...if you know what I mean. Lol this one I've never forgotten.

Here's a doosey:

Please
Excuse
My
Dear
Aunt
Sally

We learned this one in paramedic school to remember the type/functionality of each cranial nerve.
S
= sensory, M = motor, B = both

Some

don't forget to check for PMS! Pulse, Motor, Sensory
and take the SAMPLE history
S signs/symptoms
A allergies
M medications
P pertinent history
L last thing eaten
E events leading up to scenario

I swear EMS is all abb and mnemonics

Wrist bones:
Some lovers try positions that they can't handle.

Cranial nerves:
Oh oh oh to touch and feel virgin girls' vaginas and hymens.

Learned both these in undergrad too...was pretty awesome considering we had a hot anatomy teacher! haha

The worst pneumonic ever is the plague, of course.

Nice, definitely a helpful post...will help me on my exams!

Carpal bones:

Slowly
Lower
Tilly's
Panties
To
The
Curly
Hairs

Never heard this one! Our class stuck to the Some Lovers Try Positions.....

I actually think they're both equally effective in the end though. Don't always have to be more provocative to stick.

I like my mnemonics to make some sense in regard to what they represent.

Leukocytes in order of % in adults:

Now Let's Make Everything Better.

Neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils.

:rolleyes::cool:

I like all of the sex related ones, but I had trouble keeping the names of all the girls straight. I would be in the middle of an exam thinking, "Wait...was Sally on her knees, or was that prostitute's name Karen?"

I know this isn't medically related, but here goes:

For the old trig functions: (SOH, CAH, TOA)

Tripping

Can't believe someone else on here knows this one! Haha. My version is a little bit different though:

Some Old Hippie, Caught Another Hippie, Tripping On Acid

I learned this one in 10th grade and never forgot it. I still use it for projectile motion problems and such on the MCAT.
