Just to clarify, as Pragma and AA have mentioned, if you do not have summer funding, then there's nothing stopping you from working during the summer months. However, if you have a position that's "psych-related" or that basically uses your credentials or may be even remotely construed as representing the university, then you best be obtaining prior approval, signing paperwork, etc. If you're working at the local golf course, hole in the wall bar, bookstore, etc., then hop to it. No one's stopping you. Hell, most of the first years go home during the summer anyway.
