So if you have not yet graduated from college, there are NO essays for NYU??

That would be sweet.

Last year's essays for Penn State:

1)Explain the negative aspects of medicine that you considered in making this career decision.

2) Is there a unique aspect of your application that should be considered by the admissions committee?

3) Explain why you decided to apply to Penn State College of Medicine.

Anyone has essay prompts for Mount Sinai?

2 essays :(. The first one is required, the second one is optional (looks like one of those damn "optional" essays).

1) What makes you special, someone who will add to the Mount Sinai community? (suggested 250 words or less)

2) Indicate the reasons for your specific interest in Mount Sinai. (suggested 200 words or less)

Required: What events in your life influenced your decision to become a physician?
This is to be an original essay written and edited by you and different from the AMCAS essay. (Limit response to 500 words.)

Optional: What additional information, if any, do you wish to provide the Admissions Committee that may be important in the evaluation of your candidacy? You may include anything in this essay that you feel is relevant.

For example, many applicants have encountered various challenges in their backgrounds (e.g., coming from a low-income family, having to work a large number of hours per week while going to college, experiencing educational disadvantages in their pre-college years, following an unusually difficult course of study, changes in schools, time away from school, etc.). The Admissions Committee takes many factors into consideration when assessing performance. If your path to medicine has not been direct, please elaborate. If you feel that you have encountered significant disadvantages and would like the Admissions Committee to take them into consideration, you are invited (not required) to provide this additional information. (Limit response to 500 words.)

For Reapplicants: Individuals who are reapplying are required to submit a statement indicating what has changed since the previous application (e.g., additional academic work, new letters of evaluation, work or volunteer experience, etc.). (Limit response to 500 words.)

Also have this "Life Activities" section to fill out that seems like it's just like the activities section of the AMCAS.

Bump, any others out there?

Thanks

Has anyone filled the NYU portion out? If so, did you list items or write an essay?

I don't know how many people got UWisconsin's secondary yet, but for those who did, are you planning on just copying and pasting your activities from the AMCAS to the "Life Activities" section?

Also, how are you going about doing the essay? It's pretty much the same thing as the personal statement, but they said it has to be different.

Do most schools wait to send out secondaries after your application has been verified? I was just wondering because I received secondaries from Chicago and GWU when my application wasn't verified. Are there other schools that do this as well?

Jefferson wants to know if you have anything else you want to say, but they limit it to 500 characters. I don't think that really counts as an essay.

If you are MSTP, nothing comes free, here's the essay:

"Please describe briefly in the space below what FIRST sparked your interest in science and excited you about research"

They also refer to that block as a place for explanations for derogatory information elsewhere in the secondary -- I think it's if you've ever been convicted of a felony, tell them about it there, or something like that -- so I'm thinking it's really not necessary for most of us to put anything there.

Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine (Credit: HelenaP):
It is recommended that you use a maximum of 25 single-spaced lines for your response to each of the first six questions. Please use a standard size "font" in typing your responses, and double space if you wish to designate paragraphs in response to any question(s). If you feel you have already answered any of the questions in the Personal Comments section of your AMCAS application, simply indicate that this is the case by typing "please refer to my AMCAS application" following the question(s) to which this applies.

1. What do you consider a valuable experience in your personal development? This might be a decision you have made, an achievement of which you are particularly proud, or a person who has influenced your life.

2. Describe briefly how you have dealt with a personal or academic problem you have encountered

3. How did you reach your decision to enter medicine? Describe your participation in any health care or other activities which reinforced your decision.

4. What self-education, research, or independent scholastic work have you undertaken and what do you feel you have accomplished in this work?

5. If you will not be enrolled as a full-time student during the current academic year, please explain what you will be doing prior to your planned matriculation into medical school.

6. Please use this space to bring the information contained on your AMCAS application up-to-date. Indicate grades earned, alterations in your proposed course work or graduation date, address changes, additions to your list of activities, and anything else you feel we should know.

Case Western Secondary Essay Questions

Essay (Required)
The Admissions Committee is interested in gaining insight into you as a person. Type or Copy and Paste a brief essay on a subject outside of medicine, which has been an area of great interest to you. Please limit your essay to 1 page (about 3,500 characters), and leave a blank line between paragraphs.

Research Essay (Required)
If you have had experience doing research or other scholarly work, please describe your experience, including the question you pursued and how you approached it, your results and interpretation of the results, and any thoughts about what this experience meant to you. Please limit your response to 1 page (about 3,500 characters), and leave a blank line between paragraphs. In addition, please add your thoughts about why this research experience has motivated you to consider a career as a physician investigator (limit your response up to an additional page).

Affiliations
Has any member of your family ever been affiliated with Case Western Reserve University and/or Cleveland Clinic as a student, staff, or faculty member? If so, please explain. If your answer to this question is 'no', please leave this area blank.

Fee: $85

Is the part of the research question having to do with being a physician investigator included on the MD secondary, or is that only for MD/Phd?

I believe both questions are for all applicants...

You might want to ask ToGodALLGlory. He or she posted these questions in the other thread. I just copied them into the 'official' thread in hopes that it starts to fill in more...

1. Please indicate what you are doing during the 2006-2007 academic year. If in school, list courses. if working, let us know something about the nature of your job.

2. Please share with us something about yourself that is not addressed elsewhere in your application and which could be helpful to the Admissions Committee as we review your file.

Can use space on the form or additional pages.
(Q1 has about 4 lines of space and Q2 has the rest of the page)

I believe that the physician investigator part is only if you apply to the cleveland clinic program.

According to coco11 earlier in this thread, it's required for everyone. Anyone SURE?

It's required for everyone. If you don't want to write one, just say "I'm not interested in the education your school offers in training physician investigators. I just want the M.D. to make a few hundred thou a year and retire in Punta Gorda, Florida with a nice boat, collecting seashells."
