It's really quite simple: if you strongly believe you could do much better either on the entire test or on any given section, and if you are willing to study again, then retake. But yours is a good score. If you are in CA, your score is good enough to get a secondary at any UC. If you are somewhere else, apply to your state schools, your score should be more than enough. If you have no other weaknesses in your application, an 8 in VR is not something that will disqualify you immediately from any school, especially with a 4.0.
