How has the studying been going fellow 5/31ers? Coming up on 6 weeks left and I just want to get it over with. Moving into final content review phase then final practice test phase by May.

The score release is July 3rd I think? Not too late at all! Adcoms will just be looking things over at that point. Remember your app has to be verified and then sent to the schools first. They do not need your scores to do that. I say take it when you know you will be ready and get the highest score possible, May, June, July...doesn't matter. Just don't have doors shut in your face because your rushed it.

Hey folks. I was originally scheduled for the April 28th date, but decided to delay the MCAT to this date in favor of getting some degree requirements out of the way earlier.
to you all! I will be balancing MCAT studying with school work.

California has a bunch of pre-meds or something... or just not enough test centers. So how are we all doing? I am switching to AAMC tests from Kaplan tests because I am convinced that Kaplan was overestimating my scores. Lo and behold, I took an AAMC test and its 3 points below my Kaplan average. (although, I did gun it and take AAMC#11, which is known to be the hardest...) what do you guys think about this?

Postponed from April 28 to this date but have been busy with finals/papers that will be done on May 9. Have yet to do a full length yet and still stuck on content review...thinking I may need to push it back to June so that I can have uninterrupted studying time.

How are you all preparing for the MCAT? Are you using a test prep course, home study, etc.? Which company are you using?

Registered last week with the original plan of 3/24. HA! Studying during the holidays was nil. Well no excuse now. I'm using SN2ed's suggested materials and schedule. Been studying on and off for a month. 2011 TPRH Verbal on the way - Woo hoo! BR Verbal is annoying. Good luck all!

Using TBR, I am slowly working through content review. Unfortunately, I wont be done with content review until the end of this month. When I started studying, I decided not to do any of the practice passages at the end of the chapters because I have learned that I am not good at remembering how to solve the problems during review.
However, I'm now really questioning that decision because I don't know if I will have time to work through the review passages + practice tests in a month. I also have EK 1001 books that I would like to work through, but it seems overly ambitious to me to do all three in such a short time. (Practice Tests + TBR End of Chapter Review Passages + EK books). Hmm... |

Anyone else taking it in Tampa? I took it in Tampa last August; kind of frustrated I have to show up at the same place and do it all over again

4 weeks from Thursday, how's everyone feeling? I was getting pretty crazy past few weeks but I'm calming down and starting to not worry so much about it. It's just a test, it won't be as hard as we think it is.

Sadly, I am still working on content review. I will take a practice test once that is over to assess whether this test date will work for me. I already am a switchover from April. Haha.

Hey all,
Wishing everyone fantastic luck on the 31st - "the only way out is through." Wondering if anyone has any last minute tips on how to get those last few points. I've completed Kaplan On-Site with their FLs 1-3 and AAMC FLs 4,5,7,8, and 11. My average is a 34, my mode a 33, and my range 33-36. I have also gone through content review from all of BR Physics 1 and 2, and will also have gone trough all of BRs chemistry by this weekend. Just curious if anyone was in a similar spot and could speak about how they broke through the wall. See you on the other side. |

Lets get it guys. Had to reschedule from a 5/24 to a 5/31 test date in a completely different state. Trying to push through it without feeling the burn out. Took Kaplan 1-8, all 8 AAMC's, and trying to go through all the FL's in these last days. Home stretch everybody!

does anyone know if the curve is similar to the aamc FLs??? like how if you only miss 3-4 questions you get an 11? or is it more lenient on the real thing?

God only knows, well and the people at AAMC lol but their website says each test is curved individually. I am just super nervous now after reading the threads about recent MCATs, I am expecting a brutal test next week.

You want a brutal test, it separates people more. if everyone has a predisposition to know most of the q's and get it right if you make a simple error or mistake the curve exacerbates it more

Good point, btw does anybody know if we are allowed to do a memory dump on our scratch paper during the tutorial? I get that we should know all the stuff already but i just think it would help me to have something to fall back on.

Done with full lengths!!! Pleasantly surprised when I found out I got a 36 (13/10/13) on AAMC 11, peaking at the right time. Was scared when I saw my score dip to 31 on AAMC 4. Been studying since last May.
At this point, I'm done with content...I realized from AAMC 11 they don't really test you on really obscure facts...I was gonna review metabolism but they don't ask #ATPs, etc so I'm just gonna look at my "mistake log" that I've created along the way. Good luck to everyone! |

Whoops, posted it into an old thread, didn't mean to but can't seem to figure out how to delete it. Here's a more appropriate thread.
Not gonna lie, feeling super stressed out right now and feeling pretty dumb honestly. Can't seem to break an 8 on the PS part of the practice MCAT and I'm taking it Thursday. Gotten 10-11 on the verbal (I read a lot), and 10 on the bio (physiology major) but can't seem to get above an 8 on the PS of the practice tests. Have done 3 - 9, though only the PS part on 7 and 9 because I know that's the one I need to focus on. My scores have been going up a little bit, I was on the edge for a 9 on PT9. All of my tests have been the old paper ones with 77 questions on the PS and BS. I took one PT from Kaplan, though it was a free one that was through the school to get us to sign up for their classes and ended up getting a 30 (PS 10/V 12/BS 8). Kinda freaking out because I've heard that the practice test AAMC questions are easier than the real MCAT. Not sure what else to do, I analyze all of the questions I missed and while my scores are improving by a little, I only have one PT and two days left and I've probably read over the sections I miss the most about three times now. On top of that I'm focusing so much on my PS that I have not even glanced at the writing section and haven't been taking the bio or studying ochem as much. Overall:

That's your problem. Don't do the 77 question ones. They're not representative of the real mcat, They have verbal like passages in the longer tests that the shorter one doesn't have anymore. Spend some money to get 10 and 11, you'd be crazy not to attempt them. Do the short tests and see how you do. Maybe just do 11 because you really don't have time. Not taking the bio is pretty insane. I think you should probably void this test.

Is it just me or do you guys also go the website everyday to check if the scores were released -- sometimes more than once a day? Even though I know they will only be released next week, I cannot control myself. :/

i really dont like the idea of it and i think obamacare should not go into effect but at the same time kinda hoping that it would reduce the number of my competitors......
ah. in the long run tho, it'll be bad for all of us. 30% reduction in income? that is HUGE. |

On the other hand, I'm mostly concerned about the economics of forcing insurance companies to take patients with pre-existing conditions without increasing their premiums. It'll certainly cause a rise in the cost of insurance and increase the demand for hospital care. So depending on the rates set by gov't health insurance, doctors may end up doing better (due to increased demand), or worse (lowered reimbursements and gov't laws preventing Drs. from refusing to treat the poor/elderly). Ultimately, I think medicine will become less competitive; the doctors will win and the patients will lose (on average). Last edited by Raisins4Sunday; 06-28-2012 at 03:29 PM. |

Im dying. Took off of work today because of the anxiety. Ive already convinced myself that I did bad and have started studying again. I will register for the Aug 10 exam once I have the official scores. I was scoring 32s on the practice test, but the physical science section raped me and I would be lucky to get a 6! Even if I did my average of 12-13s in the other sections, I know my adviser is going to tell me to retake if I get a 6 in PS. :-(
