I'm a third year student, my brother has been practicing for about 7 years and did a very good program. He has been bumbing me out with stories of not being treated like a real doctor, disrespect, limited priv at hospitals and closed insurance plans? He has
become very negative about Podiatry and says he was lied to?? He was a very positive person so I am scared. He has also told me it is impossible to pay off your student loans and don't expect a job offer because there are very few jobs in Podiatry?? The school just blew me off when I tried to talk to them about this. He keeps using the word Ponzi scheme. Has anyone else had this experience yet with Podiatrist's in the real world? |

You'll find someone that fails in their career in every profession out there. Sometimes it's their fault and sometimes it isn't. I wouldn't put too much stock in the experiences of others. Trust your gut.

That's what I am afraid of! My brother never failed at anything and he is unhappy now! I had better grades than him and he wants me to apply to Medical School even though I have 3 years of Pod School in already? He directed me to another site written by practicing Pods in the real world and it wasn't pretty!!!! |

Has he been unsuccessful with his Surgery Boards? That could be a reason he is having trouble getting on insurances and having issues with hospital privileges. Has he stepped on the wrong toes, and now has issues with not "being treated like a real doctor"? I have been in practice a little longer than your brother and have had to deal with these issues on occasion, but if handled smartly, they can be turned in our favor. Ponzi scheme? Did he invest unwisely, and now has to fear for his finances and can't pay back his student loans or is his financial stability in jeopardy because of it. There are those who make mistakes and face adversity and chose to become negative because of it. Others learn from their mistakes and use the adversity to grow stronger and make sure to try to not put themselves in that position ever again. I've been lucky in the last year, and after 10 years of struggling (mostly because of bad choices I made with who to work with), I'm in a very stable and strong group who have survived for over 35 years and have faced each challenge over the years and overcame them. They are a brilliant group of guys who are really on the cutting edge, both professionally and financially, despite all the changes they've seen in medicine.
