Hello all, I've been lurking this forum for awhile now, trying to gain some advice. I interviewed and was accepted at OCPM. I found OCPM to be a relaxing atmosphere which I find comforting. They seem to really care about their students (at least this is the impression I received). I do have five other interviews lined up out of which I think I am only going to attend Temple and Scholl.
I've heard positive and negative things about OCPM. I know there are a lot of threads about people comparing schools and what not. But can anyone tell me about Temple and Scholl? I have only attended one interview so far, and from what I saw at OCPM I really liked it. Do you think it would be stupid of me to not attend the interviews and just accept OCPM's offer? Sorry, I know this is kind of a hopeless post, but I'm kind of stressing about what I should do and who I should visit. Another thing I need to worry about is cost of travel. Thanks for your help

You are going to be spending the next four years, paying thousands of dollars and placing your future in the hands of a podiatry school. It would only make sense to me to visit and interview at other podiatry schools. You want at least one school to compare to OCPM. I read a post from a couple years ago about a kid who was set on OCPM but as soon as he visited Temple, he knew that Temple was where he wanted to be.
I suggest doing a search in both this forum and the podiatry students forum and you'll find a lot of info about Temple and Scholl. Good luck! |

Do you think the fact that OCPM doesn't integrate its courses with DO's or MD's decreases the effectiveness of the training as a physician? I noticed that in my interview process, the schools with integration focused more on the "train you as a physician first, podiatrist second". At OCPM, do you get that same physician first philosophy?

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry for my rambling. SuperFeisty, this is a good question, hopefully someone who is attending/attended OCPM can answer.

The question is excellent, but the bottom line is that you really have to choose the school that's the best fit for you. Yes, each school has a different way of training, but it's difficult to know which is the right method for you until you've experienced the varieties, and unfortunately that's not possible without school hopping.
If you work hard and are a good student, you will obtain an excellent education from any of the schools. You also must decide which geographic you like, the cost of travel back and forth to home during breaks, holidays, etc. Over the years I've trained residents who graduated from most of the schools (with the exception of the 2 newer schools) and I've been impressed by most of the students I' ve encountered. Once in a while I find a "dud", but that will occur from any school and any profession. Good luck, you really can't make a wrong choice when it comes to the actual educational process. |
