For the purposes of venting and seeing what other people have to deal with, do you have a residency director (or preceptor or co resident or coworker) that you find hard not to hate?
Do they play favorites among the residents? Are they completely MIA and you can never talk to them? Or are they overly nitpicky and have control issues? Are they disorganized and completely messed up some aspect of your residency? Do they have any clinical expertise or do you inwardly roll your eyes when they talk? Do you find yourself thinking, if they were a coworker would you trust them? Would you even talk to them? Do you wonder how they got their job in the first place? Do you wonder what you had done to make them treat you like dirt? I have nearly a year's worth of ridiculous examples and with each day wonder how I was unlucky to have to deal with this. |

It sounds like your residency experience was similar to mine. Keep your head up. The finish line is in sight, and very soon you'll get to walk out of that place and never come back. I'm not advising you to burn a bridge, just reminding you that this is only a temporary situation.
It does get better after residency. My career hasn't gone (and probably will never go) where I wanted it to go when I was a student, but I have a good job and a good work/life balance. In times like these, that's all you can ask for. |

Why do you think the majority of residencies are this painful? Is it the ego that's held within directors?
