Fine then, I'll post the icebreaker...

What would you do on your ideal first date with someone?

I'd probably say a cooking class. It's interactive and makes conversation easy, they usually serve wine, plus you get to find out if the other person is uptight or easygoing (and if they can cook at all )

I would probably go to First Friday if I were in Philly - basically all the art galleries are open downtown and there's free hors d'oeuvres and wine. So, free night of cool art guaranteeing something to talk about if you have nothing to talk about and also insight into compatibility and taste. And if that fails, at least there's wine. Mostly fun but also practical!

Man....this was actually a hard question.

Ok, so I like having a large chunk of time, or at least the opportunity of a large chunk of time, with someone right away.

So I would say an early afternoon movie. Early afternoon as in right after lunch. But before we go to the movie, we go to Target to get candy and also walk around for a bit. You can tell a lot about someone by what they gravitate toward in Target, and there are so many opportunities for conversation and play in Target.

The movie would either need to be comedy or sci-fi. Comedy because you it is interesting to see what other people laugh at...and sci fi because there is usually good conversation afterward, even if the movie blew.

Then, coffee afterward. Talking about a movie with someone over coffee is awesome. The beauty of this is that if we are digging each other, we will naturally want to have dinner together. If not, then the date will be over.

But if we go to dinner, then something fun. Like sushi or Ethiopian or Indian. Some kind of food where sharing and experimentation is encouraged.

If we had dinner...then I also probably want at least a 20 minute makeout session when I get dropped off. If no dinner...a hug and a lie about calling me soon will suffice.

If not the above date...then I want to go on Daisy's cooking lesson date

I'm sure many of you long time '15ers see this coming... but I like to go dancing for a first date. Not only is it something that I love on my own time and see as a huge plus in someone else, but it's a good way to just break down physical barriers and everything pretty quick.

Cooking at home is good, too.

Movies are only ok when they're at the $3 theater with the couches and if the date is ok with talking and stuff during the movie.

Food out is eh... I don't like buying dinner for every date. Gets expensive for a lowly college student.

That was the first date of the last guy I dated per my suggestion. I asked him later what he thought when I suggested it. He thought exactly....well...exactly what you would have thought

The reason I suggested it was because our first date was on Valentine's Day and it was just way to freakin' cliche for me. The idea of going out to eat made me want to hurl. So I suggested we hang out at my house, cook food, and watch a movie.

Flow's date, inner monologue: "Well I'm already dancing with him, I should probably just hook up with him too."

Oh, and I guess I should add that I didn't go on a proper date with my bf until we were officially a couple. Very typical of my college. He's more than made up for it since though
Haha that's not what I was getting at with the dancing!

It's just psychology stuff.. the more comfortable you are with someone physically, the more likely you're comfortable overall, which makes cool conversations easier and what not.

I think the date has to be tailored to the person you are with. Here is my thought process:

I like to start with something fun. Something that can take the pressure off of the conversation, like indoor rock climbing. Plus, you get a nice view of her backside.

This is where we reach the first "check point." Here, I decide which category my date falls into: a) want to get to know her better , b) hit it and quit it , or c) OMG get me the hell away from this person .

If they fall into category a --> proceed to dinner where we can talk and continue to have a good time.

if they fall into category b ---> proceed to nearest brewery to eat and get her hammered.

if they fall into category c ---> re-evaluate for category b, if she doesn't qualify then drop her the hell off abruptly and fake like it's late and I have to work early tomorrow.

Cougs, sometimes the strategy is to SLOW PLAY the hell out of a good date and then call you when you don't think you're gonna get the call. Then, when you do get the call, its like taking candy from a baby.

Daisy, that is an awesome idea. Sign me up.

When I get even a whiff that someone is using "strategy" on me I shut down and am totally disinterested. Disinterest from a guy doesn't make me more interested. On the flip side, interest from someone I have never noticed can actually make me very interested.

Unless, you know, they're really short.

Hmm, best first date I had was super cheesy but perfect and I don't think it could be pulled off again. So I need to be more creative.

If I was planning it, (P.S. I'm so not creative) I'd probably want to do something fun and happy like mini-golf. Nothing too grown-up. I've done the cooking date and it was fun but a little serious for my tastes. Movies are awkward for a first date. Dinner also is like stereotypical. But something fun and childish gives you lots of time to talk but not in such a formal setting.

I'm sure there are much more fun dates that I'm just not creative enough to develop though. That's the boy's job anyway.

P.S. This feels like such a brofest right now that I'm intruding on. I'll leave you kids alone if that's what you'd rather have.

I'm an idiot and previously said my bf didn't take me on a date before we were official... he took me on a Vegas weekend-long formal. That's a pretty big date to forget about.
